1 out of 5 eggsGood hardware, BAD drivers

Pros: The hardware is great. I love the sideways door and the legal page size. Not too loud.

Cons: The XP drivers do not work. The HP Director software is so awkward to use that it is nearly impossible to figure out. The updates on HP's web site do not help and in fact cause WinXP to not boot! Very, very poor.

Comments: This is my 4th HP scanner and to rate teh scanner I would have to give it 4 stars. Not perfect but very nice and VERY quite. One the other hand the driver and software has got to be the worst I've ever used from HP and only a little better then an old Umax I had. The software that came with my HP 5470 scanner is better then this 8200 series. I can't get it to scan properly with Omnipage 14 and there is no way to set the OCR button to that application. Button programming has always been a problem with HP scanners. Scanning pictures is easy enough but this scanner was bought to scanner art into a large hard drive and so far it doesn't look like the software will let you set the path so the save can be done automatically. Instead you have to move them for the save folder inside the HP software.
