1 out of 5 eggsPeace of Junk! Do Not Buy! NO MORE ASUS!

Pros: Screen resolution

Cons: Lots of problems
Very expensive for a product with a plethora of issues

Other Thoughts: I'm so disappointed with this product. I bought the tablet together with the dock, paying a total of $550. Here are the problems I have:
• The tablet restarts randomly out of the blue (no matter if I’m using it or if it’s on standby) and crashes. I did a couple of factory resets but the problems were not solved. Lately the random restarts and crashes became so frequent that I decided to give up on using it
• The internet browsing is very slow and kind a jerky/choppy
• GPS sucks! Really, it sucks big time! Not reliable at all! It used to take normally more than 10 min (even 15-20 min) to lock on GPS satellites, even outdoor and standing. Then, out of the blue, it loses the signal.
• Very picky charger (gosh, now I hate the fact that I didn't get a tablet with a standard microUSB connector). The USB charging (from the PC) it didn’t always work initially and now it doesn't work at all. Then again, the car charging was working initially, and then it didn't work at all. Eventually I noticed that even with the original charger the keyboard doesn’t want to charge at all sometimes. That's irking me a lot!
I even bought a brand new cable and the tablet still doesn’t charge at all from time to time.
Then there is a quality issue with the USB plug: the plug’s jacket cover came out completely of the metallic part (and this only after 6 month of use, with no more than 4-5/months). Now, although I push the jacket back, it keeps coming out time every time I pull the connector out from the adapter or PC's USB port. Anyhow, I ordered a replacement cable from DX and I hope will solve the problem.
• As well, the battery charging status (the system one or the one showed by different apps/widgets) is not reliable at all – it stays at 100% for a long time, then is starts going down to 40-50% very fast, an then the tablet shuts down and need a full recharge.
• The keyboard dock, although appeared to work initially, turned out eventually to be affected by the fast battery drain problem; after about 7 months stopped completely to charge and work and I ended up in the garbage.
Well, this is my fourth ASUS product with a lot of issues. Firstly it was a WiFi USB stick, secondly I had major problems with a motherboard, then with a graphic card (plus it took ASUS more than 1 month to send me back the repaired card) and now this tablet. Well, wrapping it up, I'm pretty sure: NO MORE ASUS for me from now on (and not only because what happen to me, but as well because I read so many bad reviews about the Asus' quality issues and its bad support; reading the bad reviews about the quality issues and service problems for the TF701t make me think that ASUS it’s going somehow downhill).
Another consequence of what I’ve been through is that I will never ever buy tablets or smartphones with proprietary connectors. So all the

3 out of 5 eggsnot a fast tablet

Pros: very nice design

Cons: Became slow after installing applications. I really do not know if there is incompatibility with some of them, but I hate how slow it became. After eliminating many apps it became acceptable again.

Pros: HD screen, detachable dock

Cons: LAG, LAG, LAG, and more LAG! Often times the tablet won't even come out of sleep because it has randomly decided to turn itself off. After losing the tablet with slows down a lot. Finding a charger in case you left yours at home is practically impossible because it has a 15watt charger rather than the more common 12watt. I get force closes a lot, especially Asus' own pre-installed apps. I've sent it in 3 times and had them replace it once and every time, same results they do not offer any refunds so I'm stuck with this piece of garbage for a while.

1 out of 5 eggsIssues

Pros: None so far

Cons: Laggy

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing after reading all the reviews stating that it was comparable to an iPad. I'm not sold on the Apple movement and opted for an Android tablet instead. I have had nothing but problems with it. Beginning with it being laggy since day one, no easy option to switch between users, and now that I'm gone my wife is saying that it won't even turn on after fully charged. If I can't get this thing to run smoothly after I return home I will consider returning it and giving Apple a second look.

Manufacturer Response:

If I may, I would like to help. Please send me an email including reference number 4578544 in the subject line along with the serial number of the tablet, and I will be happy to help. My email is

1 out of 5 eggsGreat specs, VERY poor performance!

Pros: Great display, text is crisp, Asus is second only to Google with updates.

Cons: Battery life is poor. Wifi drains the battery really fast. I have left this on sleep all day while at work and battery lost 30% charge. I've never seen that any mobile device, not even my iPad with Retina display. I bought it with the keyboard dock, but I'm considering returning it. The performance lags and is choppy I need something with better battery life.

Other Thoughts: For $500.00 USD, I expected better performance.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Stan,

It sounds like your battery still needs to be conditioned. To condition a battery, drain the device's battery completely to 0% without charging, and then charge the tablet to its full capacity at 100%. You would need to do this process for at least 6 cycles.

More than likely this should help with the battery issue. Please keep in mind that if you unplug or charge the device during the conditioning process, without fully draining or charging the battery, you would have to start this process over again.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about ASUS' products, please let me know by email at

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: * Display is clear and bright-even outside true 1080P
* Battery life is as advertised, great with additional dock
* Video performance rocks!
* Very thin and compact-but solid
* HDMI interface

Cons: * No delete button on the dock/keyboard?
* Slow data transfer via cable interface
* Slow boot-up

Other Thoughts: I've had many notebook computers, but this was my second tablet after a budget first 7".

My Apple using friends are amazed by the video when I run an MP4 1080P on it like Hobbit. But you have to run high resolution videos use the internal memory with the right video software--use MX, it doesn't lag and skip and will recognize & play DVD VOB files as well.

Don't bother to try and download a 16 Gig video file with the cable interface, it will take a couple days, I use the USB interface from a 2 TB movie server through the dock/keyboard or have moved via the MSD card, then to internal memory. Haven't tried wireless yet, will report. Also, haven't tried to run from the MSD card since installing MX, which works way better than the others on this platform.

Tip: Put two thicker rubber feet on the back of the keyboard and it won't lift itsself off the stock ones when you use it unfolded and slide on your lap off the seatback tray in the aircraft.

Try all the game software and make sure you enable the Tegra and GPU features as there is much difference in performance on this platform--MOBO video player wouldn't even respond to the laptop vertical/horizontal position after installed and was very jerky as was the Goggle video player at high resolution.

Just downloaded new firmware and will report back, but this does EVERYTHING I have asked except fast large file transfers---can't have it back. Too bad that several web sites force mobile app display as this baby easily handles the regular sites with ease.

4 out of 5 eggsbetter deal than ipad

Pros: responsive. user friendly. good battery. I use it mostly for playing videos and reading. Just took it on a 2 week trip to europe and it worked great! As long as you have wifi, you can run your life on this thing.

File structuring interface is great. You have the freedom to create / move / rename directories and files as u please

Apps are mostly free.

get the keyboard! improves batter life by at least 2x and gives you a USB port

Cons: occasionally freezes, but not often (like windows 95 did .. Android will correct it with time)

doesn't come with a micro hdmi cable .. srsly who has a micro one laying around?!?!

Android is slowly but surely improving. You're going to have to download multiple apps to get this thing to do what you want. For example, i went through 3 media players before i found one that actually played .mkv's with subtitles correctly. I also had to go through 2-3 file extractors / converters before i got .rars to extract correctly .. bottom line, you might need to be patient with android to get what you want, but that's hardly the fault of the tablet itself and all the apps are free

Other Thoughts: far better bang for your buck than an ipad or galaxy, especially when the keyboard attachment that can extend your battery life (which is only available via bluetooth on the competition) .. there are a few bumps so u do get what you pay for, but honestly, if you want to do anything intensive, buy a laptop

1 out of 5 eggsSlow Storage/Slow Everything

Pros: This tablet WOULD have worked remarkable well... IF they used better quality memory chips and controllers...

The display is nice...

Cons: They used poor quality memory chips/controller and because of this the whole device suffers. It is SLOW to no end, and hardly works, if it even decides to work.

It takes forever to turn on, turn off, open apps, close apps, switch between apps, wake up, unlock, take pictures, view pictures, play music, EVERYTHING ELSE!

It seriously takes sometimes between 2-5 minutes just for me to wake the thing up, open the browser, google what I need to know, then put it back to sleep.

Not only is it visibly slow, but it benchmarks a sustained Read|Write speed of 20mB/s|5mB/s, $10 USB flash drives are faster than that!

Well, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it was only 1 unit that had this problem... Well.... Its not, I am on my second one, and let me tell you, this one is WORSE than the first!

(not to mention that ASUS replaced my 2-week old tablet for a USED one, with a relabeled S/N number sticker that didn't even match the one embedded in Android)

Don't try to put any media of your own on it! Because not only will it take DAYS to load up all your music/pictures/etc, but it will also slow the thing down even more. Making it physically impossible to use.

I want nothing more than to have my money refunded, however I am stuck with this piece of garbage that is clearly FAULTY BY DESIGN. I will try my best to get a product that I am satisfied with from ASUS at the expense of my time, like the VivoTab Smart...

Top of the line tablet? Clearly not!

Other Thoughts: "replaced my 2-week old tablet for a USED one, with a relabeled S/N number sticker that didn't even match the one embedded in Android"

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The slowdown issues that you are describing are not normal. If you are still within the warranty period, I would recommend sending in the device. It is disappointing that you have to go through this negative experience. In most cases, sending in a product for warranty repair should be stress free. I am sorry that this was not the case when you sent in your tablet. Please let me know if you would like to send in your current tablet. My email is
