1 out of 5 eggsBattery Problems

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Very fast and powerful system, great for games.

Cons: Battery problems after over a month of ownership. Laptop dies when unplugged from AC power and battery indicator shows the battery is charged to 97%.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop if plugged into AC power but problems if unplugged.

1 out of 5 eggsShipping Issues

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great laptop, if it would arrive when New Egg guaranteed.

Cons: I ordered this laptop within the timely manner and selected rush processing (extra $) and next day shipping. The website states its being packaged now for about a day, while the automated telephone system stated it shipped out on September 10th (The day I Ordered It). Which contradicts itself.

Apparently even they don't know there shipping process, and now I've got to tell my son that the birthday present he wished for wont arrive in time because New Egg can't follow through with the services they offer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. For any shipping related issues, please contact NewEgg directly. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140935360 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

3 out of 5 eggs5 star laptop with 1 star quality control

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: For the price, nothing is better. The sound is good. The screen is better than the competition. The design is not made of plastic. The graphics are great. Plenty of RAM. An SSD drive. The cooling system is nice.

This is a fast laptop with a perfect set of features. The only improvements to me would have caused me to spend a lot more money on an Aorus or something.

Under perfect conditions, this laptop sounds great, runs most modern games at high/ultra, boots up in seconds, and runs at a max of 80C (Furmark).

Cons: The quality control on this is absolutely horrible. I had to go through four, THAT'S RIGHT, FOUR!! laptops before I finally found one that didn't have something wrong with them. Here are some issues I encountered.

Laptop 1: Temperatures on GPU were way too high. Running any moderately heavy GPU usage caused 90-93c temperatures. Furmark jumped to 93 and stayed at it permanently. Returned for a replacement.

Laptop 2: Good temperatures. Furmark topped out at 80. Most games didn't reach 75. However, after one day, the subwoofer broke and would cut out and in constantly, and make popping noises all the time. Returned.

Laptop 3: Back to high temperatures. Furmark ran to 90C this time. Games would run at 80+. This is not horrible, but I'm paying lots of money for a laptop that should last me a long time, so I'm at least going to get one that runs to specifications. Returned.

Laptop 4: Scratches on screen. It was in new packaging and everything, completely unopened. Didn't even turn it on, I just put it right back in the box. Returned.

Laptop 5: Finally seemed to get a model without any issues. Temperatures are in good ranges, subwoofer is still working (knock on wood).

Other Thoughts: Honestly, it was really stressful having such awful quality control issues. I'm about to leave the country and I won't be able to get any returns and warranty once I leave so it's very important for me to have a laptop that works according to specifications. I didn't have time to RMA everything.

If I had known that I would run into these issues from the start, I would have just spent the extra money for an Aorus, or gone with MSI. It sucks because I really like the ASUS the best of all the gaming computers, and I wish they would spend more money on what is clearly a great product with really bad QA.

Also I'd like to say Newegg was great during the process, all the refunds went out way earlier than expected, and customer support worked to get my returns expedited since they knew I had a short amount of time.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen is Dangerous

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Extremely fast performance, sleek look, seems to cool itself well.

Cons: Screen that flickers terribly (most noticeable with brghtness turned down). Horizontal and vertical lines. Dangerous for those with epilepsy or photosensitivity. Simplistic screen controls. No way to adjust Gamma settings. Movement in movies has odd visual blurring/jerking. Forced Optimus.

Other Thoughts: I would give this laptop 4 stars if the screen were not so terribly bad that it renders the rest of it useless. The extra missing star is because the laptop limits the user's range of access to hardware settings in general (e.g. for the touchpad, screen, etc.) and forcing software like Optimus (instead of making it optional to turn Optimus off) is just a bad deal. I would venture to say that most of us who are willing to pay extra for a gaming laptop, would also appreciate a fair degree of customization potential in both software and hardware control.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS G750 JS

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Battery, Build Quality A+++, temps/fan noise while gaming, keyboard, support, everything except rendering, large great trackpad

Cons: CPU temps while rendering (full/max/true 100% CPU load leads to 100c and thermal throttling). Went through 7 Asus laptops all same thing.
But that's really it, and only in those circumstances, everything else A+

Other Thoughts: Review MSI GT70 Dominator Pro 890
-My laptop purchasing experience -
First thing, I have over the past 6 months gone through over 10 laptops trying to find ‘THE ONE’. This all started at Best, eventually led to Ama, and finished at New.
Starting with the Asus G750JX from last year (current year when purchased). I really liked the laptop, but it was heavier than I had originally wanted, and battery life was around 2.5-3 hours. But I had my eye on the Samsung ativ book 8. So I exchanged the ASUS for the Samsung.
The Samsung was light, 8 hours of battery, slim, touch screen, i7 and discrete video chip. Just great. But while rendering, I was getting insane heats, which ultimately lead to frying several core components and leaving the laptop unusable.
After the Samsung, I went and spent $2500 on the MacBook pro retina with discrete graphics. I was trying to stay under $1500, but figured if I wanted the best, I had to pay for the best. Well, the apple boot loaded to windows, was pretty much just a better build Samsung at twice the cost. While rendering, heats got unbearable, horribly throttled, and laptop felt like a frying pan.
When having these troubles with the apple, Asus came out with the newer versions of the G750, with the 800 series graphics and optimus which almost doubled the battery life. I figured, weight wise id have to deal with if I wanted the cooling I needed, and the battery complaint vs my first ASUS was now fixed. So I started off with the JM series with 860m. Overall awesome laptop, everything was just quality, top notch. While gaming, temps were cool, fans were quiet, and it was just awesome. But while rendering, CPU temps easily got to 100c and the computer throttled the CPU to cool it down. Which is great, but every throttle during rendering, led to my final rendered video having a glitch or artifact of some sort every time it throttled. Which was about 100 times during an hour movie. Brought it back and exchanged it for the same model. (I really liked/like the ASUS). Next laptop same thing, so exchanged it for same model again. Same thing.
So I returned for money back, and went to ama. Thinking maybe best - buy models were all of same shipment, maybe something wrong with that production line. So went and stepped up to the JS model on ama. Which was awesome, bought at 5pm, and paid $10 for next day shipping, had by noon the very next day. Just wow ama.
The new ama purchased JS series I immediately ran stress tests instead of downloading and installing all my programs to figure out the heating issues. Well the first JS laptop excelled. Reached around 90c, still warm but 10c away from throttling. I though, just great. Within a few weeks, temps were back to 100c and throttling. So I called ama, and they sent out another one for replacement. I received next day and had 30 days to return mine via provided USPS prepaid shipping box. Again, ama, awesome.
The very first thing I did again, was stress test 100% CPU, and temps w

4 out of 5 eggsInitial Impressions

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Large Screen, bright display, powerful, backlit keyboard, a factory warranty that covers accidental damage, rubberized coating

Cons: Poor audio reproduction for bass audio, some bloatware (not too much compared to other laptops), prone to visible fingerprints

Other Thoughts: Another reviewer (either on this one or one of the other builds) mentioned that you couldn't use the left click and push a button at the same time. This is a Windows 8 setting that can be adjusted by opening up the charm bar -> Change PC Settings (on the bottom) -> PC and Devices -> Mouse and Touchpad, then change the "Touchpad" setting to "No delay (always on)."

Others recommend doing a clean install of Windows and you can do this if you want, but it's not necessary. There's very little bloatware on the laptop. Actually, other than a trial of Office and a subscription to McAfee (at least I think there might be a trial, I don't know, I removed it right away), the rest of the included software is either Asus software or other drivers.

I recommend running the display calibration software in Windows. The display that mine came with was very bright with too much blue in the display that made the picture look washed out.

I'm not sure if NewEgg allows updating of reviews, but if they do, I'll be sure to come back and update should anything come up.

5 out of 5 eggsWow! Super fast!

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This little puppy is super fast!! Great battery life if you're just using it to do random internet stuff. I think once the graphics card kicks in, it'll eat the battery pretty quick. The screen is beautiful, sound is quite nice and the feel of the laptop is solid.

It's a great desktop replacement or a computer you know will be there for you if you need to go on a trip, but still have the ability to game or do any sort of high cpu work. Photoshop works great on this beast as well as pretty much any game I throw its way.

I love the keyboard and the touch pad is huge.. Maybe a little too huge, but that's okay. It's very easy to customize with Asus's software.

Cons: It didn't come with a free sandwich. :(

Other Thoughts: This machine is worth the money! I think I would have probably went with the 1200 dollar version, but at least with the graphics card and cpu I know that this guy will be with me for the long haul.

4 out of 5 eggsYou will not be disappointed.

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This things eats up everything I throw at it. I primarily run racing simulations. Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, F1-2013, LFS, iRacing, and Sim Raceway all run flawlessly with every graphics setting maxed. It's a beast and stays cool as can be.

Cons: It's gotta be the widest laptop I've ever seen and definitely the heaviest. I bought it knowing full well what I was getting. My only issue with it was finding a case that rolls to hold the beast! It took quite a while but I ended up buying a swissgear sleeve and a targus rolling laptop case.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming laptop, touchy partitions

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JS-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: SSD makes startup/restarts super fast, 1TB HDD for plenty of game storage, Runs everything I have on ultra settings (Watch_Dogs being the latest title)

Cons: Drives are partitioned oddly, bloatware, changing the partitions broke the recovery partition - thankfully Windows key is stored in BIOS and can be retrieved easily, note I did not try to alter the recovery partition in any way, but changing the size of the other partitions on the SSD seems to have broken it

Other Thoughts: If you know how to do a clean install of Windows 8, I'd recommend it. Not having all of the bloatware is a definite plus. Just search Google for "G750JS Windows 8.1 Clean Install" and you'll find everything you need.
