What is the red dot on the keyboard?

Short answer, it is another way to use the mouse. Imagine a small rubber dot, that when lightly pressed in the direction you want the mouse to move, it moves.

It works very well, not sure why other companies don't use it. A big benefit is having the ability to move the mouse with out moving the hands from the home row keys.

does this machine run windows 7?

Yes!  It comes with Windows 7 installed with a disc containing Windows 8 if you want it.  I stayed with Windows 7 Professional.

My agency management system only runs on Windows 7 yet this says it has Window 8 as well.

So I am confused. Already bought a Surface Pro before I realized it was Windows 8 and my system would ONLY accept Windows??

It comes with a windows 8 upgrade disk free of charge .  The windows 8 is not installed.  I work in medicine and nothing works with win8 yet so all things must have win7.

Does the laptop come with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point?

Short answer: no

It comes with a limited trial of office, actually anyone can get the crappy office 365 or office 2010 etc for a trial.  Then Microsoft wants your credit card 30 days later.

If you opt for 356 you'll never ever stop paying for it....

Does the lenovo E540 windows 7 support the touch screen?

No.  I'm told Windows 8 will but I don't know if the hardware will.

Does this have a TPM chip?

has small electric as you are typing tried to get it addressed but the return to them would entail their keeping the laptop for minimum of 1 wk which was unfeasible for me, and repair locally was the same problem.

Is this really a quad-core processor? Other sites selling what appears to be the same product state that it is a dual-core.

It is a dual-core with hyper-threading, so four threads.

If you google search for "Intel Core i5-4200M 2.5GHz" the Intel specs will come up (NewEgg won't let me link)

This chip is geared more for mobile, and energy efficiency.

I've seen some similar models that have fingerprint readers built in for security, and I think I see one in the pictures for this model as well but it's not labeled. Does this laptop have that capability?

I want to buy a replacement charger. Which charger is the one that comes with this laptop (i.e. what is it listed as on Newegg?)? I can't find it anywhere on Newegg or Lenovo's own website. Thanks!
