As CPU processing power increases, so does the need to remove the damaging heat that increased power generates. Nowhere is this more apparent than with overclocked processorsrunning beyond their original specifications. This case is Intel Socket LGA775 or AMD Socket AM2/939/754), and now Intel Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme Edition Ready! The last thing a computer enthusiast wants when designing their machine, though, is to cap it off with an ugly cooler.

Thermaltake has long led the pack in CPU cooling, with many of its cooling strategies being adopted by others. They develop breakthrough, supremely functional designs with an extra element of style. Its all-copper construction provides maximum efficiency in conducting damaging heat away from the CPU. A group of four heatpipes draw heat upward from the mirror-finished base which lies in perfect contact with the chip.

The array of dissipation fins enables the 110mm fan to easily move 86.5CFM at 2000RPM by creating multiple air intake points. The speed can be adjusted to balance the cooling performance and the already low 24dBA noise level. The blue LED lights within the fan add a stylish glow against the copper surfaces enhancing the appearance of your system.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance Four innovatively-designed copper heatpipes and high-density copper fins maximize heat transfer and dissipation. Plus a 110mm, 2000RPM cooling fan delivers an air flow of up to 86.5 CFM for exceptional cooling performance.
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed The Thermaltake V1 CL-P0401 features a VR fan controller so you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The Thermaltake V1 CL-P0401 features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939 and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggs20° C drop!

Pros: My CPU load temp went down from 66° C to 46° C! Idle dropped from around 50° to 38° or so. Now my computer blows cool air out the top! Also, this cooler is bigger and prettier than it looks in the pictures.

Cons: I really wanted to only give 4 stars because of how hard it was to install, but then my temps dropped 20° and my brain said, "Ding ding ding! 5 Stars!" I haven't figured out how to turn the blue LED light off and that conflicts with my red/black color scheme--but I knew it was blue when I bought it, so that's my fault. I actually like the blue LED now though as it looks like UV when it reflects off of copper mirrors. Also, the cooler fits snuggly, but not so snuggly that I can't slide it around just a little, which could be a problem.

Other Thoughts: I live in Guam and don't use air conditioning. So I'm running this computer in 86° F very humid ambient temps (in a Solano 1000R case, which is just like a small full-tower Antec 900 with a 250mm fan in the side). The CPU fan completed my high air flow plan. If you look my case up, you'll see it's a small full tower (with embedded fan) and I only get 2mm clearance between the heat sink and the side fan.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Air Cooler you will find.

Pros: All copper design with 4 properly placed heatpipes. 2 Fanned out heat dissapation surfaces with 2 heatpipes each. Each fanned out surface on opposite sides of large adjustable speed ball bearing fan.

I have installed this in roughly 200 cases to date and had NO failures on any CPUs. Overclocking on air should be done only with coolers this well constructed. A hot i920 at 4Ghz on air is beyond risky, but not with this heatsink keeping it under 65c with room temp at 80f. Even E8400 hits 3.8Ghz with lots of headroom at 50c. These are peak temps in Prime95 with the CPU's in burn in folks, this fan is serious business.

Cons: Requires a case with nearly 5 inches of space measuring from the top of the CPU to the opposite case wall. Not intended for use in tight mini cases, however bending the ends of the copper fins 90 degrees does NOT affect the cooling overall and can provide up to 1/2 inch more room in tight cases - this is tedius work and requires proper tools to not cut yourself as thin copper is very sharp.

Other Thoughts: I use this in my own rig after having gone through the pain and hassel of liquid cooling on my prior system. The cooling overall is the same for the CPU. If you are wanting something similar for your graphics Zalman makes one much like this with a 90mm fan that has a fan controller as well and is dead silent. As a combonation in a case with even mild airflow you will be silent and cool- Antec P182, Antec 300, Antec 900 cases all dead silent with these installed. Hope you find this useful.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Does a good job cooling. Very good if your ram slots are very close to your processor.

Cons: Will slice your finger in half if not careful. The tension bracket is this most annoying thing in the world. It's a total pain trying to get this thing installed with that cheap bracket. Be prepared to get thermal paste all over the place while you're trying to slide this thing back and forth to get it clamped down.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this cooler because it does work good. After dealing with that annoying bracket you don't want to take it back off. Once you get it on though, it does a pretty good job.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Compared to FreezerPro7 this beast cool down my q9550 from38C to 20C in idle mode.Wath a huge difference.Under load never go above 40C.It has speed adjustment,so put it to1500 rpm and forget about to hear it.Very quiet. You shood see this amazing blue LEDs. I used ArcticSilver5 termal grease to install it - highly recommended.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: The fan is quiet and moves a huge amount of air. The all copper construction not only looks amazing but really keeps my CPU cool. I'm running an Athlon 64 X2 2.8ghz and idling around 28C, with load temps that rarely rise above 33C.

Even when the fan stopped spinning (not a faulty fan issue, a chord just kept it from spinning) the temps were barely breaking 50C under loads.

And for this price? I don't think I could have picked a better cooler for my CPU. I'll definitely keep using it when I upgrade to a quad core soon.

Cons: It is a bit on the large side. My case fan on the side panel barely clears the fins and is probably useless to have right there as it is, but that's not really that big of a down side.

The only other downside was that it came with the row of fins on one side sliiiiiightly askew so that the fan rubbed against them. I don't take an Egg away for this because it was easy enough to gently handle them back into place before installing.

Other Thoughts: I really don't understand why this heatsink isn't rated higher than it is. I recommend it to anyone and everyone I know building a computer that doesn't want a stock heat sink.

5 out of 5 eggsSick Cooler, bad price here

Pros: This thing is sick! Reduced my tes by like 20+ C, no kidding. It looks rather awesome too, if you're into that.

Cons: Not a con wih the product, but I found it at Best Buy for 38 bucks with no shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsProfound improvement cooling my i7 920

Pros: It's shiny and pretty.
It's quiet.
It has good airflow.
It doesn't weigh a ton.
It's copper.
It's socket 1366 adapter provided ZERO hassle for me...

Cons: It's large, so you'll need a case big enough.

The fan speed control isn't long enough for me to route to the outside of my case, let alone in a clean, flush, professional manner. No biggie.

Other Thoughts: I live in a hot place (some call it Hell, others just recognize that 110 F summers are hot). The room with my machine has an ambient temp of anywhere from 80-92 F...so it's hot there too.

Before this fan, I had a supposedly slightly improved Evercool fan/heatsink for the i7, which is a 920, NOT overclocked. My idle temp would only very rarely, and briefly drop below 90. While ripping and encoding video, I would consistently reach and sustain temperatures above 170, often reaching 182. Hot.

I am using a Coolermaster HAF 932 case, which I'm confident provides good airflow.

Since installing this fan, I idle at ambient temperature, or maybe only a couple of degrees above (if I start early in the morning, it idles at 71!) Ripping and encoding I have yet to exceed 122. HUGE IMPROVEMENT.

I only use Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

I'm confident I could safely overclock now.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best invesment I made

Pros: Easy to install on an AM2+ socket. My computer was shutting down because of heat issues with stock fan. Installed this fan. Idle 24.5. less than 30 C loaded. On stock it was 50 C idle and it kept going up until shutting down because of old case and not the best spot on the house.

Cons: NONE. I am happy.

5 out of 5 eggsBest CPU fan I've ever had.

Pros: Best CPU fan I've ever had. I've been using this cooler for years now in all the Ps I build.

It brought my PC from 55-60 degress (stock) Celsiusto (which was unacceptable) to 25 to 35 degress Celsius.

Cons: Very big. Doesn't work in all cases.
I got cut on the blades a lot installing it in several PCs.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Cooling performance (but needs good air-flow)

Pros: If you have good case airflow, cooling performance is amazing. (52C prime95 load 4cores, Phenom II X4 at 3.3Ghz OC, when computer case is opened. 62C with close case).
FAN speed at low 1300RPM is quiet, althought not completely silent.

Cons: 3-pin CPU Fan connector, so fan speed will not throttle on (most) 4-pin CPU fan motherboards.

FAN speed at medium 1600RPM is kinda loud, and 2000RPM is way too loud.
(However, 1300RPM is sufficient even for OCing, so this is not really an issue)

Other Thoughts: Much better temperatures than stock AMD heatsink fan or my worthless TR2-R1 heatsink fan (which is worst than stock). The design of this heatsink seems to really benefit from good air flow. (Air flow affects cooling much more than its fan speed)

I took extra steps to improve this heatsink's performance, and temperature dropped about 10'C.

I lapped the CPU and the copper base of this V1 heatsink with wet 400&600 grit sandpaper. I used Artic Silver 5 between the cpu and heatsink base. I unscrewed and opened up the top portion of the heatsink (above the heatpipes) and put the included thermal paste between the ridges of the heatpipes.

Before I used the included white thermal paste instead of artic silver, didn't lap the V1 heatsink base (my cpu was already lapped flat), and put too way much thermal paste between the heatpipes.
