2 out of 5 eggsThese models just had too many issues

Pros: ...

Cons: - a lot of hardware issues needed to be exchanged
- cheap construction
- too pricey
- very slow netbook

Other Thoughts: I love Asus (buy there monitors, boards and products) but these netbooks were not good.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Mad Max The Hammer,

Thank for your review. I am sorry the netbook was not what you were looking for in a device.

I am not sure if you exchanged the netbook for the same device; but if you did, and you are having the same issues as before, I might be able to help.

You can get in contact with me through my email at I look forward to your response.

3 out of 5 eggsYou Get What You Pay For

Pros: - Cheap
- Does what I need it to do without problems: play music/videos, internet, word processing, light video games, etc.
- Light and portable

Cons: Firstly, let me say that the people who calculated the warranty on this thing sure did a good job. My video cable gave out (from repetitive stress of opening/closing the lid I suppose) literally days after the warranty expired.

- Display brightness is lacking. Basically useless outdoors.
- Susceptible to overheating, even when on hard surfaces. Not hot enough to cause shutdown, but enough to slow the netbook down often.
- Weird sizing for the up and down directional buttons. They're so small...

Other Thoughts: Comes with Windows 7 Starter. My advice would be to switch it out for any other OS as soon as possible.

For the price, I'm pretty satisfied with the netbook. If the video cable hadn't given in, I probably would've rated it 4-5 eggs.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow/Power Issues

Pros: Cheap

Cons: If you take a chance and buy this, make sure to upgrade the RAM at the same time. 1GB don't do it. Max is 2GB, get that. Just over 6 months and the battery and/or charger is dead. Won't take a charge and won't run with just the adapter. ASUS support is so/so, they are doing an RMA so we'll see.

Other Thoughts: Spend a little more money and get something nicer.

2 out of 5 eggsA nice netbook but sadly defective

Pros: Compact. Portable, and well made. Nice texture on the plastic. Good screen quality.

Cons: Defective battery or charging circuit, had to return the laptop.

Other Thoughts: I am saddened to see Asus quality drop. I bought this for a customer after saying the praises of Asus quality and then seeing it be defective. Dissapointed, but it wont stop me from buying Asus products in the future. 1 dud does not mean an entire company is bad.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook and Gift

Pros: Sturdy exterior build, lightweight with good battery life. Minimal bloatware loaded. Very small power brick. The exterior doesn't holds smudges and fingerprints like many other glossy or matte finishes.

Cons: Keyboard is a little flimsy and a few pieces of software that most people will probably remove.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as a gift for my mother for Christmas when Newegg had it on sale for $199 and you can't beat that price for a "good" netbook.

Netbooks are netbooks so don't expect it to be nearly as powerful as a "real" notebook. Asus makes good products and this is no exception. This is what I consider a baseline netbook and anything above this is mostly bells & whistles or you're paying for extra durability.

4 out of 5 eggsGood little netbook

Pros: ASUS has always been good to me. Cheap Netbook and largeharddrive, room to upgrade ram.

Cons: Same as anyother laptop/netbook
CRAPWARE. so much of this crud i don't need
please just make one with the default os and a ASUS updater for the needed ASUS drivers for HARDWARE ONLY!

Other Thoughts: Got this for my Little sister, it has helped her in school and ensured that she would stay off my comp (the things she could have seen lol)

2 out of 5 eggsFeels cheap

Pros: A pure net book

Cons: Keyboard feels like it would break if your not gentle. The mouse buttons is a signal sea saw button for right and left click and requires too much force to press. Some bloatware to deal with out of the box.

Other Thoughts: I would probably go with a different brand if i were to get another netbook.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well enough, BUT...misleading label

Pros: Quiet netbook, fan doesn't spin much during power on and the body still feels cool near the CPU even when under load for a while. Atom N450 registered ~55C temp for Tjunction (Intel ARK puts Tjmax at 100C) and 75C on the core diode. Handles internet browsing fairly well using Firefox 4b8. Battery life is decent for a 3-cell. Works pretty well as an eReader with the hotkey controls.

Cons: There's some keyboard flex since it's a rather lean keyboard tray, not really noticeable unless you're someone who pecks keys hard.

Stutters on HD video. Contrary to Newegg's description, this netbook does NOT have the GMA 500 Poulsbo. The one I received uses the GMA 3150. This was a consideration to get a GPU that could handle HD video processing but I feel quite disappointed that the site mislabeled the product, and this made all the difference in giving 3 eggs instead of 5.

The only mini PCI-E card in this netbook is being used by the 11n wireless adapter, which makes installation of a Crystal HD card without losing wireless impossible unless you're willing to work with a USB adapter.

Other Thoughts: Got this as a Christmas present for someone. They're happy with it but I'm rather disappointed about the mislabeling. People also need to understand this netbook is NOT built for speed, but to just be able to do basic browsing and office productivity work. Don't buy this thinking you're going to be gaming or doing video manipulation.

5 out of 5 eggsNice !

Pros: Small, great design, good screen, windows 7 starter. Same specs as any other netbook.

Cons: the keyboard looks a bit cheap, but it doesnt really matter.

Other Thoughts: Bought mine on the blackfriday, it was a real deal !
Its a great netbook after you've removed all the bloatware they pre-install on it.
