4 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: *Easy update to ICS.
*Easy to Root and Install ROMS
*Optional Keyboard is great, though the touch pad can be finicky at times.
*Pretty durable, despite sounding very squeaky. Held up through two long trips and bringing it to school everyday. I did manage to make a small crack on the back though.
*High quality screen. Low resolution, but you wouldn't know by looking at it (unless you look for pixels)
*Excellent battery life. (16+ hours with dock)
*Lightweight (2.8 pounds with dock)
*Very fast on the 4.4 KatKiss ROM. Began to bog down on ICS though.

*Great for watching Netflix, emails, Facebook, notes, etc

Cons: *Sides squeak, just as other's have commented
*Quiet speakers, not high quality, but not terrible either. Just not very loud.
*Screen Glare. Don't even think about using this tablet outside. Even being directly underneath bright lights can be an annoyance.
*Slow down on Android 3.2 and 4.0. Requires flashing 4.4 ROM to speed it up again

Other Thoughts: I have owned this tablet (with the dock) for two years and have been overall very satisfied. I bought it used for about $250 (with dock) and for that price, I can't really complain. It is NOT worth $480 though. If you can find it for $300 or less and know to install ROM's, then this is a great tablet.

If you are looking for a light duty, light weight laptop, and you don't need Microsoft Office (there are many alternatives, I use OfficeSuite on Androud), then this could be a great little laptop/tablet.

Please note that these experiences are based primarily on my experience with the device running Android 4.4 which I flashed onto the device.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the worse, but not recommended

Pros: It mostly lasted me through a couple of semesters, which made note-taking a much more convenient task.

Cons: I bought this back on 8/21/2011. Since that time it's convinced me to not buy another Asus tablet. The left side (where the buttons are located) feels "squishy", for lack of a better word, which makes holding it awkward. The left speaker is lower than the right. The tablet sometimes gets confused regarding its battery charge, and may insist that it has no charge even after having been plugged into the wall for hours at a time. The tablet may become confused upon connecting to or disconnecting from the optional keyboard. Things become SUPER frustrating when you spend the money on the keyboard, which becomes useless as a keyboard due to certain keys permanently failing to work (both numbers and letters).

Other Thoughts: This tablet was really good for the first 4 months, then became less useful during the 2nd semester and it went down hill from there. It does "okay" as a casual tablet, but I would never recommend the Asus line over something else.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS Transformer

Pros: Interface design, size, weight.

Cons: ASUS Tech Support is horrendous and they will not automatically update your device, rendering it virtually useless. PLEASE SPEND YOUR MONEY CAUTIOUSLY.
Knowing what I know now, I would have never bought this piece of junk.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for your experience with our customer support. Unfortunately, they cannot send updates to your tablet for you. The unit should be able to locate and automatically download any firmware updates for you on. If it cannot, for whatever reason, you can manually update from our support site.

What firmware version are you currently on or what version are you trying to get to. Please feel free to e-mail me at and I’ll be more than happy to walk you through the manual firmware update steps.

Best Regards,

ASUS Customer Loyalty

Pros: Asus continues to support their products with updates, keeps making a great product better. Does everything i expected and more.

Cons: I wish that there were more tablet specific apps that used the screen size better. Random hang ups

5 out of 5 eggsTransformer has replaced my laptop

Pros: Great product. long battery life (esp with dock). HDMI output. mini SD card input on tablet, 2 USBs and full SD on dock. ASUS keeps up with updates well. Love the changes asus made to honeycomb (specifically the back, home, window buttons).

Cons: no flash on camera, but still takes decent outdoor photos. screen sometimes messes up when I plug in the HDMI output, not sure why but I think it may be a browser issue.

Other Thoughts: My first Android and first tablet. Got my transformer in august after much research. Decided on the transformer because of the available dock since I was pretty much replacing my laptop. Have not regretted the decision at any time! The dock is a must have or transformer is not much different than other tablets. Also getting a capacitive stylus is not a bad idea (esp if using supernote app). Will most likely continue with ASUS transformer series in the future. TF101 is still a great product even with the Prime released.

5 out of 5 eggsGood job Asus

Pros: I received mine as a gift in Oct via another retailer and wanted to put it through the tests of life before I wrote a review. It is my first tablet but I've played with my daughters "ipd" that doesn't come close to this. Asus did a great job of including the USB ports and memory card options (via keyboard). I love honeycomb and can't wait for ICS. I really appreciate the office suite that comes with this tablet as well. Again, Great job.
I've used it to speak from in conferences and taught from it in class. I've presented flash video (Prezi) and ran other video formats through our 'smart classroom' tech here at my university. I have a free FTP app, Kindle app, and a file browser app. linked with the office suite that it came with - I can't ask for more. This thing puts the 'ipd' to shame.

Cons: Transformer prime came out too soon after I received my transformer. (Ok mine was a gift so i'm really not annoyed!) The keyboard dock keys are poorly designed. I'm a good typist but this keyboard makes me feel like a goof a third of the time. In spite of that, this Dock adds a ton of battery life and other great options that counter the poor key responses.

Other Thoughts: I'm an avid computer user. This has been put through the tests. Tablets are not laptop replacements but this one comes very close!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great shipping. Great product. I'm not a computer guru and I am new to android technology. This tablet is extremely user friendly. I am impressed with the video quality and speed of both the internet and the tablet itself. The keyboard is a must for an old-time speed typer. It has a good key response and feels nice and solid. Some people have complained of weight after reading for a while. If you have the cover that folds over to prop up the tab, then it removes that issue. If I get sick of holding it (like some of my bigger hardback books) I just set it up by the cover. The screen is just big enough to enjoy the android games and the sound is excellent for a small device. I'm very happy with my Transformer.

Cons: The only con I can come up with is the lack of my user knowledge on some things. No fault of the tablet!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet

Pros: - If you use the keyboard also it provides a built in case when you close it

- Some people don't like the plastic texture, I love it, it provides good gripping for holding

- Frequent Firmware updates

- Nice Screen

- Good Stability

- No problems with Andriod or Other Markets

- Strong Wi-Fi Connectivity

- Fast and smooth operation

- Had been confirmed it will get an OS update to Andriod 4.0 AKA Ice Cream Sandwich (rumored by end of year)

- Long battery life once you get the updates and especially if you get the dock

- Been out long enough to get the kinks out, but not so long it's worthless

- Netflix can be downloaded from the Andriod Market

- NewEgg is great seller

Cons: - Could be a little smaller and lighter, but nothing overwelming, even with the keyboard only 3 pounds appox

- No flash on camera, but how many of us take too many pics with a tablet, pictures do come out passable

- Stock browser often tries to lock you into 'Mobile Views' which is a shame since a nice big screen. Though a download of the Dolhpin broswer) and perhaps others) will alleviate this easily

- Light bleed around at the edge of the screen

Other Thoughts: Yes there the Transformer Prime (AKA Transformer 2) is coming out, but this model is time tested and cheaper.

I would of given it 4.5 Eggs, but not given that choice. Still recommended.
