5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop - at an excellent price point

Pros: Since I actually own this - I hope this brief review helps - This laptop is amazing for the money - about 2.5 years ago this laptop would have easily cost close to $2500 - The power that this thing exhibits is incredible - I use it mainly for gaming - However, last year for grad school I had to do a massive video editing project - I mean it was huge - This thing ate it up - Swappable drive bays is cool - I also bought a blu ray drive for this thing - read Notebook check review of this laptop - That's why I bought it - Lenovo actually ran out of this model for several months - completely sold out!

Cons: super - duper horrible mouse pad - but who honestly, games with a mousepad - A con I can live with.

Other Thoughts: you need a good laptop cooler - the one I bought at neweeg as a Cooler master cooler for something like $18 - I beleive they still sell it - wow its quiet and cool - works awesome - noticed a big difference when not using it - Baby this laptop and it will last you the next 6-7 years easily - Also the backlit red keyboards is wicked cool - Just over all a great machine

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Gaming Laptop for its Price

Pros: I had a 32GB SSHD which allowed quick booting times with the new UEFI bios system. I received mines with Windows 8, but upgraded to Windows 8.1 which improved stability. This beefy laptop has been able to handle all the games I've thrown at it and more. It has a crisp 1080p screen with great brightness and the LED keyboards really help make a difference for typing or pressing.

Cons: The only two cons I would say are the battery and weight. The laptop is quite heavy and can pose difficult to carry around, also battery doesn't last very long even in different save modes.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a much recommended gaming laptop that looks great and can handle all your needs. Finally, the price is amazing compared to what other manufacturers charge.

1 out of 5 eggsIn A Word

Pros: Attractive and loaded with good stuff.

Cons: Junk!!! Not only must a system look good and have good specs it must perform well also. This machine isn't worth the time it takes to start it up.

Other Thoughts: Still working on the refund aspect to this transaction. This machine is unworthy of distribution as a gaming notebook, or any other purpose for that matter.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Specifications/Price is unbeatable, wanted to write review to explain 2 things that Newegg has not put on their features/Spec List. I ordered the 16gb version, instead of a 8 gb sshd I got the biggest one, 24 gb sshd installed. Second the spec list has backlit keyboard saying NO, this version does have a backlit red keyboard. Sooo not only was I expecting a great computer for the price, I got a better computer than what I thought I was going to get for the price.

Cons: It does get hot, recommend buy a laptop cooler, this is a desktop replacement, not a ****** apple product so it will get hot.

Other Thoughts: You have done your research, you have looked at benchmarks, compared prices, looked at all features list. Buy the one I got, dual 755m's,16gb ram, 24gb sshd. it will change your mind about gaming laptops.(I always build my own gaming desktops, but if consistent products at this price point are being delivered I will stick with laptops). every other laptop has lower specs for more money. and FYI a single 800 series card will not beat these 2 in sli.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Product, Junk Service, Junk Company

Pros: Specs are good

Cons: Everything else

Other Thoughts: This is the most I've ever spent on a piece of junk. I bought the dual graphics model and was hoping that it'd be a quality machine for the amount of money I paid for it. I did my research and even went to the store to check it out multiple times before I made my purchase. It looks well built and runs fast enough for daily use. But underneath that black brushed aluminum-looking shell, it's a piece of garbage. This is my 2nd one since Lenovo had to replace my 1st. Now with the 2nd, I have a bunch of issues with it that are completely different than the 1st. Hmm... no way Lenovo could send me 2 defective pieces of junk. The 1st Y510p I had spent over 72 cumulative hours on the phone with Lenovo tech support and even allowed them to access my machine so they could "troubleshoot" it. After realizing each tech support person just did the same exact thing as the last, I got fed up and asked to send it in for repairs. I sent it in twice and it came back with the same issue every time. After the second, I wanted a refund, but was told that I could only get 60% of my purchase amount refunded and I would have to return the machine on my cost. So, I chose the other option to receive a replacement machine and... SURPRISE... another piece of junk. Now I have to waste weeks of my life getting this one fixed and probably will end up just throwing it out the window.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: * Dual GPUs in SLI (Playing most everything in Ultra, Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Witcher 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Farcry 3. I don't have Crysis so can't speak to that series, but it plays everything I've thrown at it in ultra High Def)
* I-7 (Flys when I'm doing spreadsheet / macro work)
* 16GB RAM (You can never have enough)
* Great screen, full 1080, (clear, works fine perpendicular next to my window in home office. No washout)
* 10 key on the laptop (last one didn't have that and I really missed it)
* 8.1 Windows. Amazingly. I thought I'd hate this. Spent about 2 hours removing most of Lenovo's software and then hopped on the net to figure out how to configure windows 8.1 to look like 7. Almost seamless now and I actually prefer the new home icon in my taskbar. Never used 8.0, but if you know how to uninstall extraneous programs and how to configure windows with some guides, don't let 8.1 scare you off.
* Touch pad. Rarely use it, but do like the some of the features like multi touch, tap anywhere, and 1 vs 2 finger tap.

Cons: * Touch pad. Rarely use it (connected wireless mouse at desk), but really hate dragging my hand across it. Sometimes less sensitive than I'd like but better than my old HP elite.

Other Thoughts: * Heat. Not a huge deal as some other reviews. I'd expected really bad heat. Paired it with a Cooler Master note-pal x-slim. No major heat issues. Keyboard stays comfortable, games fly. After a bit, it can get warm, but nothing that rises to the level of discomfort that you want to quit. I *don't* play games on my couch, so heat there isn't an issue, that may get some folks though that do, if it's plugged in and running hard. Works fine for net surfing and working with it in my lap. Probably wouldn't need the X-slim, but I've got it, so I'm using it.
* Great screen, solid laptop as you'd expect from Lenovo. No issues no problems. Newegg is great and thorough like always. Shipping was fast and on time. I was looking for a laptop I could work on, but also game with. Didn't want to spend 1,700+ to get a gaming laptop. Thought I'd take a chance with this. Good choice. It's a solid gaming contender with the dual GPUs in SLI. Highly recommended.
* Last thought. Spend the time to clean up 8.1, remove Lenovo's yard trash, and configure it to look like 7. I actually prefer this setup to my old Win7 laptop. NEVER thought I'd say that given some of what I'd read.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Price

Pros: The Y510P is a great, powerful laptop with a lot of storage and speed. I've been able to do everything I need to do with it with only minor issues (see the Cons). I rarely play any games, but I tried STO on max settings and it ran great. I use an external 27" monitor so I can't really comment on the laptop screen. I tried it for a while with the built in screen and it seems like it's pretty good, but I didn't use it long enough to really say much about it.

I like the keyboard and the fact that it's backlit is an added bonus. The brightness can be changed from 2 brightness settings along with off. It was useful when I was working on a website in the dark (just to try out the backlit feature, lol).

The included facial recognition software is a nice touch for when you're using the laptop screen. It's really fast to recognize you and get you logged in. Of course, if you use an external monitor like I do, it's not that helpful.

Cons: **I have to say, this thing is super heavy for a laptop. I was really surprised at how heavy it really is.

**The bezel around the screen is huge for a new machine. My wife's old HP's bezel is less than half the width of this one.

**The touchpad is really not so great. I started using an external mouse bc I was having so many issues with the sensitivity of the touchpad. Sometimes it seems to be overly sensitive, and others - not at all.

**I've also been having issues with the entire computer freezing up for up to a minute or two at a time. I've read online that it's an issue with the Intel rapid store software, but I haven't found a good fix yet as nothing I've tried has fixed it.

**I had some serious issues trying to install a purchased version of Office 2013. The computer has a trial pre-installed which wouldn't fully uninstall and let me install the new copy. I had to go through some forums and find a manual method of removing the pre-installed software. It was kind of a pain.

**There is a bunch of bloatware that needs to be uninstalled right out of the gate, but that's a personal issue I think.

Other Thoughts: I was a little off on my timing of this purchase as the Newegg price dropped $50 a week after I got it, but that was just bad luck.

Newegg's shipping was spot on and quick as usual.

4 out of 5 eggsNormally a desktopper, but discovered a new love for laptops :)

Pros: Fast for a laptop; I play games like WoW and Diablo 3 on my desktop normally, and had been hesitant in the past about laptop gaming, but now I've got a speedy laptop for good gaming on the go :)

Cons: Hated that it came with Windows 8 and all the garbage-class excessive programs that come with it, personally I prefer Windows 7 but I'm sure over time I'll get used to it!

Other Thoughts: Only a thank you for breaking me out of my desktop-gaming shell so I can game on the go when I'm visiting friends that play the same games as I do :)
