Among the best speakers I've ever heard...
- Pros: ...and I don't mean just computer speakers. You may want to move these off your computer desk and into your living room or den. Musical, balanced, seamless, transparent, with fantasic near-field soundstaging (when properly placed, see below) and they look great to boot. With the amplification already part of the package they're also an incredible bargain. I listen to these daily during my work and I couldn't be happier with them. K-Jazz's online signal sounds especially great (I live in VA, BTW).
- Cons: None that really matter, but see below.
- Other Thoughts: These are large computer speakers, about the size of average bookshelf speakers in a regular home setup. Therefore they can take up quite a bit of space on a crowded desk. Also, placing these speakers on either side of a big PC case and monitor may not allow them to give their very best (although they'll still sound great). Give these babies room to breathe by putting your PC case on the floor if you can. Finally, these speakers are very revealing of bad source material, nasty-sounding, compressed online music stations for example. I hear a slight plasticky coloration on closely-miked vocals, which simply means the singer or announcer needs to BACK OFF.
Wow, these speakers are stunning!
- Comments: I chose these over the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 because I read so many rave reviews of the build quality. These are absolutely beautiful speakers, great wood color. The pics do NO justice. I originally thought the wood/black color combination would be kinda fugly, until I saw them in person as I opened the box. The look has "classy high end" written all over it. They are larger than other multimedia sets at around 13.5" H x 10" D x 7" W (per speaker).
On to the sound. All other reviews are dead on. Nothing short of fantastic sound at high and mid. I think they are well balanced (not too bright). They do lack the oomph of bass but make up for it with flat out awesome clarity.
My meager attempt at more bass: I had an older, cheapy, Creative sub collecting dust so I decided to pair it with the Swans. It took me 3 days to even configure the bass to sound even OK with these things. I like the benefit of the extra bass, but it does make the overrall audio experience sound a little sloppy. Consider that another plus for how good the SWANS really are.
How pleased am I with the purchase? I started saving for the three thousand dollar Swan 6.1 HT set for my home theater. It will be awhile before I can blow that kinda cash on speakers, but Swans are now riding the #1 spot on my checklist.

Fabulous sound but....
- Pros: the high end is unbelievable, crisp, clear sounding music. no interference or static or noise.
- Cons: i find the bass a bit muffled. not as clear as the treble. even when adjusting the bass control, does not make a difference.
- Other Thoughts: if swan can make the bass better this would be a perfect system. as it is, it is still a great sounding set of speakers!
Another unlucky buyer
- Pros: Great sound while they worked.
- Cons: Experienced the same left speaker issue as other reviewers. Was unable to exchange them and have not had any luck contacting the manufacturer. It appears to be a problem with the internal amplifier.
- Other Thoughts: I will see if someone can repair them or I'll have to use them as expensive door stops. If they would have continued working properly, I would have loved them...
No left speaker sound
- Pros: Good sound, when volume is turned up loud.
- Cons: I sent back one pair because the left speaker was on at a constant volume. This pair, the left speaker has no sound at all unless the volume is turned up past halfway. I am stuck with these because the problem developed after 30 days (but I've had them less than 6 months).
- Other Thoughts: Looks like I am at least the third person to have this problem here in the newegg reviews....

No matter you listen CD music, DVD film, play game or download MP3 by computer, sound revivification through computers are always the basic part. With the development of modern sound card technology, improve better and better for high quality sound card. Care only cost but sound quality multimedia speaker cannot catch the development step for modern sound card, and it is doom to be the bottleneck of the development of multimedia, which results that there is no connection between multimedia speaker and fidelity. For the purpose of breaking the ice, Swans Group put out M-200 through 2 years' hard work. We put multimedia speaker into a situation of HI-FI confidently. |
