2 out of 5 eggsScreen is already going out

Pros: I love having the full version of windows on it. It has been very handing many times, since I am often away from my desk. The price fit easily within my budget.

Cons: I have had the tablet for only 2 months, and now the touch screen is becoming unresponsive. There is about a 2 inch circular(ish) area on the screen that just does not respond to any touch. And it is in the worst possible place.

I hate the idea that I might have to take it in for service every few months. Hopefully, I will be able to find a good way to get it repaired.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that your VivoTab is not functioning at its full potential. If a hardware reset has not worked to help solve the touch issues you are encountering, I recommend sending it in to be diagnosed. I would be more than happy to help assist you with our RMA process. If you are interested please feel free to email me at CL-Scott1@asus.com with your serial number. Also, please put case number # N140823239 in the subject line for reference.

I am here to assist you and all others with your ASUS needs.

Best regards,
Scott

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Tablet for the price but..

Pros: Decent speed, good screen, Isn't Windows 8 RT but a full 32bit version of Windows 8.

Cons: Don't like that it charges via Micro USB the ONLY USB port. I wish it had a full on USB Port too. Also I didn't get a charge cable to begin with. Got the part that plugs in to the wall, just didn't get the cable. Funny I ordered this 2 days after a friend, his wall adapter is different than mine. Both say ASUS, both 2 amp but different. I frequently get the plugged in but not charging problem. He doesn't. Can't help but think his charger is better (Used his didn't get the plugged in but charging problem) .

Took forever to install Windows 8.1 but it eventually installed. And yes I did the 2 key KB's only first... The 8.1 update itself failed once, and then finally got it downloaded and it took many many hours. And yes, this isn't ASUS problem really.

Other Thoughts: For the most part I am happy with it. For the price it is was a good buy.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS VivoTab

Pros: I put average because I have had issues with windows 8. I have windows 8 on my home computer and hated learning how to use it. I have had this tablet for almost a month and I must say learning windows 8 with a touch screen is much easier. The tablet has worked awsome. Battery life is good, very responsive and the camera is good. When we first got it the updates took FOREVER! We we not sure if it was broken or just slow . After all the updates it runs great! Still learning all it is capable of, but so far so good.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsGreat great value

Pros: It's a PC
Nice screen
Good sound
Fast enough

Cons: Not loud enough
Need high level of tech expertise to setup

Other Thoughts: Great product for the refurb price. Once setup with win8.1 it works great, fast. Screen, cameras, sound are of high quality, back is made of a rubbery plastic so it provides great grip.
Be careful when upgrading, start in desktop mode with live update, update BIOS then reboot. At that point windows n mine crashed and had to be recovered. Live update stopped working as well. I had to install live view again and latest drivers from Asus. With upgrade to 8.1 I feel like for the money this is the best 10 tablet one can get.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken right out of box

Pros: Price, size, lightweight

Cons: Was never able to get it to work. Called asus for tech support and as wonderful as they were they couldn't fix issue. Reset to factory with a full reinstall four times and my personal information was still in there. Would NOT reset. Guess I just got a lemon.

Other Thoughts: Newegg took product back without any issue but guess they should when product didn't last ten minutes. Screen also had a scratch down center which was annoying. Really annoyed this product passed a inspection. Asus should have looked at it before sending it out, or looked at it a little closer.

1 out of 5 eggswrong charger in box :(

Pros: It's pretty

Cons: I can't turn it on because it came with a micro usb charger but takes a 36 pin charger

Other Thoughts: Got the tablet looked all over for a micro usb slot to charge it but there's not one. The micro usb charger that was on the box had a broken housing on it just to add the the problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet, Setup With Care!!

Pros: Inexpensive, Full version of Windows 8 (upgradeable to 8.1 in the store for free) responsive and nice looking screen, a really nice tablet for the money but make sure you do the setup right the first time! (See Other Thoughts Below)

Cons: Setup and updating is a bit of a pain, make one mistake and you have a brick, not sure if its so much the tablet as it is the software and drivers but you definitely have to do things in the correct order to end up a fully updated and working tablet.

Other Thoughts: I had to setup two of these, the first one went horribly wrong but i learned from it, and hopefully you read this before doing it yourself! Plug it in for this entire process... First and foremost after you turn it on and get logged into your Microsoft Account and you can get to the desktop run Asus LiveUpdate, FIRST. It will either ask you to update the LiveUpdate program when you go to the desktop and it first loads or when you open it. Allow LiveUpdate to get its update and restart. Then run the Asus LiveUpdate and do the BIOS update FIRST!! After thats done, it will reboot in the process, then do the other update thats available in Asus LiveUpdate and restart the tablet again. Now that you have those done run Windows Update and get the updates done, around 112 of them, do them one at a time, if you try to do more then one at a time it will just fail and you will be stuck in reverting changes from a failed update for most of a day, more on that in a second. The once each update is done, and you rebooted it after each update go to the Store and the first thing you see is Windows 8.1, tap on it and get it installed it will step you through the process. After 8.1 is setup and your back to the desktop check for updates again, i had 14 more to do. Now your ready to install apps and software and actually use it, took me almost an entire day to set the second one up slowly and carefully. So what happens if you don't do it right? The first one i setup i told it to do the 112 updates, it downloaded and installed then asked to reboot, after the reboot it was stuck saying the updates failed and its reverting changes, it was there for about 16 hours and a dozen auto reboots!! I read some reviews online that said don't do the bios update so after the revert eventually suceeded i did the updates slowly one at a time but then after the update to Windows 8.1 my display was unresponsive and glitchy. I had to hook up a keyboard via an OTG cable and do a Windows Reset back to Windows 8.0, then installed the Bios and update from Asus LiveUpdate, then all the Windows Updates again, and then Windows 8.1, it now works great but took about 60 hours to complete... Ughh Thats another thing if it fails you CAN NOT recover without a USB keyboard! The bluetooth keyboard i paired was unresponsive during boot to use F9 to get to the recovery. I finally have two working tablets after about 2 1/2 days work. Don't expect it to be perfect out of the box, its a long process to update it and get it right, but its worth the effort for the cost vs features!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Great product for the price. Love it. This product offers greater mobility compared to refular laptop. Get all of the my works done that Android Tablet and iPad could not accomplish.

Cons: UI is a bit not up to par compared to Android and iOS, but still a great product for corporate user.

Other Thoughts: Great product for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome cheap Win8 PC/Tablet

Pros: Light, has FULL Windows 8. It's really good for how much they're selling it for. Mainly this is a web browse/word processing device. I played 720p youtube videos and there was a tiny, tiny, bit of lag. Maybe if it was more optimized it wouldn't do that but it's still awesome.

Cons: I can confirm that it takes 8 hours to install Windows 8.1 from turning it on to updating to 8.1.
