5 out of 5 eggsFor gamers

Pros: This laptop is GREAT at alot of things. I am a pretty heavy gamer, and can play every game I own at max settings at a very comfortable framerate. I was never really a fan of the Intel 'i' series but this one blew me away. The i5 2430m this laptop has is plenty powerful to handle most any game. The version I have has the GT-555m 1gb(ddr5) gpu, as well as the i5 integrated graphics. The gt-555m is a VERY impressive card for a <$700 laptop to have. It overclocks like a beast. Great battery life, 5 hours non-gaming.

Cons: Only a few things that bug me. I am slightly disappointed that the screen resolution is only 1366x768. Though if you have an external monitor to hook up to then no biggie. Also an issue buyers must keep in mind. This is a LAPTOP, with a pretty good gpu and cpu in it. IT DOES tend to get very hot while gaming. I almost guarentee you will want a cooling pad to go along with this. Do not let this stop you, it is a great machine. Just dont bake your cards. The laptop internals are rated safe at 100c. But anywhere 90c+ and you may cause damage.

Other Thoughts: I will list some example games + performances.
**All games are played at max settings**
-----------------------------------------------------------
Game name: Framerate, GPU Temp, CPU Temp

Crysis: 35, 88c, 85c (overclocked: 42, 93c+, 90c) [no AA]
Counterstrike Source: 150, 68c, 75c
Portal 2: 70+, 85c+, 85c
DiRT 2: 45, 85c+, 92c+ (overclocked: 50, 90c, 90c[forced 99% cpu usage instead of 100%])
GTA 4: 30, 90c, 90c (overclocked: 35, 92c+, 85c+)
Bioshock 2: 180, 87c, 80c
TeamFortess 2: 100, 75c, 85c

The above is all WITHOUT a cooling pad.
WITH one, I never go above 90c gpu or cpu

3 out of 5 eggsReWrite

Pros: Entry level gaming price

Powerful Machine

Keyboard w/ a number pad

Nice grip on touchpad

Ability to turn Video card on and off

Cons: The heat it produces can cause a major lag/slow down when gaming for extended periods. GTAIV is frustratingly unplayable after 5 minutes while Skyrim works great if you can handle the heat.

Washed out colors compared to other current gen laptop screens

Lower resolution, 1366x768, isn't ideal

Other Thoughts: Earlier I reviewed and raved about it. It was great computer for about a month and then all the quirks started in.

The heat is a major issue to me, maybe it's acceptable but I worry about it burning something out and I end up w/ a brick.

I don't care for the screen at all compared to other makes/models. It's dull and kind of kills that great "vivid effect" when gaming.

While there is a price disparity between the 2, I prefer my new Envy in every category.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so good anymore

Pros: GT555M
Core i5
6gb Ram
750GB HD
Screen
Hybrid Graphics
Lenovo

It was nice while it lasted. This thing was a true desktop replacement until it started to fall apart.

Cons: This is a laptop that looks nice on paper. When i first got this laptop it was fantastic, It would run every single game that I had on MAX and rip the fps to shreds, not so much anymore. Maybe I did not notice it at first but the laptop has a terrible problem with CPU and GPU throttling. When Running SC2 my FPS will drop from 100+ to 1-3 (according to the sc2 built in fps) If i alt tab i will see that he CPU has dropped from 2.w/e ghz to a mere 789mhz... Does this in almost every thing. It also runs SOOOO hot. This is the first laptop that I actually NEEDED a cooling pad for. Here as i am typing this I am running on balanced and the GT555M is disabled and the fan is blowing boiling hot air, why? No freaking clue, There is no dust stuck in the fan because I looked. One day I left it on my table (made of wood) nice flat surface so it could breath, I got back (3 hours or so )picked it up and it was absolutely on fire and the heat sink grill broke.

Other Thoughts: Like i said earlier this laptop looks good on paper, it will destroy everything except a laptop that costs twice as much but the way it over-heats and stutters/lags randomly in games is completely unacceptable. My warranty will be up in 2 months and I cannot send it in untill this semester of college is done because it is my only computer. That is if they will even take it because of the broken grill thanks to the heat that spews out of it.

2 out of 5 eggsIf Only it Worked...

Pros: Quite powerful for the price. When it works, it works very nice and runs pretty demanding games.

Cons: Extremely unstable. Sometimes it works, sometimes two of the USB ports and the Nvidia GPU just won't function. In addition to this, it has frame drop issues in many of the games I played such as StarCraft 2, Modern Warfare 3, Tribes: Ascend, and Magicka.

Other Thoughts: If this laptop worked, it'd be an amazing system for the price, but unfortunately it just does not. I wouldn't recommend, unless you intend to change it in under a month because its Optimus, USB ports, and power management basically stop working after around this time period.

5 out of 5 eggsI like'd it from the start

Pros: First of all, I love the keyboard, i like the distance between each keys, helps you a lot with typing very fast, the speakers are great, I wasn't expecting that good quality. Can't say anything bad about the quality of the video card and of the processor, they work well but of course they have there limmit's.

Cons: The only problem it could have seen, if you can call it a problem, is the "problem" with the screen, it glows if you don't look at it in a right possition. But the quality of the graphics, meaning movies/games etc. are awesome.
An other thing I don't like is that the hard has 5400 RPM, it's pretty slow for modern games and news stuff.

Other Thoughts: The other special thing i like is that you have 2 video cards and, what's awesome is that you don't use the video card/cpu with its best performance when you don't need it. You can activated manually when need it. It's perfect for some one who's a games.

5 out of 5 eggsGOOD BUILD

Pros: Good Video Card, So far I've tested Skyrim, MW3 and Bulletstorm and all run smooth on high.

Quality Build, good design, cheap for a PC w/ this power.

Keyboard w/ a number pad

Nice grip on touchpad

Ability to turn Video card on and off

I can ignore xbox and buy discounted games via Steam and run them on BIG TV via HDMI.

Highly upgradable.

Can't say enough about price point vs power

Cons: Power consumption when card is engaged - maybe inevitable?

Screen seems a bit dull and I've tried a few color profiles.

Other Thoughts: I converted to SSD and added 2 more GB of RAM for extra umph via Newegg for under $200 for some CS5.5 power.

All games still run perfectly off the original 5400 drive via removing the DVD and adding a drive caddie (feebay $20).... Skyrim off the 5400 is perfect

3 out of 5 eggsPretty, horrible support and Drivers

Pros: Clean, Sleek, big, orange on black, Big HDD, and the GT 555m for this price

Cons: -Horrible tech support. GPU issues from the start, and they said that they would send me windows 7 cd's to recover the OS for 60 dollars. How on earth does that make sense?

-Horrible Drivers. Download from nvidia and don't use lenovos. GPU cuts out all the time and bsod's the laptop.

-Drivers for installing windows 7 through the USB3.0 port is a joke.

I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 because Ubuntu runs like a champ, and I pulled off all there bloatware and partitioning garbage windows 7 got up and running finally. This is not a laptop for the faint of heart. Prepare for tweaking.

Other Thoughts: The hardware is nice, and overall I really want to like the laptop and am still giving it a chance. But horrible support and garbage drivers are really making it hard. Even with updated drivers the GPU is garbage and won't stay on unless I baby it. Even on their screen it says if the GPU is on do not hibernate the laptop or it will bsod.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst impressions

Pros: A great laptop. Worked just fine out of the box. Skyrim runs flawlessly on high settings, just make sure the graphics card switch is on. Even the graphics drivers were up to date. The laptop came with very little bloatware. It is also significantly lighter than my old 17" laptop which is always nice. Coming with 6gb of ram is always helpful too. The speakers also sound great for coming out of a laptop. Not one big complaint with this laptop yet.

Cons: Would be nice to have a 7200rpm hard drive. Would've gladly sacrificed space for speed. Not a huge deal to upgrade anyway. It feels like it can put out some heat while playing skyrim but I use a cooling pad anyway.

Other Thoughts: I like the texture to the touchpad but not sure everyone will. Make sure the graphics cards switch is on when playing games or doing something graphics intensive. Will make a more in depth update after further use.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The laptop's specs look nice on paper, and the keyboard is very nice. It seems to have everything that I was looking for in this price range, but...

Cons: Unfortunately, the laptop arrived with a faulty video card. The integrated graphics ran fine, but the laptop would bluescreen whenever the video card was enabled. I RMA'ed the laptop once (by driving to the nearest FedEx location that supported their free shipping thirty miles away) and it arrived back with the same problem. All that had been done was a bios update. RMAed the laptop again, this time the motherboard was replaced but this time it came back with a chunk of the casing broken off near the hinge. I'm currently on the phone with tech support and they're telling me I have to RMA it AGAIN.

Other Thoughts: This laptop has been in the mail and at their warehouse more days than I've had it in my possession. I will never purchase another Lenovo product again after this experience with their tecnhnical support team.

2 out of 5 eggsOkay, BUT

Pros: The Core I5 and HD together seems to work faster then any other core I5 laptop I have owned. The laptop was very responsive. The speakers in this laptop are truly amazing. The ten key pad is a nice touch(if it would have worked properly)

Cons: Mine came with three problems right out of the box. First the battery was loose and could be wiggled when picking up the laptop. Second the 10 key pad would randomly not work, and third their were driver issues in device management. I ended up sending this laptop back for refund because it came damaged and problems straight out of the box.

Other Thoughts: After doing extensive research all over Lenovo forums and Google I have found a lot of issues going on with this laptop. I don't know if it is a certain batch they have sent out or what but I personally would not recommend this product.
