Rosewill continues its commitment to being "the best choice in value" by producing CPU cooling products with high end performance without the high-end price. Part of Rosewill's "Z" series designed specifically for Intel processors, the RCX-Z200 performs comparable to higher-priced units but at a fraction of the price. The long life 92mm red fan spins at 2200 RPM allowing it to move over 48 CFM of cooling air while generating a noise level of 20 dBA.

The fan sits atop a large aluminum heatsink with a full copper base designed to maximize heat transfer from the CPU's heat spreader. The large area of the cooling fins enables rapid diffusion of damaging heat in the propwash of the fan. Its tool-less clip installation feature makes it quick and easy to securely install the RCX-Z200 onto an Intel Pentium 4 processor using the PGA or Prescott 3.2 / Socket 478 format.

  • newegg Excellent Cooling Performance The copper base and high-density aluminum fins optimize heat dissipation. Plus a 92mm, 2200RPM cooling fan delivers an air flow of up to 48.4 CFM for exceptional cooling performance.
  • newegg Easy Installation The Rosewill RCX-Z200 features tool-less clips for convenient installation without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.

4 out of 5 eggsAcceptable

Pros: Good force applied to CPU case, decent looking, good cooling.

Cons: Arrived with a broken retention clip. Clips are hard to push down and latch.

Other Thoughts: Kudos to New Egg for instant correction of defective part.
Not sure what the Rosewill Z is about, and the sticker gladly flaked off by itself.
Comes with a thermal paste applied (which I removed to use my own.)
Still good cooling after toning the fan way down with a controller.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent for keeping an old relic going.

Pros: Great for replacing an aging Pentium 4 socket 478 HSF. Overall its very quiet compared to a stock cooler and with the bright red fan it looks pretty cool too. The biggest Pro is that newegg warehouse has got a ton of these. And they are very inexpensive.

Cons: Not sure if its a con or not but mine only lasted about 3 years of average use. I didn't wait for it to quit working though so it might have went a while longer. If you run your socket 478 system 24/7 as a server or something else mission critical you might consider something a bit more high end. If you can find anything.

Other Thoughts: Considering the age of socket 478 cpus and the fact there are some of us that hold onto our hardware as long as we possibly can, I'm grateful to both Newegg and Rosewill for helping keep things running smoothly.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Peasy

Pros: Inexpensive
Easy install
Works well
Thermal paste included and preinstalled

Cons: Probably could have better or less paste, but if you need better cooling on an old 478 socket you should probably just get a new PC

Other Thoughts: I was attempting to eliminate some of the noise being generated by my old PC. I don't use it much, but for how little this cost, it was worth throwing this cooler in.

I'm not sure what the people who say this is difficult to install are doing. Perhaps they have much smaller cases than my MidATX, but I did not need to remove the fan and I had absolutely no difficulty working the clips. Very little force required and definitely no worries about breaking the stock cooler mounting or motherboard.

Idle temps are 48 degrees and 58 max Prime95 with both threads at 100%. Not bad for a 3.0ghz Prescott.

All in all very happy with this purchase for my old kit. Now I just need to find something to do with it.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet Cooler

Pros: Low price. Quiet. Looks Nice. it keeps the CPU cool. Awesome.

Cons: None so far. it only cools older CPUs, but the con is that i cannot get those older parts. I was surprised I found this one.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for an old computer someone gave me. I pulled the Micro-ATX board out of the previous desktop case and paired it with a nicer Rosewill mini tower case and SeaSonic PSU. The original cooler was loud. So I bought this one and now it cools the CPU on my pfSence firewall/router. I cannot hear this machine other than the air flowing. Added red LED so my firewall glows red.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does a good job cooling my 3GHz P4 Prescott HT. It's not too loud, the heatsink moves heat and the fan moves air. It's easy to install as well.

Cons: While not worth removing an egg, it does come with a bit too much thermal paste. You'd probably be better off cleaning it off and applying some other thermal paste before installing.

Other Thoughts: While some recommend removing the motherboard from the case, or removing the fan from the top of the heatsink, (most of the time) that shouldn't be necessary. I found it very easy to install. Note it can be easy to incorrectly position the heatsink or the clips; make sure the clips fit inside (not on top of) the spaces on the side of the heatsink.

1 out of 5 eggsWill not cool CPU

Pros: Has a pretty red fan.

Cons: My CPU is a Intel 3.4GHz mounted on an Intel D865GVHZ mother board. Idling, the temp was 50 centigrade. I removed the CPU and reapplied the cooling paste, but the temp was the same. I ran my antivirus software and within several minutes the computer over heated and shut down. Now I will be buying another CPU cooler. Also, this CPU was very difficult to instal and remove, I was afraid that my motherboard was going to crack.

Other Thoughts: This fan may work for a slower CPU that doesn't generate as much heat but I would not recommend it.

3 out of 5 eggsOkay; could be more quiet

Pros: Reasonable price; value is good. Great replacement fan if original broken.

Cons: Don't find the fan to be much if any quieter than the stock Intel fan for my 478 2.8G P4.

Other Thoughts: Would not have purchase if knew that it was the same sound as old fan. I think it may be the bearings and not the blades. Regardless, going to send back.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what the doctor ordered

Pros: The price tag was just right and this is MUCH quieter than the stock Intel heatsink I have been using in this computer for the past 10 years. I couldn't have asked for an easier install. It even came with its own thermal compound "patch."

Cons: I guess it could be more silent, but most certainly not for its $10 price tag.

Other Thoughts: The computer I purchased this for was delegated to a secondary system about four years ago. I have dreaded every time I had to boot it up because it was like a jet airplane taking off. But instead of flying away it would remain, just getting louder and louder. It amazes me that I've lived with the noise of the stock heatsink for so many years.

Because this is a seldom-used secondary computer I didn't want to dump much money into it, but I could no longer stand the literal headache I'd get every time I booted it up. This product has been the perfect solution.

After reading other reviews I was concerned for difficulty with installation. Take this with a grain of salt because I build my own systems, but this was product was very simple to install; certainly easier than the stock heatsink. Others suggested taking the fan off to install but I found absolutely no need to do so.

I haven't bothered looking at actual temperature readings, but after running Doom 3 for about 45 minutes now I'm surprised to find the outside of my all aluminum case is cool to the touch. A 45 minute long backup or Windows (XP) Update has normally left the outside of the case very warm.

I'm very happy with this purchase and I should have gone for it years ago.

4 out of 5 eggsRosewill vs stock copper core cooler

Pros: Efficient fan(0.19 amperes), low price, nice harness, quieter than stock Intel cooler full speed vs Intel full speed.

Cons: Could be difficult to install, copper heat spreader pad finish not the best, less heat sink surface area than Intel cooler, no instructions. Prescott 3.4 Ghz sl7pp runs 3-4 c hotter than with Intel stock cooler.

Other Thoughts: Fan must be removed from heat sink to ensure an easier install. Retention clips ride in the upper grooves. I removed the pre-applied heat sink compound and used Artic Silver 5. Installation is easiest when you install the clips with the pivoting tabs facing the ram banks. First you sit the fan-less heat sink on the processor, lay the clips in the grooves with the fixed hook ends engaged in their respective holes in the motherboard bracket, then press on BOTH CLIPS at the same time on the clip area marked "push" and they snap right on. The tension is not too excessive, it just seems that way because the pivot arms on the stock cooler do most the work.
If all the conditions are correct with your case and hardware this cooler runs 3-4 c hotter than the copper core style Intel cooler, idle and full load according to Core Temp software(45 idle 65 full vs Intel 42 idle 62 full). Maybe the compound should be given some time to break in but I doubt it. You still may realize some benefits using the Rosewill IF you have less than optimum case cooling but otherwise, no.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, but you may need a bracket

Pros: It does the job and is not noisy. It does have a higher pitch. My unit is an old Dell Dimension 3000 and they use a green "chute" type scoop over the aluminum heat sink with one 80mm fan which really cranks up the speed (and noise). Removing the chute, leaving the stock fan in place and using this CPU cooler reduced over-all noise substantially. If you use this on a Dell, be prepared to buy a 478 bracket to replace the proprietary Dell backet (4 screws does it)

Cons: The trick to installing this cooler is to remove the cooler's fan (leaving only the heat sink) so that you can access the top (far) retention clip and secure it. Then, attach the near (closer) clip, then re-attach the fan with the four screws. This "trick" was the life-saver in installation. Most installations will give very little room and be careful of the electronics (the capacitors) near the retention clips. Clumsy installation could ruin your motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded m 2.8 mhz Pentium 4 with a 3.2 mhz Hyper-Thread Pentium 4 when I did the install. This cooler works well.
