1 out of 5 eggsNever really got to use it

Pros: Nice compact design, bright display and functional keyboard.

Cons: The battery would not take a recharge on the 2nd day of use so it went back in the box and back to Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Simple to use, nice looking, great screen quality, battery life is ridiculously long, and touchpad is very durable.

Cons: Hinges seem like they could wear down from heavy use, but only time will tell for sure, they seem to be very tough at this point.

Other Thoughts: A Great Buy, more expensive than most netbooks, but also gives you 7-11 hours per charge on the battery, which is more than double what most give you.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: I bought this netbook to have on the go access to the web, and do some work in cafes between classes. This netbook does exactly that and is very power efficient. I am usually able to get around 8-9 hours of battery life with wifi on the whole time. If you're realistic about what you want it to do and understand what it was designed to do, you will love this machine. I'm curious to try 7 on it but I only really do school work so it isn't a big deal.

Cons: Because it is designed for power efficiency and not raw processing power, it doesn't do video playback or other cpu intensive (flash) things very well. Enabling DXVA helps a little, but I have yet to enable it to work successfully on mine consistently.

Other Thoughts: You CAN upgrade to 2GB ram without losing the overclocking option. The reason that Asus disabled overclocking was because they were afraid of people damaging their machines through careless upgrades / setting tweaks. There is a list on the web of compatible 2GB sticks which are certified and will let you overclock. There is also another method of tricking your computer into thinking that your ram stick is one of those "Certified" models. Of course, you do so at your own risk as people have had mixed results. I have managed to use 2GB in mine successfully without losing the SHE option. I think that most people will find that upgrading to 2GB and losing the OC will still yield a smoother experience than running 1GB with the 1.7ghz OC. Also, finger print magnet. Buy the white one if you hate seeing finger prints like I do.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good, not perfect

Pros: 11.6" is significantly better than 10". Don't even think of getting a 10" one.
Overclocking gives it a needed power boost.
Battery lasts about 6-8 hours of actually using the netbook. It's not 11 as advertised but it's plenty.
Good touchpad.
Decent keyboard.
Comes with a carrying thingy just the right size.
Lightweight power adapter.

Cons: Shift key is too small.
Weakass speakers.
Viewing angles are bad, like all netbooks.
If you add ram to get 2GB, the overclocking is disabled. Asus should have solved this by now but they didn't. Perhaps a future bios update will fix this amateuristic problem Asus made. There are some 2gb sticks out there that do keep the OC. Google it.
The processor is quite weak... When it's not overclocked to the max 1.75Ghz the lag is noticeable.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps the best 11.6" netbook for a reasonable price. I'm sure newer products will come out in the following months that will be much better, but for now it's probably the best you can get in this price range.

5 out of 5 eggsLet's get this straight: You are paying for the battery

Pros: Eternal battery life. Higher resolution than typical netbooks. Nice keyboard.

Cons: None, if you know what this thing is for.

Other Thoughts: The Atom Z520 is a technological marvel. It is incredibly efficient. If you want a computer for word processing and spreadsheets on trans-Pacific flights, then this is the one to buy. If you want to watch standard definition DVD rips on a coast-to-coast flight and have plenty of battery left when you land, then you want this machine. If you want to play games or watch 1080p video or do heavy multitasking, try the Acer 1810.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Light, quick for word, excel, most web based work. Can watch movies, play music.

Unbelievable battery life - I use this netbook all day and only charge it at night, last me the whole day at work.

Runs programming scripts with moderate ease, holds pictures easy.

Cons: Touchpad can be annoying.

Stutters on some heavy flash/java based websites.

If you dont like fingerprints like me due to OCD then you will have a problem!

Got a BSOD on mine after a few weeks of use due to page file corruption in WinXP, had to take out HD, back up data, reinstall HD and then used the nifty recovery tool (which was a plus).

Other Thoughts: Great for people on the go all the time. Does everything it should do.

Uninstall some of the useless apps for more speed. If you unplug the laptop and wish to use it for more intensive purposes don't forget to switch it to power mode.

This is my 3rd EeePC I have purchased, buying 3 more for my parents and missus. The refinement of the Asus Netbooks are just getting better and better.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall and Useful

Pros: -Battery life (8 hours)
-Keyboard size is just right
-Touch pad is very accurate
-Speaker sound isn't too bad considering how tiny the speakers are
-hard disk comes in 2 separate partitions (1 with XP, 1 empty in NTFS)
-Runs Windows 7 Pro perfectly
-Low heat output
-Software integrated overclocking (30%) provided by Asus
-easy RAM access
-very high quality LCD screen, bright and high contrast (good blacks)

Cons: -YouTube HD playback choppy
-GMA 500 isn't capable of even the oldest 3d games (barely plays HL1)
-glossy screen is no good outside or in sunlight
-a bit tough to take apart

Other Thoughts: I got this computer at the beginning of the semester so that I could bring it to class and take notes with it. It will easily last a day's worth of work with no charging. I got Windows 7 Pro through my university's MSDNAA and the z520 with 1gb RAM runs it just fine. I could do with some more RAM though. Windows 7 runs flash better than XP on this machine. Also, the GMA 500 drivers for Vista/7 are much better than XP's. The Vista/7 drivers offer better flash performance mainly it seems. Aero isn't very practical, but it will still work fairly smoothly. They computer will easily play 720p video files and 1080p does alright except when there is a lot of motion. It boots an resumes pretty quickly. Windows 7 goes into sleep very quickly and resumes just as fast.

This computer will do pretty much everything except games and heavy multitasking. It is perfect for a student or traveling business professional

4 out of 5 eggsFirst netbook

Pros: - Great battery life
- Comes with a case
- Comes with a cloth for cleaning the screen and case
- Faster than I expected
- Asus restore disc lets you pick and choose what you want to install
- Easy-to-use BlueTooth syncing with my cellphone

Cons: - No SSD (all netbooks should have SSDs)
- Seems like its covered in fingerprints within seconds of cleaning it
- Heavier than I would've liked
- Screen doesn't open as far as I'd like at times

Other Thoughts: One of my jobs is as a computer salesman so I've sold many netbooks over the last year or two. This is the first netbook I've owned though. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. None of the cons I listed above really bug me that much.

After first making sure it was working correctly, I installed XP Pro on it. The restore disc that comes with it made it really easy to install just the drivers and few Asus programs that I wanted back on the machine. I use this primarily at work on a domain with Office 2003. I don't even bring my AC adapter with me, the battery lasts all day.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick little thing

Pros: *Long Battery Life (It usually has around 8+ hours on a nearly full charge)
*Slim (Kinda top heavy)
*Very Portable (Need a portable case to go with it)
*Amazingly small AC adapter (Friends love it)
*Great for e-mailing, word processing, flash games, and web browsing (Can't think of anything else)
*Wireless internet works flawlessly

Cons: The seashell design is kinda top heavy. I'm afraid that if I accidentally bump the screen it will tip over. Don't let this discourage you, I am careful enough that it hasn't happened yet.
You need to buy an external DVD drive. This is the one I bought: Item#: N82E16827135194
You aren't buying this already.
Be sure to plug in your Eee when watching movies. Otherwise be prepared for terrible playback quality and a depleted battery.

Other Thoughts: I bought a case through Newegg and came up lucky. Item #: N82E16834987007
The AC adapter, Asus DVD Drive, and USB cable all fit snuggly into this case. The eee pc is slightly smaller, but it doesn't move around enough to have any concern.

4 out of 5 eggsLoose Power Cable Problem Fixed

Pros: I bought this just over a month ago and am generally very happy with it. My biggest worry was that the power cable would pop in and out as people were saying. Thankfully Asus fixed this problem and now after a little breaking in it inserts and removes only when you want it to.

I can literally charge this once every few days if I'm only using it a few hours a day.

Works great for Office 2007 powerpoint, excel, and word. Perfect school computer.

Cons: 1 The netbook needs to be white or matte. The fingerprints are gross.
2 It's underpowered for watching youtube videos, hulu, and "flash video sites", and even when you download flv's to your desktop the computer has trouble even in "super performance mode"
3 The battery lasts through 8 hours of constant use in XP, 6 hours in Ubuntu and less in win7. Not 10.5 as advertised.
4 I got a sticky enter key when it somehow caught on the up arrow key last week, but thankfully it uncaught.
5 The amazing power-saving software isn't available for linux or win7 yet.
6 It really slows down when you put a virus protector on it, so you HAVE to turn of real-time monitoring.

Other Thoughts: For all my griping though I would buy this again. I think it is the best netbook on the market currently, and I'm very happy with it. I spend my whole day at school 2x week and with this netbook I can do everything I want/need to do with total freedom.
