4 out of 5 eggsVery Solid Laptop

Pros: After my last laptop (an HP) died because of heat-related issues, it was a huge relief to find that even when I'm gaming on this laptop, it doesn't get so hot that I could burn myself. The specs are outrageous for the price. Lenovo also seems to go easy on the bloatware, which is a nice surprise. After replacing the hard drive and starting fresh, the driver installation was not troublesome at all.

Cons: Lenovo's "hybrid drive" solution was not as fast as I thought it would be. It uses a 5400rpm platter with a 60GB SSD cache - they are completely seperate drives, controlled by software to look and act as one hard drive (I did not realize this at first). I also had some weird issues with Chrome that I could not solve until I replaced the hard drive and started over from scratch.

Other Thoughts: To those of you disappointed in the Hybrid Drive, I recommend just replacing the platter drive with an SSD - I have a Crucial M4 in now and it is almost twice as fast. If you have data on the platter drive you need, you have to "unlink" the Hybrid Drive in order to get at it - I did not realize this until I had already installed my SSD and wiped the existing mini-SSD clean. There are instructions from Lenovo on this somewhere in their forums I believe, but I am having trouble finding it again.

I'm only giving this 4 stars because if I had a second chance, I'd probably buy a Y580 without the hybrid drive, and either get one with an SSD or one with a regular drive that I end up replacing with an SSD of my choosing. If you are a performance-freak, the hybrid drive will probably disappoint you.

3 out of 5 eggsHard drive bricked after a week.

Pros: Incredibly lightweight despite its power. Was able to run Borderlands 2 on high graphics with hardly any slowdown. It never went above a comfortable temperature while running, either. I'm mentioning this in past tense because...

Cons: The hard drive completely failed after a week of normal use. It stopped being recognized as a bootable device, unable to recover it. Completely bricked. The only forewarning of this was that it was unable to recognize the hard drive once or twice before, but a restart would fix that.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performance

Pros: You'll find a lot of relevant pros already mentioned in previous comments. The laptop boots fast, runs well, and the build feels rock solid. No matter what I throw at it, it takes it in stride(Crysis, SC2, BL2, etc.) Very happy with the purchase.

Cons: So far, nothing significant. Some strange features like a hybrid drive, but nothing worth complaining about.

Other Thoughts: I'll try to remember to re-comment if the laptop fails. There is a movie button at the top which makes the colors deeper and the sound richer. It is not possible to customize though.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Deal

Pros: This laptop boots up very quickly. My friend just bought an Asus G75VW with amazing specs but my laptop still boots up 3-4 times faster. The Rapiddrive technology works rather well for booting up, powering down and opening new programs. The SSD is a Samsung msata drive so you can gain user control of it by reloading Windows. This is definitely an awesome package all in one. I have yet to test the gaming abilities of this laptop but I hope to soon.

Cons: It is a bummer that users can't control the SSD but the technology works so it really isn't needed by most people. The touchpad does take some getting used to. The buttons are part of the touchpad which is something I'm not used to. The speakers are pretty good but my last one had better speakers- just a testament to the quality of my Toshiba's speakers (one of the reasons I bought the Toshiba). I wish the Function button was close to the volume and screen brightness buttons so I could adjust them with one hand. Turning off the backlight on the keyboard can be done with one hand, which is nice.

3 out of 5 eggsTouchpad does not work!

Pros: Very fast great price for the specs. Awesome graphics card.

Cons: Mouse buttons are part of the touch pad! Every time I right or left click it moves the mouse, what the heck where they thinking. Glossy Mirror Screen great to check your hair not so much for work.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

Pros: Intel I7 3610M, 8Gig RAM, 750Gig HDD, 64Gig SSD HD, GTX 660M 2Gig video memory, Backlit keyboard, (2) USB 3.0, (2) USB 2.0, Intel Turbo Boost, Suprisingly good speakers for a laptop

Cons: The hard drives are not separated: you are not getting a 64Gig SSD and a 750Gig HDD. Instead Lenovo's Rapiddrive techonology manages what programs go on which hard drive.

Other Thoughts: All in all a teriffic package: probably the best $999.00 laptop on the market. Boots in under 20 seconds! It would be nice if it was all SSD, but then it wouldn't be $999.00! Did I mention that it is very quiet? Great speakers for a laptop and a very nice touchpad.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

Pros: - Very snappy. The 8GB of RAM, Core i7, SSD and GTX 660 make this laptop really quick.

- Nice keyboard. The backlight is a nice feature and it's easy to turn on and off. It's very comfortable. I also like the mute button -- makes it easy to ensure quietness when I boot up at school.

- Plenty of USB ports. Two of them are USB 3.0, good for a big external drive kept at home. I don't know if four ports is pretty standard or not by my last laptop had only two and it was a pain. This is much better.

- Onboard speakers are surprisingly good for a laptop.

- DOUBLE-WIDTH LEFT SHIFT KEY. Maybe it's just because I'm Canadian but I have a really hard time finding English keyboards now. Most are French and have the shift key chopped in half. It's a small thing but a huge annoyance, for me at least. The shift key more than makes up for the fact that the arrows and numpad are mashed together on this keyboard.

Cons: - The brushed metal finish gets smudgy pretty quickly.

- The layout of the right side of the keyboard takes some getting used to

- The computer is heavier than I was expecting (5.9 kg, compared to my toshiba satellite which is 2.4kg).

These are all minor and I'm not docking an egg because of them.

Other Thoughts: I couldn't find another laptop with so much in one package for a comparable price. The RAM, the CPU, the graphics chip, the hard drive... and it's a Lenovo computer so I have no worries about the hardware quality.

I'm a software developer/student and my last computer (Core i3, 4gb ram, intel graphics) could barely run the software I needed to do my job and my schoolwork (dreamweaver, apache, mysql, visual studio, sql server, IIS, eclipse, several browsers; most of the time all of this at once as I switch tasks). This laptop has no problem handling everything -- so if you're a developer and/or comp sci student, this is a great laptop that won't disappoint at a reasonable price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Value!

Pros: Great laptop. Runs everything I throw at it on the highest settings with little to no issues. I haven't noticed any loud fan noises or other issues some have mentioned.

Cons: It's a performance laptop, so of course it gets hot, but that's what cooling pads are for.

Other Thoughts: Threw in my own SSD to replace the only thing plaguing this Laptop (the 5400 RPM HD). It's a beast with pure SSD.

4 out of 5 eggsvery good but a fan noise

Pros: A very good budget gaming laptop.

Cons: I deducted one star because when I started it up there was an annoying ticking noise coming from the fan. I've owned/worked with a lot of brand laptops and this is the first I've heard of a ticking noise coming from a laptop. I thought it might have been because the fan hadn't spun in a while and needed to run. After 2 hours running in the house it still ticked. RMA thoughts came to mind. However, since I live in Dallas and it was 100 degrees outside, I decided to let it run outside for a couple of hours and see if I can encourage the oil in the fan to thin and spread. That worked and 2 weeks later it is running well and as expected. Btw, others have complained about the fan noise out of the box and there is one video on youtube. One point deduction for the quality control on the fan lubrication but other than that I've very happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsLenovo does it again! :D

Pros: - OS (Windows 7 Home premium) runs blazingly fast on the hybrid HDD+SSD drive.

- Many games run at max settings (Crysis 2, BF3, ANY MMORPG, and mmofps..etc) atleast at 35 FPS solid. All thanks to the GTX 660m!

-Rapiddrive technology is actually fairly decent at managing what programs get put onto the ssd and wht stays on the HDD.

- Cheapest price for this laptop i have seen yet. ($1070 as of August 27 2012).

-Fantastic price-to-performance ratio. ( Id be paying 2 grand for an apple competitor)

Cons: -SSD and HDD are NOT seperated, if you thought you were getting a 750 GB hdd, and a 64 GB ssd, you were wrong. HOWEVER, you are getting a very decent hybrid drive, with a controllable HDD in terms of wht you can put in it, and an ssd portion built into the HDD, that places commonly used programs in it to speed of run times (not controllable).

Other Thoughts: -REMEMBER FUTURE BUYERS, THE GTX 660m is LEAGUES better than any of the GT series mobile cards! (Dont make the same mistake buyers love making, they see a nvidea GT 650m, NOT GTX <--The "x" is vital, it indicates high end in this generation!)

- The GT 650m for comparison runs crysis 2 at max, at 11 FPS.

-Some exceptions to what i said in the PROS section: METRO 2033 at ultra is ~20-25 fps, Crysis on ultra at 25-35 fps.

^keep in mind most desktops cant run these two games that well, at the same price point lol xD

-The hybrid drive is actually good! :D Lenovo's rapiddrive technology does a good job tracking wht should stay on the HDD and wht should be transferred to the ssd. And therefore, i wont be docking a star for the SSD not being manually controllable in terms of wht you choose to put on it.

- The entertainment pack is meh at best, and the US deal for this laptop is better 999.99 (no pack though).
