4 out of 5 eggsA decent AMD-based laptop

Pros: Lightweight and decent specifications for the money.

Cons: Touch/trackpad is really annoying as scrolling and zooming are often confused. Doesn't have a SSD, which by now most laptops on the market should come with by default.

Other Thoughts: Can be used for light to medium gaming on the go which is pretty nice as the price is relatively low. That being said it is not a powerhouse, I use mine for a little gaming and some development that employs the use of virtual machines and after a few vms are running there is a noticeable slowdown. Also, not a huge con for me but the BIOS is absolute garbage, as in you can't change anything except the boot order and a few usb/harddrive modes. Hopefully lenovo issues a revision that gives users a bit more control.

4 out of 5 eggsVery, very nice laptop WITHOUT Win 8

Pros: Nice solid feeling metal case, 6GB ram, 750 Hard drive, stays cool, great price and a joy to use but.....

Cons: Not easy to upgrade to Win 8 without trouble shooting incompatibility issues especially with Internet Explorer. Quite a few glitches after upgrade and very time consuming to troubleshoot.

Other Thoughts: Very, very nice laptop without Win 8. After several attempts at upgrading, I've decided to stick with Win 7 on this laptop. I would reccomment to others but use a different browser or purchase the upgraded model with Win 8 already installed.

5 out of 5 eggsGood purchase

Pros: (See other thoughts)
This laptop is very awesome. It's quite, and it stays cool at the same time. It has a nice brushed metallic design that makes the laptop look awesome. The keyboard layout is awesome and I can easily type with this. I own a mechanical gaming saying i like the keyboard from a laptop means its really good!
I can play League of legends on high setting from 40-60 fps.
I can run Battlefield 3 on lowest settings with a stable fps from 34+ to 42.

I got this computer for school and it also plays 10 bit 1080p videos with no lag at all. The computer never heats up!
The touchpad is awesome as well!

This laptop has a neat feature that alows u to "de-dust" the fan. it sets the fan to 100% speed and blows out all the dust!
Also has awesome space..

Cons: Bloatware, but I did a fresh instal of win7 64bit ult. And it's 20 times faster!

Other Thoughts: This is an awesome low end gaming laptop that doesn't weigh too much. It's for good school use, and videos on the go.

I can travel from L.A to Mexico and back (4-6 hours) and the laptop will still have like 20% battery from watching 720p 10bit Anime shows.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for the Bucks

Pros: I bought this computer to replace a desktop and I was leery, but have been quite impressed. I often use heavy duty applications and have encountered absolutely zero problems running even multiple programs at once (example: GIMP, Scribus, Libre Office, LastFM and Mulitabbed Firefox). I also play Lord of the Rings Online and this little machine can crunch the graphics even at the highest settings without breaking a sweat. Can't beat the AMD A-series Quad Core or the Radeon APU. Keyboard is best I've used in a laptop. Touchpad is best I've used in a laptop (and I normally despise touchpads). Built-in thermal management is top-notch but easy enough for an average user to configure. Display is flawless. No problems running multiple, resource-heavy programs. Vision Engine software's easy to use and effective. Very quiet operation. Decent battery life. Built-in sound very good for a laptop.

Cons: Like most pre-built laptops, there was some bloatware to remove, but not a lot. Apparently there's no way to configure the machine's behavior when the top is closed (it goes to sleep). I guess my only other complaint would be that the screen is a bit small at 15.6"; however, using an external monitor is easy enough to configure when I've wanted to do that. I had a problem with the wireless networking but that seems to have been a Windows issue rather than an issue with the computer itself. If you are a user who is on the go constantly, you may want to invest in a second battery, although for average purposes I think the battery life is just fine (easily 4-5 hours of use on a charge, with far longer standby/sleep time). I had to go to the AMD web site and install Catalyst, so if you game or use demanding graphics software, you'll want to do that first thing.

Other Thoughts: Considering the processor, graphics, memory, and extremely well-designed case, this computer is a fantastic buy. Highly recommended. If you're like me and have been hesitant to purchase a laptop as your primary computer, this could be the answer whether you're a high end productivity / design user, a gamer, or just want to be able to watch videos and listen to music while you surf the web. It's taken everything I can throw at it with zero problems and runs like a dream. Of course you can spend a LOT more money and get a better laptop but if you want a solution that's very well-priced, the Z585 is definitely the best bang for the bucks.
