As CPU processing power increases, so does the need to remove the damaging heat that increased power generates. Nowhere is this more apparent than with overclocked processorsrunning beyond their original specifications. This case is Intel Socket LGA775 or AMD Socket AM2/939/754), and now Intel Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme Edition Ready! The last thing a computer enthusiast wants when designing their machine, though, is to cap it off with an ugly cooler.
Thermaltake has long led the pack in CPU cooling, with many of its cooling strategies being adopted by others. They develop breakthrough, supremely functional designs with an extra element of style. Its all-copper construction provides maximum efficiency in conducting damaging heat away from the CPU. A group of four heatpipes draw heat upward from the mirror-finished base which lies in perfect contact with the chip.
The array of dissipation fins enables the 110mm fan to easily move 86.5CFM at 2000RPM by creating multiple air intake points. The speed can be adjusted to balance the cooling performance and the already low 24dBA noise level. The blue LED lights within the fan add a stylish glow against the copper surfaces enhancing the appearance of your system.

Incredible performance
- Pros: I have a full tower case from 1995 that I refuse to get rid of (it has all my stickers on it!) so it's not designed for any kind of air cooling. My Athlon X2 5600+ 85W ran from 50c-65c and the stock fan made way too much noise. I installed this and the temps now sit near 38c-50c. Fan noise, on max, is negligible (spins at 1200rpm on max setting at idle, can go higher if need be).
- Cons: It is large and was difficult to install. I had to remove my power supply to be able to install the mounting lever and had a difficult time getting the connector onto the motherboard (had to do the "grab the wire and try to push it on" technique). Since you only install this once in a while it was worth the effort. Also, the thing does not tell you which way the air blows so I had to turn it on once to find out (the air blows towards the side with the wires).
awesome!
- Pros: Excellent cooler!! Tt has outdone themselves again with the V1. I've already loved their coolers since the Golden Orb and Chrome Orb days (ah.. the good old days..)
I bought the V1 to replace my Zalman 9700 cooler, and the CPU (X2 6000+) temperature dropped 6C (idle) and 5C (full). Awesome!! Can be a little loud on the highest fan speed (but that's true on any coolers).
- Cons: Can't think of any at this point.
- Other Thoughts: A must have for any systems!!

NOT ENOUGH COOLING FOR AN i7!!!!
- Pros: *All Copper
*Fan Speed Control *Size
- Cons: *TEMPERATURES
*PRICE *PERFORMANCE *PUSH PIN INSTALLATION
- Other Thoughts: -i7 920 @ 3.8
-Asus P6t (has holes for LGA 775 & 1366 coolers) -Cooler Master CM690 Case -2 BFG GTX 260's SLI -3 120mm & 3 140mm case fans
After trying to take the easy way out and not have to remove my mobo for a heatsink upgrade I decided to give the Thermaltake V1 a try:
*The push pin installation was horrible for me. I got 3 pins secured 1 pops out... It took an hour and 3 bleeding knuckles to secure the 4 pins.
*Once I finally got the heatsink seated I had no confidence that it was seated properly.
*Running Prime 95: 2.6 Ghz 90c in about 7 minutes 3.2 Ghz 90c in about 3 minutes.
*Reinstalled the heatsink a total of 4 times because I thought the push pins weren't set and the temps were so high.
*Same exact temperatures with reseated heatsink.
*Wasted money on loud high CFM fans cause I thought airflow was the problem. It wasn't.
*Returned the cooler

Very good, not 5 eggs though
- Pros: -Fits in my Antec 300
-Blue LED might look cool for those with windows (I do not) -I find that low speed works just as well as high speed -Very very quiet at low speed -Installation not that difficult once I took mobo out of case -Unique design that doesn't get in the way of other components -Very quick to cool down after stress test -Temps are cooler than stock
- Cons: -Do not like the manual fan speed control, although it can be disconnected
-Very difficult to install if you don't take the mobo out of the case -Fins are pretty flimsy -Don't see the gains that people speak of. Temp was ~3C cooler to that of stock fan, although much quieter than stock -Instructions were junk, but you should all know how to install fans at this point -
- Other Thoughts: AMD Phenom X4 9950 BE
ASUS M3A78 Pro Antec 300 Case with extra intake fan added to front OCZ DDR2-800 in dual channel mode, 2x2GB DIMMs 3 SATA HDD 1 SATA Optical Drive OCZ 500W PSU
Great cooler
- Pros: This cooler has performed extremely well for me for over 18 months now. I used it with my am2 6000+ and now use it with my am3 955 black edition. In both cases it drops my temps on average about 9-10c from stock cooling.
It is easy to install, and even looks pretty darn cool in the case. I pair it with mx-2 thermal paste and I get great results.
I originally used this cooler over others because I had a hard time finding one to fit in my case. (ram height issues, tall heat spreaders) This fits easily, blows air towards the back outtake fan in my case and just does an outstanding job.
Those writing negative reviews simply cannot be using it correctly, I have been extremely satisfied with this cooler.
- Cons: Tall, not a con, just an issue with smaller cases. Fits easily in my Antec 1200, but in mid tower and smaller cases fit could be an issue.
- Other Thoughts: Simply a fantastic cooler.
