1 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable degradation in performance

Pros: specs, aesthetics, initial performance, battery life, display

Cons: updates stopped at about 12 months on market, performance has deteriorated over time to the degree its now just a relatively high quality E-reader. Close to useless otherwise...the lag time from input to display has to be seen to be believed - can be upto 30 seconds for a simple key stroke!

Other Thoughts: Hard to believe Asus walked away from this. Don't want to hear about upgrading to CR or other means of getting Kitkat...its widely known that the memory is very low quality. Asus should be all over fixing this.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for liking the specification, aesthetics, performance, battery life and display on the tablet. I apologize if you started experiencing slow system performance and stability related issue with the tablet. Please try to do a hardware reset to resolve the stability issue and install the most current system update. Also, please verify that third-party applications being installed have the most current update and are fully-Android compliant to avoid conflict that may cause stability problem. 2 out of 5 eggsBattery/Durability below par

Pros: Great specs for it's time

Cons: In less than one year the glass has started to separate on the front. Initially battery life on stock firmware was dismal.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this tablet a little over a year ago because of the nice slim form factor and Tegra 3 processor. Within the first week I noticed that the claimed battery life was nowhere near reality. I would have to charge the device every night whether I used it that day or not. After a couple months had passed I decided to void the warranty and unlock/root it and install a custom ROM. After installing CM11 the battery life went up to what I was expecting and it has worked well ever since. It can go a few days with light use without needing a charge.

As for the durability. I initially liked this device because of it's sleek iPad like looks, and it does have a good feel in the hand, but about 6 months in I noticed a bit of separation of the glass screen from the body. Now, with careful treatment it has not separated much more, but is still continuing to develop a slight gap along the top edge near the power button. I need to point out I use this device VERY lightly. With that sort of wear in such a short amount of time given my very light and careful use I would wonder how it would fair under more normal/rigorous circumstances.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDecent product, horrible customer service

Pros: Sound product, decent OS, good graphical display - the reason I bought it was the display size, and I am not disappointed in its performance. Memory is good and a SD slot makes storage of videos and large data files very easy.

Cons: Not much negative to say about the unit. See "Other thoughts" below, though, for the frustration ASUS caused me on two occasions for the same problem.

Other Thoughts: 3k characters isn't enough to share how frustrated ASUS makes me. As long as the product works, you're fine...but do NOT EVER have a problem requiring service on your tablet (outside warranty, that is)!

For me, the tab that holds the dock in place broke off within a month. I returned the unit for service, and the service was AWFUL. I exchanged more than 5 chat sessions and 7 emails trying to get repair status. When I finally got a reply, it was essentially to tell me, "You broke it and you'll have to pay for the repair, and by the way, pay us in 4 days or we return they unit unrepaired." The clock started when they sent me the message (at like 1AM), and a day later when I got the message, I had lost a day... And since it was a weekend, my questions about how they arrived at their repair decision wouldn't even be read until near the end of the "pay-or-else" period they gave me. During some hastily initiated chat sessions, the "techs" I chatted with essentially wanted me to accept that they couldn't help and the the unit would be held until they finished talking to me. I was "graciously" (after my strong complaints and two "escalations") given a 2-day extension...but they never answered my questions about how it broke on first use.

They though they claimed it was fixed when they returned it, it broke immediately again the first time I re-docked it. Maybe it was fixed, maybe it wasn't. Foolishly, I didn't look REALLY CLOSELY to verify it. Equally foolish, I didn't return it right away for re-repair. I just "dealt with it" for the next 8 months or so, until I got fed up again. Did I get better treatment the second time? No.

Treatment this time was worse because during the 8 months between repair efforts, I unlocked the unit in order to install some custom ROMs. ASUS's *internal* policy is to only return units in factory-like condition, and there is NO room for any other repair approach. So, despite the fact that my motherboard is perfectly functional, their "procedure" requires them to flash it before returning it, without even TRYING to see if it boots... But they must have gotten it to SOME state, since they knew it was unlocked. So, not only did I get the never-ending parade of ill-informed and borderline rude chat "techs", three "extensions", and a phone call to their "service" line, my tablet was more or less held hostage to a repair policy that does not serve my needs or wants.

What a waste of my money to replace a functioning part AND a waste of materials on their part...hardly friendly to the environment. And the entire time, every conversation with ASUS revolved around their policy rather than whether the tablet boots or not.

The solution for ASUS is as simple as this... For out-of-warranty repairs, allow customers to repair what THEY want, and if the requested/authorized repairs are inadequate in ASUS's opinion, have the customer acknowledge the potential of getting back a non-working unit. Simple as that.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsPray yours never need repairs.

Pros: Really nice display.
Easily moddable.

Cons: Terrible repair process.

Other Thoughts: I have always used Asus products, every computer I have built for myself, and my friends has an Asus motherboard in it. I always recommend their products, but now after this experience I will never buy an Asus product again. I am going to start by saying that the tablet itself is actually pretty good, but pray you never need to have it repaired. First off my tablet was outside its warranty so I had to pay for the repairs. I don't have a problem with that but then they tell me the repairs cost almost $200. Thats about half the price of the newest gen of this model just to give you a little perspective. Next after the normal turn around I get my tablet back I am all happy; except they botched the repairs. This makes me slightly irritated, because I use my tablet while I am at school. I have the keyboard attachment so I can take notes and it has all my books on it. I contact customer support and they go through the normal technical support stuff to try and fix it. After they finally agree with me that it is there fault and not mine they tell me they can't create a RMA ticket because they're updating their system. They want me to contact them again when its back up. Thats a bit ridiculous by anyones standards (This is the second time there RMA system has been down when I contacted them). Today I finally don't have work or school so I contact them again. Naturally I have to go through all the same questions I went through before, making me more and more frustrated. Finally they decide I can RMA it, but even after I tell them I need it for school, they are only going to pay for standard shipping. They say they will try and expedite the actual repairs but that really only accounts for 3 days out of the 14 day turn-around. Asus used to have the best customer support but they just don't care anymore. Unfortunately this makes it so I don't care to buy their products anymore.

1 out of 5 eggsPeace of Junk! Do Not Buy! NO MORE ASUS!

Pros: Screen resolution

Cons: Lots of problems
Very expensive for a product with a plethora of issues

Other Thoughts: I'm so disappointed with this product. I bought the tablet together with the dock, paying a total of $550. Here are the problems I have:
• The tablet restarts randomly out of the blue (no matter if I’m using it or if it’s on standby) and crashes. I did a couple of factory resets but the problems were not solved. Lately the random restarts and crashes became so frequent that I decided to give up on using it
• The internet browsing is very slow and kind a jerky/choppy
• GPS sucks! Really, it sucks big time! Not reliable at all! It used to take normally more than 10 min (even 15-20 min) to lock on GPS satellites, even outdoor and standing. Then, out of the blue, it loses the signal.
• Very picky charger (gosh, now I hate the fact that I didn't get a tablet with a standard microUSB connector). The USB charging (from the PC) it didn’t always work initially and now it doesn't work at all. Then again, the car charging was working initially, and then it didn't work at all. Eventually I noticed that even with the original charger the keyboard doesn’t want to charge at all sometimes. That's irking me a lot!
I even bought a brand new cable and the tablet still doesn’t charge at all from time to time.
Then there is a quality issue with the USB plug: the plug’s jacket cover came out completely of the metallic part (and this only after 6 month of use, with no more than 4-5/months). Now, although I push the jacket back, it keeps coming out time every time I pull the connector out from the adapter or PC's USB port. Anyhow, I ordered a replacement cable from DX and I hope will solve the problem.
• As well, the battery charging status (the system one or the one showed by different apps/widgets) is not reliable at all – it stays at 100% for a long time, then is starts going down to 40-50% very fast, an then the tablet shuts down and need a full recharge.
• The keyboard dock, although appeared to work initially, turned out eventually to be affected by the fast battery drain problem; after about 7 months stopped completely to charge and work and I ended up in the garbage.
Well, this is my fourth ASUS product with a lot of issues. Firstly it was a WiFi USB stick, secondly I had major problems with a motherboard, then with a graphic card (plus it took ASUS more than 1 month to send me back the repaired card) and now this tablet. Well, wrapping it up, I'm pretty sure: NO MORE ASUS for me from now on (and not only because what happen to me, but as well because I read so many bad reviews about the Asus' quality issues and its bad support; reading the bad reviews about the quality issues and service problems for the TF701t make me think that ASUS it’s going somehow downhill).
Another consequence of what I’ve been through is that I will never ever buy tablets or smartphones with proprietary connectors. So all the

3 out of 5 eggsnot a fast tablet

Pros: very nice design

Cons: Became slow after installing applications. I really do not know if there is incompatibility with some of them, but I hate how slow it became. After eliminating many apps it became acceptable again.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: no

Cons: Both cameras are dead after last firmware update...downgrade firmware didn't give any results...Chat with support did not give the desired result, is to clear the cache ... the device simply does not see the camera (xFFFFFFFFFF)

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT EVEN CONSIDER BUYING THIS!!

Pros: HD screen, detachable dock

Cons: LAG, LAG, LAG, and more LAG! Often times the tablet won't even come out of sleep because it has randomly decided to turn itself off. After losing the tablet with slows down a lot. Finding a charger in case you left yours at home is practically impossible because it has a 15watt charger rather than the more common 12watt. I get force closes a lot, especially Asus' own pre-installed apps. I've sent it in 3 times and had them replace it once and every time, same results they do not offer any refunds so I'm stuck with this piece of garbage for a while.

1 out of 5 eggsIssues

Pros: None so far

Cons: Laggy

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing after reading all the reviews stating that it was comparable to an iPad. I'm not sold on the Apple movement and opted for an Android tablet instead. I have had nothing but problems with it. Beginning with it being laggy since day one, no easy option to switch between users, and now that I'm gone my wife is saying that it won't even turn on after fully charged. If I can't get this thing to run smoothly after I return home I will consider returning it and giving Apple a second look.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

If I may, I would like to help. Please send me an email including reference number 4578544 in the subject line along with the serial number of the tablet, and I will be happy to help. My email is cl-mark@asus.com.
