1 out of 5 eggsWorse purchase ever

Pros: NONE

Cons: Had it in for repairs twice within 6 months. Still not powering up a few weeks later. Tech service extremely poor. They send you back the tablet in working order but zero info on what the problem was.

Other Thoughts: Worse brand name in the industry. Bought an iPad and never had a problem in two plus years. Many complaints on the internet of consumers having the same problem.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNot a good product.

Pros: At the time, it came with a keyboard for a lower price than those without. When new, it was a versatile device.

Cons: 8 months in, BOTH tablets have the same issue where the touchscreens do not respond. We have factory reset each at least twice, with no success, and cannot use them without the keyboards. I realized that the keyboards in fact were a horrible idea, when I had to use them exclusively...it's not easy. This is apparently an ongoing issue (min 4 years per the dates on some sites) with ASUS, that I would encourage others to research if thinking about the product. I found a great deal of information on this issue on a wide variety of support sites, including their own forums. No "solution" that I have found works however, and there is no real information on a fix from ASUS themselves, as if it doesn't really exist.

Other Thoughts: I don't think that I would buy another Transformer series, the keyboards may not be the ultimate issue, but they are definitely are a common link.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Matthew,

I apologize if you were dissatisfied with the laptop. On the contrary, there are lots of very satisfied customers that are having positive experience using the product. We are aware of the touchscreen issue being reported by users, this can either be a software related or an isolated hardware issue. If you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150650342 on the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen becomes unresponsive

Pros: Fast, light, good battery life.

Cons: Touch screen becomes unresponsive for no apparent reason, requiring factory reset and erasing all data.

Other Thoughts: I bought this in November, and it initially proved to be a great tablet. Since that time I have had the screen become unresponsive to touch, requiring a factory hard reset and erasure of all data/programs; basically starting from scratch, a HUGE inconvenience. The tablet is all stock and has the latest firmware updates from Asus (Build# WW-2.2.33.138 & Android 4.4.2). As of now, I have to do the factory reset about and complete data erase/start over about 4 or 5 times, and it is getting very tedious. I read an Am-a-zon review of someone who had the exact same issue, but he just returned the tablet and never got a solution. In other forums I have seen mentioned that there are compatibility issues with the Intel processor, and the Android apps; it is suggested that not all Android apps are compatible with the Intel processor, and I am wondering if this is the case. The touch screen works fine after the hard factory reset and wipe of all data, but then becomes unresponsive again after re-installing apps and updating Google apps. I am hoping I do not have to factory reset AGAIN, and then install each app/update one by one, to determine if it is a software incompatibility issue. This device has proven to very frustrating, and not worth the cost.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's everything I wanted in a tablet - lightweight with a great little keyboard dock to allow me to work on the go.

Cons: I've had it for just over a week, and I'm already unable to charge past 91%. One of the biggest draws for me was battery life, and I've already lost nearly an hour of it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat tablet with slight problems.

Pros: Great screen size and quality, the keyboard is a great addition for document writing, no issues with charging.

Cons: When trying to access file manager to view memory card the tablet lags out and refuses to open, takes a very long time to fully power down (like 10- 20 mins), issues when downloading apps from the Google play store, and when trying to view movies from a media player it skips whilst playing throughout the whole movie.

Other Thoughts: I do enjoy using the tablet and i am interested in keeping it but I'm open to suggestions for any problem solving issues for these few problems. Thanks for taking the time to read.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great packaging, and shipment was on time.
I am very happy with my product. Looks great. Great features, and very fast.
I've used Android based systems and I can say that the hardware is a great addition to the overall items.

Cons: No cons.

1 out of 5 eggsBig problems

Pros: Great form factor at a great price.
Feels nice and zippy (compared to my original transformer)

Cons: Battery won't charge to 100%.
Apps in background are aggressively closed making switching between apps a tiresome affair.

Other Thoughts: I was a extremely happy owner of the original transformer, so I love the form factor. I also like Asus as I have personally owned a few of their routers as well as purchasing their laptops for my office. The tf103 is a budget tablet so I expected it to feel cheaper but was pleasantly surprised by it. My initial enthusiasm was dampened by a couple of show stopper problems.

First, the battery. Like a couple of other reviewers mentioned, the tablet stopped charging to 100%. The percentage it charges to is affected by how low I run the battery. The lower it goes, the less high it will charge. Right now it won't charge above 40%. This is what the indicator says, I doubt this is accurate.

I sent it to Asus for repair. They wanted me to pay for shipping on a defective tablet that was a month old, but I pressed them and eventually they gave me a shipping label. For some reason it took over a week to email me the shipping label. To be fair the cs reps were helpful and understanding, but the process is slow and painful. I received the tablet back after a week or so and the battery had been replaced. It was charged to 99% out of the box but immediately started exhibiting the same behavior. So it is going back again, though this time they volunteered to pay shipping. It still took a full week to email the shipping label.

Others have mentioned this battery problem so I don't think it's isolated like the Asus rep says in response to one of the earlier reviews.

The second issue is that apps in the background seem to be closed aggressively. This causes apps to restart completely even if they are just swapped into the background for a moment. This was most annoying with my Sonos music app and my password manager. Every time I went back to one of these apps it would restart. For the Sonos app this would cause an irritating wait before I could control my music. With the password app it meant I would have to re-enter the master password.

All of this has been ongoing for over two months. Perhaps I'll update the review when I get it back for the second time, but at this point I'm totally fed up and I can't believe how much time I've wasted on this. Unfortunately I wish I'd never bought it, which is a real shame as nothing beats the transformer form factor. I don't have much faith these problems will he resolved and I didn't even bother raising the app closing problem with tech support. Another reviewer here mentions the problem so it is also not isolated. After this I'm giving up, it's just not worth the effort and I'm not sure I'll ever trust the thing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment. I certainly understand your concern regarding the battery not charging fully. If the problem persists when you receive it back from service, please drain it completely then charge it fully without using the system. Once full-charged, please use the system, without the AC adapter connected, and drain it completely. Please repeat the charging process thereafter. Also, please verify if the unit is running with the most current system update and third-party applications being installed are fully- Android compliant. If you need further assistance regarding the warranty service on the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141156717 on the subject line.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Improvements over over TF101, power/sleep moved where not accidentally bumped, charge in now USB, and touch keyboard much improved. Android also appears not locked to 4.4.2 KitKat (as shipped). Recovery/migration much improved.

Cons: No HDMI port, no battery in keyboard, or SD card support. Battery indication is erroneous full charge (over night) shows 64%, or occasionally 75%. Facebook, Browser, Email and games abruptly "close". Browser no longer saves/stores IDs or Passwords, nor does it ask to save... very frustrating. I have been in contact ASUS Support. Only suggested "Factory Reset", which after several hours of rebuilding, problems not corrected. Waiting for next response. Per the Net, Battery status can be corrected by resetting battery in ROM while fully charged.

5 out of 5 eggsTablet is outstanding

Pros: Tablet works well in all cdatagories. After downloading the 13 chapter owners manual from Asus Website it became very apparent how powerful this tablet is. My wife is the primary user and she can access gmail and Time Warner Email at the touch of 1 finger. I bought 65 gb Mini SDcard to compliment the tablet and it is great for her HD movies, with headphones and earbuds the sound is very good. The speaker has enough volume to be used in a noisy enviroment without any problems. The battery life after a full charge appears to be at 8 to 9 hours before battery low warning. All in all I give it 5 eggs with Kudos to Newegg for quick shipping and nice safe packing. I have Shoprunner account and the 2 day free shipping to Maui is a real help to us so far away.

Cons: No cons after downloading full owners manual from Asus website, the quick start guide that ships with the tablet is basically no help whatsoever so you really need the complete 13 chapter manual to achieve full understanding and usage of the tablet. Weight is a little heavy with keyboard attached but when the tablet is used standalone the weight is no problem at all.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Tablet, But

Pros: The tablet is fairly solid, good components, plays games and movies reasonably well.

Cons: I have as of late encountered battery issues, in addition to a strange "bug" that seems to occur only when connected to the Keyboard. The battery issues are, it refuses to charge beyond 63%, I've looked it up online and have noted that it is not a rare orccurance, I was able to charge it fully after entering recovery mode and factory resetting the tablet that way. I haven't been able to resolve the other issue, which, to describe it simply, is a "split screen problem" before everyone tries to execute me I am aware of the feature, however in my case the right half of the screen displays on the left, and vice versa, and in an ever so lovely shade of pink... Well my daughter likes it anyway... it can be resolved by simply putting the tablet to sleep, then "waking" it again, but it simply re-occurs a few minutes later. Not so much "cons" as it would be bugs I guess, but that's subject to interpretation.

Other Thoughts: On the whole the tablet is great, and I do love it, the bugs are just that, and I've noted that the battery issues only started after upgrading to KitKat, so it's possible it's simply a software issue. I would hesitate recommend it to anyone, simply because of the battery issues, and the fact that they don't seem to be rare.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that the whole tablet is great and you do love it besides the minor bug you have resolved regarding the battery charging issue, which is an isolated case.
