2 out of 5 eggsdied in less then 18 months, wouldn't recommend at this time

Pros: Great GPU. Great max specs (32 gig RAM, two drive bays)

Cons: Won't last more then 16 months, Bad driver integration, faulty mouse pad design, unhelpful tech support.

Other Thoughts: I would think that a 1k laptop would last more than 18 months. I loved this laptop when I bought it but soon had issues. Within 2 months I had to send it to ASUS for a new screen. When it was returned, the screen was not fixed and the camera flickered. The mouse pad had a mind of its own when it was plugged in. It also wouldn't wake up from standby without a hard power cycle. Now, only 16 months after purchase, less than a year after servicing from ASUS, when powered on, the only thing that happens is the power light and a short cd drive spin. ASUS's resolutions: screen issue-send it in for another one, camera issue-since it works with skype, it's not our issue, mouse pad issue-send it in for servicing, 10 lb paperweight issue-135$ estimate. Dr. Google solutions: screen issue-ASUS driver conflict they haven't fixed yet, mouse pad issue-faulty design grounding issue, make sure you're not only touching the laptop with your finger, make sure you touch it with the rest of your hand or your other hand. 10lb paperweight issue-probably a fried motherboard. I hoped a thousand dollar laptop would last more than 16 months. I would recommend the laptop of it weren't a yearly cost of a grand. I give 2 eggs instead of 1 because I liked the laptop so much when before it died. I'd spend your grand somewhere else.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsLaptops Works When it Wants to.

Pros: Other than the 5400rpm HDD it's pretty quick, gaming is great and have no complaints.

Cons: Laptop worked great for the first month and then it started having issues booting up. Whenever I try to start the laptop after it goes into standby or powered off it goes straight to the bios. Then I am forced to restart several times before it boots up correctly. I've restored the install and the same thing, worked fine for a few weeks and then the bios issues again. Asus customer service hasn't been able to help me through this. Really disappointed, but I guess it's what I get for buying refurbished. Now that I have learned my lesson, I will just skip the savings and get a new item.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Lacey,

I apologize if you started having bootup problem with the laptop after a month and customer service was not able to help you resolve the issue . Please verify if the unit is running with the most current BIOS version and all recommended WINDOWS Update were installed. If you need further technical assistance, please email me at and write down service# N141226728 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Pros: Yeah its a nice laptop. but it will die 3 months into use.

Cons: WARNING! Absolutely DO NOT BUY this piece of equipment. It is 100% defective. Just 3 months into it's use, the screen flashed white, and when I turned it off it never recovered. Now I have a useless piece of junk, what was once worth 900 dollars is now a paperweight. This issue is ABSOLUTELY COMMON! Read the other reviews AND DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE, "surely it won't happen to me". WRONG. It -WILL- happen to you, I guarantee it. DO NOT BUY!

Other Thoughts: I really wish I had not bought this. If possible always try to make your own desktop pc.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Andres,

I apologize if the laptop failed to work after 3 months of use. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. If you think the defect is factory related and need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# N141110891 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsLOVE

Pros: Price and Performance

Cons: If you're playing a game, the touch pad seems a little too far to the left, where your WASD hand is place, and sometimes you misfire. You gotta hold an FN key and press F9 to shut the touchpad off. Otherwise, NO COMPLAINTS!

Other Thoughts: Best electronic devise I've ever laid my hands on. I swore ALIENS accidentally sent me a top-of-the-line laptop, with secret technology. But realistically, you'll wanna play BF4 at 1280x720 and everything on ULTRA and it runs SUPER SMOOTH!

1 out of 5 eggsHardly Worked

Pros: Very powerful for it's price (if I didn't need to pay for a return), smaller than older ROG's, looked cool.

Cons: Screen glitches, driver compatibility issues, semi-working video card, crashed whenever put to sleep, could not change screen brightness, somewhat unresponsive touch pad.

Other Thoughts: I have been able to fix all computer problems I've had in the past and have had no luck with this computer. My graphics card runs far slower than it should--it gets a 4.1 windows score and can barley play old games on low. I have reinstalled the OS multiple times to fix this, tried downgrading to windows 7, reinstalled the drivers (both through asus and nvida), and have tried using older drivers--none worked. Additionally, I even tried flashing to an older bios but was restricted. I have spent my entire weekend on the phone with Asus support to no avail and am pretty fed up. Their customer service is pretty good however, nothing we've tried has help increase gpu performance.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Evan,

I apologize if the issues persists even after working with Customer Support in trying to resolve the isses. ASUS provides warranty for the product and I recommend sending it in for further testing. If you need further assistance sending it in for service, please email me at and write down service# N140743934 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsPractically Flawless Out Of Box. 8.1 Major Pain.

Pros: - Upgradable (RAM and extra HDD or SSD bay)
- Great screen. (1080p 17.3")
- Surprisingly responsive touch pad.
- Back lights disperse evenly across the board.
- Speakers are good.
- Keyboard feels great.

The actual machine is amazing, this said, you always run the risk of hardware failure, cosmetic damage, etc when you buy refurbished. So don't expect perfect cosmetically, but do expect a completely working machine.

Being my first refurbished purchase, I'm more than satisfied with the purchase. I was ready to see at least some chips and dents, but it's practically pristine aside from a small, chip on the corner of the machine.

You also have a 30 day ASUS warranty to replace a defective machine. I wouldn't hesitate to use if you're having real problems.

Haven't had a chance to game with it, but I assume you should be able to play any game on at least medium graphics with decent FPS. If I experience something I didn't expect, I'll update this.

Cons: First off, I'm rating this 5/5 only because the actual laptop s great. The operating system on the other hand....

Went to update all the windows updates before installing the 8.1 update, like any sane person I selected to install all necessary updates at once. Bad move. Took close to an hour to download half the files (shouldn't have been anything close to that long) then windows had an issue while installing the updates. Windows then attempted to revert back after the update failed but made no progress. After an hour I restarted the machine, reinstalled windows (took almost 3 hours) and did tried again.

I've read all the stories, how updating to 8.1 is a major pain. I blew it off having plenty of windows experience and thought it couldn't be that bad. Be warned, it is no walk in the park. Took me 2 days since opening the box to get 8.1 installed successfully.

When you get this laptop, don't check automatic windows updates when setting up windows. Do it all manually (look online for instructions, very easy). Only download updates 15-20 at a time. It'll take time, but save you the hours I spent with the laptop in limbo.

Other Thoughts: At the time, I paid $900 for the laptop, so maybe you can find a better deal. But there is nothing wrong with this one. Just be ready for a journey updating to 8.1 and DO NOT try to update all of it at once. Once you get all the necessary windows updates, the actual 8.1 update went flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth

Pros: Sturdy, excellent keyboard, responsive, powerful, expandable, upgradeable, good design and well made.

Cons: Matt case paint/coating picks up dust and oil all too well. While playing using the keyboard, the Windows Metro screen comes up often - never had that happen using my HP notebook (same size and layout).

Other Thoughts: As this is an initial review, I am still learning of the capes and lims of this system. So far it is impressive and I will be retiring a desktop and use this in it's place.

5 out of 5 eggsvery pleased with my purchase

Pros: very fast, great for playing games, arrived in perfect condition, looks brand new

Cons: windows 8 sucks ( but windows 7 laptops with good graphics cards are hard to find ) wish the graphics card was a little higher spec, but for the price, really can't complain. will easily play any 3d game decently for years to come.

Other Thoughts: was looking for a desktop replacement for an old sony laptop ( got 12 years out of the thing so I really can't complain!!) purchased this laptop for around $1000. ( now they are 899 but that's the price you pay with any technology), really can't complain about performance or the price.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty and works!

Pros: Fast
Cool design (Stays cool too!)
Big Screen

Cons: It has Windows 8

Other Thoughts: This lap top has been doing exactly what I want. I wanted to be able to play most games when away from my home desktop, it does just that. Has been used with Diablo 3 max graphics, and I'm certain it can be used for other things.

For some reason I wish the power chord was on the left or the back end though, I tend to have my mouse close to the right side and the chord doesn't get along from time to time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Desktop Replacement!

Pros: - Gaming and Photo Editing Power
- Screen (direct facing)
- Keyboard
- Cooling
- Look & Feel

The RoG series of laptops have been a favorite of mine for some time. This is the second one I have purchased and really love the machine. While my wife is the primary user of this laptop I have played some Diablo 3 & Heroes of the Storm on the machine and both run flawlessly. My older G7x machine had no issues sizing up to a 24" screen and I assume this one would not either.

While she is still adjusting to the size of the keyboard (coming from a 13" Mac) I will say the keys are very responsive and one of the better non-mechanical keyboards I have used. The backlighting is nice as well.

Overall, the computer just looks and feels tech. While some prefer the style of Alienware I have ALWAYS preferred the look of the Republic of Gamers machines since the debuted.

Cons: Size
Battery Life (3 hours, which is fine for what it is)
Side angle on screen

The battery life is what one would expect but I'll still state it as a negative as it is something to keep in mind. Looking at the screen from the side causes washout on the opposing screen side worse than either her Mac or my work laptop (Lenovo). With that said the only real negative are the speakers which I feel leave a lot to be desired. Not a major deal for most individuals I would guess who will be using headphones.

Other Thoughts: Windows 8 isn't the horror story I have heard from others. While I do prefer Vista (had a computer that could easily run it) and 7. Eight isn't horrible.

This laptop can have a SSD added later for your games. Big positive and I will be doing this when I buy mine (come on desktop die!)

Last thing: If you plan to travel at all with the laptop buy a bag from NewEgg that is confirmed to work with this machine. I did not do this for the 1st one I bought and it took awhile to find one at a retail outlet that could hold this monster.
