4 out of 5 eggsSolid but slightly flawed

Pros: Very durable. Feels like military grade case! Bright screen. Good keyboard. The function keys are great, speakers are good enough. Power options are good and the battery life is oh so sweet compared to the Toshiba I just put in the closet.

Cons: Microphone is terrible. Locks up for 5-15 seconds randomly since the day I took it out of the box. USB inputs are ridiculously TIGHT. Speakers are a bit quiet at full volume.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop because I did not want to dedicate any keyboard space to a numeric keypad like most laptop configurations out there. Happily the company with the right layout was Lenovo! It's a strong machine. If anyone has any insight on the 10 second freeze-up, I'll owe you a beer.

5 out of 5 eggssolid laptop

Pros: I was worried after using a 15.6" screen that the 14" on this one would be inadequate, but it serves just fine. The battery much longer, it boots faster, and it's lighter than my last laptop, a Dell. I'm also really impressed with the Wi-Fi card and the webcam. I use the computer mainly for work and I can transport it to work and back easily - it's just the right size, and seems like it would be harder to break than other laptops as well (but I still wouldn't recommend stepping on it in the middle). I'm very happy with my purchase.

Cons: The annoying thing I've struggled with is the placement of the Fn key. It's where the Ctrl key should be, so I often get mixed up while copying and pasting stuff. Not a huge deal, and I'll get over it, but worth mentioning I suppose. Additionally, the speakers aren't fantastic. They do their job, but they aren't especially loud or vibrant.

Other Thoughts: I'd be happy to recommend this laptop to any of my friends. The best word I can think of for is....solid.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great laptop for the price, built solid. Very fast (I reinstalled the OS and have the SSD). Great keyboard, nice metal hinges, you could use this thing as a club or to drive nails if needed! Start up/shutdown times < 30 sec.

Cons: Yes - it does come with bloatware that does slow it down. However it is not difficult to reinstall the OS. Lenovo is really good about making the required drivers available online.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No question about a very stable unit. RAM installed is Nanya Technology 4gb that is impossible to buy to upgrade.
I would really appreciate if anyone who bought the same machine and upgraded to 8GB tells me which one to buy. Other than that no complains.

Cons: NA

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Excellent Build Quality
Layout of Controls
ThinkLight
Multiple Input Methods
USB ports on three sides
Keyboard quality
Some of the Lenovo bloatware is somewhat useful
Touchpad Quality
Internal Rollcage
Spill resistant keyboard

Cons: Sound Quality could be a little better
Screen Quality could also be better
Loads of Bloatware
ThinkVantage is useless
Touchpad is small

Other Thoughts: I have ordered three so far, one for myself and the other two I have deployed to co-workers. I bought this machine due to the fact that they are known for their durability and quality. I was not let down. This machine is light, but not flimsy nor cheap feeling. The metal hinges, and tapered screen edge are great features. I love the keyboard, typing is enjoyable similar to my MBP. The inputs are exactly what i was looking for, I don't need 20 usb ports, but what I did want was usb ports on more than two sides and I got exactly that. As mentioned above this machine has too much bloatware especially for a business oriented product and Thinkvantage is useless in my opinion, but hey that's pretty minor. The sound quality nor the screen quality are by any means bad, they just aren't great, and i don't think that it should reflect your decision to buy this machine as it really is a great purchase, not to mention it has more features than most competitor products and is priced lower.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic.

Pros: Durable. Slim. Portable. Amazing display. 7200 RPM hard drive. Expandable RAM. vTech i5 is smoking fast.

Cons: They aren't cheaper. :)

Other Thoughts: I've rolled about 10 of these out to clients over the last year and a half and everybody just loves them. There's really nothing not to like about them. Spend the extra money (especially while watching for sales) and go with these proven, business-class machines. I'd be very disappointed if they stopped making T420s.

4 out of 5 eggsSturdy and reliable

Pros: Keyboard is very solid and usable
No flexing or flimsy feeling to this computer
Starts up very quickly
The Lenovo bloatware has some uses
No noise at all: no fan or anything. It's super quiet.
No heat - I can leave it on my lap all day.

Cons: Screen resolution isn't great, and makes looking at it for hours feel like I'm looking through mist.
The optical drive is situated so that if you bump it on that side, or turn it using that corner, you're going to eject it.

Other Thoughts: I love it, because I wanted a computer to work on for hours at time and that was portable but not flimsy, reliable but not sleek. This thing is definitely not flimsy or sleek, which is great for me. The biggest surprise was how quiet and cool it has been. And the keyboard remains true to the legacy that ThinkPads have built.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect business laptop

Pros: Fast. Solidly built. Nice keyboard. Good battery life. Glidepad and pointing stick. Buttons above and below the touchpad. Very quiet. The relatively small size is just right for me. Not much bloatware. Speakers are not bad for a laptop. There's a lot to like about this laptop.

Cons: Boring square black look.
I would have preferred hdmi rather than displayport output.
For best performance you have to add the other 4GB of memory.

Other Thoughts: I am very pleased with this laptop. It is quiet, fast, and seems durable. They keyboard layout is perfect and the tactile feel of the keys is just right. The result is I just type away and my fingers know where the keys are. I can be in a meeting looking up at the person speaking and touch typing my notes.

From powered off to completely ready to use in 60 seconds, and that's with a conventional hard drive.

This is going to be my primary machine for both business and home use. I plan to take this with me everywhere. I bought almost exactly this model from another site because of a sale. I got the 9 cell battery and I added a 4GB memory card from NewEgg. With the 9 cell battery, the battery life is excellent. You can take it with you all day without the AC adapter.

Not as thin and elegant as an ultrabook or macbook. Video is probably not suitable for gaming (I don't care). The 14" screen is a little small for some. If that bothers you then get the T520.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop + value

Pros: I don't know why more people are not buying this laptop. I'm a dealer, and this thing is priced slightly below single-lot wholesale cost. This is not your average big box store laptop. It's a Lenovo "T series." Built to take a lot of abuse and last a long time. No, it's not one of the "I look cool in the coffee shop" super thin thinbooks, but it will outperform a lot of them, especially on battery life. If you're the person who wants to buy a laptop to actually use it, get this. It has a *real* keyboard, not one of those "chicklet" type rubber keys that fall off keyboard. Has DisplayPort, has eSATA for really fast backups. If you get this, you WILL backup the hard drive, right? After all, this comes with a really nice 7,200 rpm hard drive. Don't get a SSD drive (Google all about their limited write capacities).

Cons: Battery doesn't last 100 hrs, won't mow my lawn.

Other Thoughts: Nice speakers, a *real* delete key, metal hinges so the display won't fall off, Intel Centrino WiFi with WiDi (Google ThAT) (I get +20mbbs download from wireless beat that), higher end i5 CPU, runs stuff really fast, even runs PhotoShop at a decent speed for a laptop. Can upgrade memory to 8gb for $20 from NewEgg. Win 7 Pro - to be supported until 2020 which this laptop could last that long. Hope you like my review!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's perfect. Exactly what I wanted.

Cons: Somewhat difficult to keep clean (exterior), but that's only cosmetic.
