2 out of 5 eggsDecent, but won't last

Pros: Cheap. Does the job decently enough. Nice 1-button scan options.

Cons: Typical antiquated software. Broke after 18 months' use.

Other Thoughts: After 18 months' of ownership, the device suddenly stopped "resetting" back to the starting position. The only way I can get it to do so is to unplug and replug it in.

5 out of 5 eggsLittle bugger just works and works.

Pros: Works like a charm. No A/C adapter to worry about.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and plug it directly to the actual computer and not to an USB hub, even if it's a powered USB hub.

5 out of 5 eggsA Great Scanner!

Pros: I am very satisfied with the piece! Very lightweight, compact, and uses only one USB cord both for power and data transfer. Makes decent images and what's more important for me - PDFs from scratch. Despite multiple comments about this scanner being loud - mine is very QUIET! Overall, this is a great scanner that does the job of scanning - what else do you need from a scanner, right?!

Cons: Being picky here: 1) I wish the scanning speed was a little faster; 2) beware, it's all plastic! - which makes it very accident-sensitive; 3) the software is being "simplified" to the point when it gets too confusing; 4) the cord is quite short to make a proper arrangement for the scanner on my desk - which means I have to spend extra time on setting it up before scanning and unplugging it after am done, all the times.

Other Thoughts: I bought it to digitalize a bazillion of original documents for my thesis. There was an instance when I had to scan a 600page manuscript and was given only 2days for that. This thing scanned everything without complaining!

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Light weight, and doesn't take up too much desk space. Quality isn't as great but its not that bad either.

Cons: The biggest issue I have with this scanner is that when it idles, it turns off. It might be good for people who turn their computers on and off but I leave my computer on all the time. After being idle, I have to unplug and replug the scanner which is a big pain in the rear.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I wanted

Pros: 1) Portable - Pretty lightweight and thin and narrow. Similar to a laptop.
2) USB Powered - Huge plus in my book.
3) Fairly quick scans - I think a full letter size scan took me about 8-10 seconds? I'd say that's not bad for a small portable scanner :).

Cons: 1) Software looks a little outdated but that's really a small con.

Other Thoughts: Cheap portable scanner. It does exactly that :)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Affordably priced. Good quality scans. No external power needed -- just a single USB connection.

Cons: Unlike the Canon LiDE 30 that this is replacing, this scanner doesn't come with a stand to put it in a vertical orientation, meaning it takes up a lot more desk space. I was surprised to see a nice feature like this go away.

Like most Canon products, the software is not nearly as nice as the hardware. The ZoomBrowser software does not have an intuitive UI.

4 out of 5 eggsHi-res and very portable

Pros: Much quieter than my HP; needs no AC adapter. Scans quick and on high-resolution I get good detail. The slim body makes it perfect for any laptop user needing imaging on-the-go. Photoshop compatibility is good: the scanner is easily accessed and manipulated through Photoshop.

Cons: Windows 7 software not included; best installed if downloaded from Canon's site (they do include a 64-bit version). Software was a bit kludgy in that it had three separate installation pieces.

Other Thoughts: On Windows 7, install the driver, connect the scanner when it asks, then install the larger software download, then install the smaller...

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: Used it to scan in over 400 photos from a family album. The photos turned out better than I had expected and scanning went quickly.

Cons: It didn't load the photos for me.

5 out of 5 eggsArcSoft PhotoStudio patch for Windows 7

Pros: Compact, inexpensive, easy to use, images are very clear and detailed.

Cons: Scan speed is a bit slow, but not bothersome for someone who uses only occasionally.

Other Thoughts: Included software works on Windows 7 except PhotoStudio 5.5. To fix, do standard install (including PhotoStudio 5.5) from CD per Canon instructions, including restart and connect scanner etc. Then go to ArcSoft website > Downloads > Software Patches > PhotoStudio 6. Download and install "PhotoStudio 6 patch for Canon users." Updates 5.5 to 6.0, which works perfectly on my Windows 7 x64.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic grad school tool.

Pros: 1. USB powered. NO wallwart or powerbrick to lug around!!!!!
2. Completely transportable.
3. Perfect for scanning articles and chapters.

Cons: If you are looking for something to make archival scans of rare photos.... this isn't the droid you're looking for.

Other Thoughts: I'm a grad student and I have spent a fortune feeding the library copy machines. Not any more. This critter is light, quiet, and deals with any type of printed media I have thrown at it.

Absolutely the best investment I have made for grad school. Paid for itself within two trips to the library when I was able to walk right past the copiers.
