1 out of 5 eggsNice in principal

Pros: * Form factor

Cons: * Serious Overheating
* No support from ASUS regarding overheating
* No support from ASUS regarding licensing (sticker for windows rubbed-off)

Other Thoughts: Overall this was a horrible experience. It could have been great if ASUS were to stand behind their products (they don't)

2 out of 5 eggsCharged for the Recovery CD

Pros: Good system, but regretting some the same money choosing ASUS of the Ipad. Bad customer support.

Cons: System recovery files are on hard drive. If you have corrupt files, you MUST pay $50 for the recovery CD. Plus I had to buy an external hard drive since ASUS will not email files in order to use a USB drive.

Other Thoughts: Given that they won't offer the recovery files at no cost, this may be the reason why I go to the problem free Apple netbooks.

1 out of 5 eggsBe wary of DoA's

Pros: Very sleek and good looking, would be nice if it worked.

Cons: Arrived DoA, was packaged very poorly. Had small netbook box placed in a very large box with no packing material.

Other Thoughts: When i tried to boot netbook, it did not post and just went to a blank black screen. I tried letting it sit for hours to see if it would do anything because I had read reviews that said it took a while to do anything on the first boot. Well, no luck. Waiting for an RMA now, will update once i get replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Pwnage!

Pros: This netbook pwns other netbooks. In a pinch, I can even run Photoshop! The upgrade to 4gb memory is pretty much a necessity, and I haven't upgraded to 64-bit Win7 but that's next.

I can play Half-Life 2 engine games on low settings and watch near-full screen HULU smoothly.

Keyboard is very comfortable for me, but I also don't have large hands.

I actually like the touchpad. The little bumps don't bother me, and the surface makes accuracy better and reduce stickyness.

Awesome screen. I got this model for the resolution and ION graphics, and wasn't disappointed!

Cons: People have mentioned the Fn key being only on the lower left side of the keyboard, making hotkeyed volume adjustments a two-handed operation. Minor annoyance.

The unit is also a little heavier than I thought it would be, but that's what I get for a 12" screen.

Didn't come with a Windows install disc, instead just a piece of paper stating that they were saving the environment.

Battery life = 4hrs avg. I knew this going in, but it can be a major issue for those who need more. I plug mine in whenever possible, and pack the cords at all times.

I wish it had ExpressGate. While I haven't used the feature before, it sounds very handy. Thankfully, Win7 is very fast to start up. I actually usually keep the machine in Hibernate for even quicker internet access.

Other Thoughts: This thing runs HOT when doing any video-intensive processes. I got a lapdesk with USB-powered fans, which helps a little. Time will tell if the heat causes a shorter hardware lifespan.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little toy...!!!

Pros: Beutiful little toy, perfect size. Well, do not expect high end performance but for the $$$ there is nothing else I would buy. Graphics are terrific, does Photoshop just fine. I wanted a portable light weight machine but the 10 inch ones were too small and win 7 starter is useless. I even looked at the Ipad (did not convince me, I needed a work and play machine). Then researched all 12 inch laptops and liked this one the best for its looks, performance and reputation (I have built PCs all my life with nothing but Asus MBs). I did not go wrong with my choice, just as expected and having fun with it...

Cons: It will take sometime to take out all the bloatware, uninstalling office suite trial took for ever. Yes the touch pad could be better, very sensitive and can get in the way. Battery life could be better, 3-4 hrs depending on tasks. Charger seems cheap. Other than this a great machine in my book.

Other Thoughts: Will upgrade to 4 gigs of ram soon, already ordered, it should speedup the machine by about 30%, higher if running win 7 64 which I will upgrade to soon.

3 out of 5 eggsNot exactly what I needed.

Pros: Great form factor.

Cons: Runs very hot.
Has issues playing video when set to 1080P when hooked to my TV.
Has issues playing video from Hulu.

Other Thoughts: Decent little machine that turned out to be something other than I was hoping for. The only problem is there isn't anything available exactly like what I want, but I thought this might be closer.

Also, I had to RMA this to Asus as there was an issue with the LCD upon arrival. Very annoying to get a brand new product and have to pay $15 to ship it back right away.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are experiencing with this netbook. Some things that you can do to help resolve the issue with playing HD, are making sure you are using Flash 10.1, you have updated Java, and that you are using the most recent Ion graphics drivers. If you have further issues, please contact us at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0606.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsVery solid build, but maybe over heat problem

Pros: It's light weight, 12 inches screen and thin. It has Ion and Atom 330 in it. It plays 1080P youtube smooth like silk but you have to remove garbage software that come alone with it.

If you are a software engineer like me, you can really do something great on this machine. CUDA is awsome on ION! You can do massive parallel programming on it.

Cons: Heat, heat, heat.... This netbook is hot, unfortunately I mean it literately. I have measured the CPU temp and it is around 59 - 65'C for a normal usage and 65 - 75'C for a heavy duty usage in a room temperature. I checked with INTEL, the up limit temp of ATOM 330 is 85'C. The temp here is in celcius instead of farenheight. So I don't know how is this gonna to affect the life expense on the processor. ASUS Engineers did a terrible job on the heat sink design, they used a copper conduct instead of heat pipes in this space limited machine with an aim of bringing down the total cost.

Other Thoughts: If you are a programmer and have to program in parallel on a CUDA platform, this machine is the most portable way to go. Otherwise you have to consider something like GeForce 330m.

If ASUS could have used ATOM 550 instead of ATOM 330, I would say this netbook could have gone to a whole new stage.

3 out of 5 eggsPotential owner

Pros: Like the N330 with memory and graphics-best in class

Cons: worried about thermal impact to reliability

Other Thoughts: Could someone comment on the thermal performance of this netbook? I read all the reviews and there are a lot of comments about how hot it runs with the N330. Do you thing this will affect the life of the processor?? The HP 12 inch also looks good but has the single core. Help?

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Netbook

Pros: With this being my first NetBook purchase I have been more than pleased.

I did quite a bit of research before I made my decision, but what really made me confirm with this machine was the N330. Something about having a dual core chip in a NetBook was geekishly exciting.

So far what this thing has been able to handle has been very impressive. The HDMI out has been very nice to have, at 720p the resolution from the book to my t.v. has been very crisp.

I also have not seen a problem with running Windows Home Edition, which was also a selling point over the Starter Edition.

Cons: There are only a couple of cons I can really point out ..
I absolutely disagree with these black gloss finish designs that seem to be so trendy. For this machine, around the screen area.

The track pad absolutely sucks, do yourself a favor and purchase a wireless mouse .. or even wired for that matter as a replacement.

On a personal level I wanted to see with some of my utilities and tools if it would be up to the task .. with seeing some usage spikes on the RAM side from this I will probably be increasing to four gigs. Again if your just using the machine for its intended purposes .. you should never have a problem with performance.

Other Thoughts: Asus makes great products hands down.
