1 out of 5 eggs"If it looks to good to be real..."

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Very fast boot up. Great graphics. Handles all my games without any hiccups.

Cons: Well, I bought this item from Newegg 10/20/2014. The laptop will no longer boot up and only the macro keys on the keyboard work.

Other Thoughts: My first warning with this company should have been that they have NO phone support. They only have web based customer email. I have begun the process of getting this laptop RMA'd with this company. If this turns out to be a hassle, then thank goodness I used my AMEX.

It is a shame that this product has only been used for about a month and is now an expensive brick. I will go through the company's process and will return back and let you know how it went. Either I will be happy with their service or AMEX will refund me back my money.

This is the first time I have ever had an issue with something of this expense purchased from Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsConfused

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Shipped in One Day (extra fee but worth it)

The laptop itself was quite an adjustment and I was happy with it and I still am, its wicked fast and boots up in a mind blowing amount of time compared to what I was using before this. (Compaq Presario CQ57) And games like a beast.

Cons: SSD Issues:

Relatively new to the whole SSD thing but I keep getting errors like "volume inaccessible" and I'm not really sure how to fix it, not to mention when I play some games I get a BSOD (DPS_Watchdog_violation) or something like that, right now I'm annoyed and trying to fix it, not sure if it's my hardware yet but the SSD's keep failing at different times like it's not the same one over and over.

Other Thoughts: Annoyed

4 out of 5 eggsAorus x7

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: I owned this about a week. It is really fast. I has a great sturdy all metal case and the screen looks good because there is no glare and you can see it from reasonable angles. There are 3 ssd's, but they were grouped into a raid drive for drive C:.

Cons: It died after about a week. It would not boot and I could not get into the bios. I started to get errors from one of the ssd's after a few days. Newegg has now sent a new one that I will be using. Returns from them are great. I got really good customer service.

I tried to register my product on the Aorus website and go now where. It is a bad way to go. Their web site did not recognize my S/N. and I never got it registered. Maybe with this new one it will happen....to be determined. I have not taken it out of the box yet for trial 2.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for.

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: For $2,300, this laptop is a BEAST. Seriously, nothing can touch it at this price range. I really love everything about this laptop. It's powerful, lightweight, powerful, beautifully designed, and did I mention it's powerful?

Cons: Unfortunately it's not without it's flaws. I've seen people complain about the screen and I did notice it was different at first than my other 13 inch 1080p laptop that I was used to, but maybe that was just the size.

My main issues are with the hardware. The screws, FYI are #6 Torx screws so unless you already have one of those, good luck getting it open if you have an issue.
My issues are stemming from where one of the 3 SSDs connect to the motherboard. It runs just fine until I try to restart it, then it will automatically go to the BIOS, and further inspection shows that it can not see one of the SSDs. Of course because they are in raid 0, if one fails none of them work because the data is split across all 3. Super crazy fast, but not as reliable. The reason it can't see that particular SSD (which I found out through literally pressing on parts of it with my finger and pressing the power button to see if it would get past the BIOS screen and load windows) is because the part that connects the SSD to the Motherboard is not correctly seated somehow. Very annoying, but I can make it work I guess.

Another issue I discovered is parts seem to be very cheaply made in general. For instance, with the back cover off the frame of the laptop is very delicate, specifially where the motherboard ends and the battery begins because it doesn't have that circuit board for support. Another example is when I was fiddling with the SSD I had the laptop open right side up and the battery literally fell out, there's nothing holding it in at all. This actually broke some of the wires off of the connector that connects the battery tot he MOBO.

Other Thoughts: I'm lucky enough to not only be sufficiently skilled to fix this myself with limited tools (A Gerber multitool and a torx screwdriver), but that the issues I've had have not been worse (unfixable) I would have already RMAed it but I'm currently deployed with 3 months left so it would take far longer than I'm willing to wait right now, I'll probably do it when I get back home.

5 out of 5 eggsSold Performer

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Compared to other similar laptops that match features, price neighborhood, and size the Aorus X7-v2-CF1 laptop is hard to beat.

When compared to competitors, it comes with faster RAM, the ability to increase ram up to 32GB, and with the exception of the two 860M GPU's one can potentially upgrade other components.

In regards to build quality, I find the laptop to have a feel one would expect with a 2k+ laptop.

The laptop also does perform as promised with regards to powering multiple monitors without taking a performance hit.

Smooth key presses, no keyboard flex (this has been a fault I found in many other reviews on the web), strong wifi (I expected much less after reading reviews), great display and easy to read even at native resolution. Touchpad works smoothly and offers a nicer surface than most laptops.

Multitasks well, even when working with intensive CAD objects.

Cons: Did not come with an external DVD driver; I knew it was not coming with one, but at it's price it should. DVD's are still relevant.

Runs a tad on the hot side, but still cool enough to sit on your lap and work with. A cool would be recommended.

Corners in the back are slightly rough, resulting in a sharp surface - probably enough to break skin if drug across skin at the wrong angle.

The macro keys are placed in a horrible position for a left-handed person, but I knew this before purchasing.

Other Thoughts: I use the notebook for working with complex CAD objects and it handles the workload fine. I had to open multiple instances of rather large CAD projects to get the notebook to perform under any sort of real-life stress and it did not even flex.

As a desktop/work station replacement, it can hold it's own, and provides the mobility, like some may need. For example, rebuilding my crashed desktop was not feasible because I cannot sit for extended periods of time forcing me to work where I can put my leg up.

I did check into several mobile workstations, but most were bulky and incredibly overpriced for the offered features, so a gaming laptop was the next best thing. I received this Tuesday around 1pm, by 2pm I had the bulk of my software installed, and started working with CAD elements while the installs went on. I've put in 14-16 hour work days, only 4 days, but it;s held up.

I have already recommended this laptop to other co-workers and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid computer that can blaze through games and handle cad work.

If you use it for work, there is no need to spare expense if the notebook is your primary tool.

2 out of 5 eggsHighly Disappointed

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: SLI GTX 680Ms will handle almost anything you throw at it. Some built in software features are nice. Slim design is slick looking. The 3 SSDs in RAID are screaming fast.

Cons: The screen leaves a lot to be desired. Coming off of a Clevo P170EM with a 95% color gamut glossy display, this thing is mediocre at best. There are visible vertical lines on most colors, and it is foggy looking on almost all colors. All that aside, all games were freezing up on me. I tried multiple drivers to no avail. Sometimes it would be every 2 minutes, sometimes every 30 or so minutes, but it always did it. It would freeze for about 2 minutes, spool all of the fans down (can't even alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del out), and then it would just start working again. I tried all sorts of settings (locked framerate, AA off and on, lower resolutions) and checked temps (stayed in normal range for a gaming laptop), and nothing would stop the freezes.

Other Thoughts: I could deal with the loud fans and display, although they were very subpar for this level of laptop, but games not working was the last straw. I mean, it is a gaming laptop after all. I have returned the laptop for a refund and will look for something else.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after having it for a day.

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: GTX 860 x 2 SLI, 16 gigs of ram and a 3 SSD drive raid 0 - It's a beast! At this price point you can't go wrong.

It's slim, isn't as bulky as you'd expect for laptop with these features.

Cons: I was literally able to use this laptop for a day before it died on me. Sadly It will no longer post and is currently in-route back to Newegg for a full refund. The problems started with the network connectivity going in and out both on the LAN and WiFi. After a few hours of this, the laptop abruptly powered off and wouldn't power back on after. I attempted to charge the battery for a few hours but didn't have any luck getting it to post. I'm surprised that this unit wasn't thoroughly tested from the factory, speaks to the lack of QA process in my opinion.

From a gamer's perspective the keyboard is absolute trash. It feels cheap, the plastic is flimsy and the key travel is very low, almost too low to be honest. In addition, it's a condensed keyboard and while that's expected on a laptop, it's compacted a bit too much which makes it awkward for people with slightly larger hands.

Runs really hot, not quite as hot as a macbook pro but still hot none the less and even when the laptop isn't under load. Granted being that it's a low profile laptop, you're not going to get the same cooling as you would a slightly larger model. Another point to take into consideration is that I received a defective unit so it may have contributed to the perceived heating issue.

It's loud. When those fans kick in under load (and even not under load) it's quite noisy. I didn't measure the dB's but it's loud enough to be a bit of an annoyance.

The display is utter trash, it's grainy, has visible vertical lines and is "foggy". It's not a clear display by any means. Most text either in game and or out of game is blurred a bit with a slight presence of ghosting and can definitely cause eye strain after extended use. You'd expect more at this price point but sadly, the Aorus team skimped big time here. Aorus claims that the X7 offers a wider range, brighter color spectrum and while this display wasn't professionally calibrated, out of the box the colors look washed out and is lacking vibrancy.

Compared to a similarly spec'd machine, the Asus G750-JZ, it's a night and day difference. Asus definitely wins in this department.

Other Thoughts: All things considered and overlooking the fact that I received a defective unit, I'm rating this laptop a 3. I've knocked one point off for the cheap, flimsy keyboard & grainy / foggy display and another point for the heating issues.

I sadly wouldn't recommend this laptop to a friend as I feel that for the price, you can get a higher quality laptop for a few hundred dollars less than this laptop.

Aorus, I wish you the best of luck in the future, you have a few things which need to be redesigned in your next model in order to stay present in the gaming community.

2 out of 5 eggsPossible bad batch of laptops

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: - Good horse power under the hood for the asking price

Cons: - Bad QA
- okay screen
- Lowering the star rating due to having received consecutive defective units. I might have given it four had it worked the first tie.

Other Thoughts: I've had to RMA this laptop three times now.

The first one I received had a dead USB port on the left side. The 2nd one I received had some dead pixels in the middle of the screen and the third one I got worked for about a week and then it started having frequent blue screens about memory issues. I decided to run the memory diagnosis tool in windows and it turned out that there were hardware problems and suggested that I send it back for repair.

I just received my forth unit today. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one will actually work.

These turns of events have led me to believe that NewEgg might have received a bad batch of products, or the construction quaility and QA simply aren't there.

It is highly unlikely that the same person can receive three defective units in a row. Beware!

5 out of 5 eggsPurrfect for Gam3r Girlz!

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: I'm a cute gam3r girl and I love this laptop. It's doesn't get too hot and burn my thin smooth thighs lol XD ;) All the latest hard core gamez I have playd on it run AMAZING! XD I steam on Twitch like all the time and the network speed is like totally hmmazin~! I mainly use it to stream Hello Kitty Island Adventures and World of Warcraft. It plays both awesome like! My rating is like 2600 so yeah I'm pro! XD (><)

Cons: I don't think this laptop is Vegan approved. I didn't see anything in the papers that said it was tested on animals so I think it's OK! XD ;) I also doesn't have an Apple Logo on it which is kinda lame. RIP Steve Jobs!

Other Thoughts: Super cool laptop XD XOXOX

5 out of 5 eggsBeast of a Machine

This review is from: Aorus X7V2-CF1 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4860HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M SLI 8GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: The SLI GTX 860's are beastly for a laptop this thin. Looking at ASUS ROG making huge laptops quadruple the thickness with a worse gpu is simply laughable now. if you want a machine to take with you that can run Crysis 3, battlefield 4, and Watch Dogs on ultra, this is the machine you need.

Cons: I haven't seen any yet. the power brick is just that.... a brick. but with a machine this powerful all that power needs to come from somewhere right?
also the battery life while gaming is an hour and a half if you are lucky. but again.... gaming machine, so that makes sense.

Other Thoughts: All in all, there is no other option for me. it runs everything, well. perfectly even. the fans blaze and get loud if you are gaming. but if you are a true gamer like me, you will have headphones on, so that fact is irrelevant.
