5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly

Pros: Easily plug in one cable to access a multitude of devices, including external monitor. Ability to extend display to external monitor instead of just duplicating display. Push-button switching between duplicate view and extended display. Audio, mic, and video connections. Small footprint. Resolutions are good for widescreen and normal size displays.

Cons: This docking station has occasionally hung up on me when coming out of sleep mode. I have had this for about a year and can only recall this happening three times. I was also having troubles with my laptop at the time, so it could have been the culprit. It could charge the laptop too, but how would that be done through a single wire USB connection.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what other reviewers are complaining about, but I love this device. Unfortunately I didn't purchase through the egg (circuit city). I have a 17" Toshiba Satellite that I use the dock with. I have a 19" widescreen LCD, wireless mouse, keyboard, Audio, and mic all connected to this dock. Resolution is right at my LCD external (and the Toshiba) max of 1440 x 900. It makes it simple for me to take my notebook with me, in a hurry. I just unplug it and the software moves all open windows from my extended view back onto the laptop display. No pushing buttons, just unplug the USB cord. Excellent response time for video too, although when gaming I disable external monitor, I do use the hub section for keyboard and mouse though. This is a great device for a person using a laptop as their only, or main computer and would like more screen real estate and USB connections. Good for on-the-go people that don't want to disconnect half dozen cables to pack their laptop away.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid - bad product and bad support

Pros: Has the potential to be a good product but shouldn't have been released to public until all these issues were worked out.

Cons: Unable to display my desktop screen properly.
Software installation corrupted took hours to fix.
Mouse response unreliable.
Numeric keys on keyboard wouldn't work.
No ethernet, DVI, HDMI or component video ports.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to use with my Sony Vaio (widescreen). Tried to install the latest software from the website. It stopped responding half way through and froze the computer. Restarted and tried again. Now an error about an invalid drive and core installer not found. Tried to install from the CD, gave me an error that a service was already running and couldn't be stopped. Finally had to do system restore and start over. Eventually got it installed and connected the device and my peripherals. Connected my desktop monitor, which is a widescreen LCD. Display on the desktop was cut off on both sides. No settings on my laptop would allow it to display the screen correctly as my laptop screen was wider than the desktop screen. Called tech support, and the tech was confrontational and argumentative - told me that there was nothing he could do so I might as well return it. Mouse response was terrible and numeric keys on my keyboard wouldn't work. Returned it and went back to my old docking station.

3 out of 5 eggsNot totally Vista compatible

Pros: Looks like a good product. It gives you the ability to run an additional external monitor at modest resolutions from the USB port as well as a good set of docking station ports.

Cons: Even though it says Vista-certified, this product does NOT work for Vista 64-bit systems. I contacted Kingston tech support and they have no drivers (not even beta) for Vista 64-bit flavors, and they don't have an ETA on when/if they will have them. So, ignore the Vista sticker.

Other Thoughts: Tested on Vista Home Premium 64-bit. You can't run it in a 32-bit emulation mode either.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seems to work fairly well with my Acer 19" widescreen monitor with one USB mouse and audio output also being used through the device. Small footprint is nice too, and it's got enough weight not to be too easily moved around by the cables.

Between this and my laptop's VGA out, I'm easily able to have three screens. Also, Windows XP was able to find the drivers on its own, so setup was easy (and didn't even require the CD).

Cons: Being able to get the 1680x1050 resolution that the monitor and my on-board VGA out support support would have been nice for the investment, but for being so convenient (and having known it wouldn't in advance) I can't really complain.

Other Thoughts: It can get a widescreen resolution of 1440x900, and naturally supports several lower resolution modes. Also, since it's USB, don't expect to see flawless video display, but so far I haven't seen any sort of terribly degraded performance or anything like that.
