1 out of 5 eggsGarbage!!

Pros: Nothing much to say here apart from horrible experience from Neat customer service!! Absolute trash. That's the pros lol

Cons: Customer service is horrible!!! I've e-mailed them three times so far and not a single response!! Thought of returning the product but don't even see that option on their website (Bought it from them directly, I'm thinking that's a mistake). Software is mediocre. There are limitations like can't create new cabinet file for windows (you can create folders), brightness/ contrast change is done per page. So if u have a 100 page document, have fun doing it one page at a time!! No option to tweak them a document at a time or as a "batch". Scanning the documents in color is of poor quality. So i scan them B&W and then tweak the brightness/ contrast to make it legible. Overall not worth it. Look at fujitsu or something else that might have a much better customer service!

1 out of 5 eggsCheap and Nasty - except it's not Cheap

Pros: It's relatively small.
It's fairly shiny

Cons: Expensive, inflexible, poor quality.

Other Thoughts: Let's look at what's included here: a portable scanner of limited capability and questionable quality and software which cannot generate custom expense reports (you want it in Landscape? Tough.) and which only works with the extremely limited scanner.

Now let's break down the value:
The Scanner: Brother sells a portable scanner of much superior quality, with adequate software and the ability to connect any other scanner to that software for at least $90 less than this bundled scam.

So the software must be worth $90 +, right? Wrong. I have a receipt and expense scanning app on my smartphone which generates custom reports and is supported by a fully functional online app I can use from my desktop. I can scan from my Android phone, my iPad, my large office 3 in 1 and my little flatbed scanner at home. The cost of this powerful and flexible app?

Essentially, I could have the Brother portable scanner with really good software and more than twice the functionality of the cheapest Neat product for less than $70.00.

I regret this purchase terribly and feel absolutely ripped off. I have written it off as a bad experience and am waiting for my Brother DS620 Mobile Scanner to arrive.

Oh, and I failed to mention that I am actually on my second neat scanner as the first one completely failed to work out of the box and had to be returned the day after it was bought. Heed my advice: Steer well clear of Neat products.

1 out of 5 eggsSoftware is horrible

Pros: Nice Scans

Cons: Everytime I use this product the company finds a new way to irritate me.

Other Thoughts: I have the previous model of this scanner though it uses the same software package. It might be OK if you live in the software such as a bookkeeper. Otherwise the supplied software is too slow and buggy. Unlike any other scanner I have ever used they do NOT provide a standalone driver, you have to install the whole package. I thought this would be a good product to take to tradeshows for scanning business cards and various pieces of printed literature. Not possible as there is not driver for the computer in the booth so it's not possible to scan with any computer but mine. If I use my computer I cannot do anything else. I have a Samsung Series Nine with a core i7 processor and 8GB yet this product can make my laptop beg for mercy. Also no way to export to RTF or other common formats. This thing lives for the database and it's that or image or pdf. If you have casual scanning needs do not consider this product.

4 out of 5 eggsResearch it for yourself

Pros: Small, light weight, does good for what it is. Good for backing up thermal paper receipts that fade and are unreadable. You know, like the ones you need for warranties.

Cons: I do have to say, the software is a love hate thing. The database is great but it can be a pain with the stuff that's not really needed. IMO

Other Thoughts: Please read reviews from actual owners, and ignore the other non-owners. they shouldn't be allowed to leave reviews of any kind.

I got this in a lot of computer stuff from someone getting out of the repair business. I have yet to fully utilize all it's abilities. It's handy for receipts, especially the ones printer on thermal paper that fades and become unreadable. But it's handy for what it's made for. People should realize that this is not a full blown $500 document scanner with a ADF.

For anyone reading reviews, good for you doing your research. To all the people that leave reviews that don't even own the item, but don't like the commercials or advertisement for the item, well they just need to go away. To be polite!

4 out of 5 eggsYears on...

Pros: Convenient, reliable, excellent quality PDF scans of documents and receipts (esp. in color).

Cons: Software tries to do everything - this is really what you're paying for without knowing it. The software is bloated and slow, but actually pretty darn good at reading your documents and receipts and providing a full-blown database system for your documents, receipts, and business cards. Did I mention it is slow... slow to start, slow to scan, slow to file, slow at everything it does.

Other Thoughts: I've had this unit for just over 3 years now. Still going strong. I only use it while on the road, which was extensive the first year I had it. The last two years, it has been used probably only about once every two weeks (but consistent). I still use it for all my expense reports because it is fantastic at scanning and generating reports of receipts. You have to spend some time with the software - like all *good* software systems, you have to take the time to learn how it is the designers want you to do things, and then you will appreciate it. I'm surprised at the review on his third unit after only a few months - I've had mine in my laptop bag for years surviving drops, bumps, and you name it! Its been a trooper, and I'd buy again (and will) when mine fails. Don't buy it to do what you'd do with a dedicated document scanner, if you do, it will dissapoint (both this USB powered unit and the software are slow). But, its wonderful to sit in the car or hotel room and scan important docs and have them email-able in a short time.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for backup of hard copies

Pros: Easily scan in most anything, good scan quality at 600 dpi, replaces my older all in one printer scanner which is 1200 dpi but is still good enough for anything I scan (mostly documents so don't need high image quality).

Great to backup hard copies (reviewer saying its horrible because then you only have digital records obviously doesn't know about online storage: Dropbox, Google Docs, etc. thus making digital "backups" very reliable) I still leave the hard records in folders in a box, but now I do not need to worry about something like a fire eliminating all my records. Purchased this rather than a safe box as those will eventually run out of physical space and I travel so I need something portable.

The auto sorting is great, works 99% of the time to differentiate between bills, receipts, or whatever I scan in.

Cons: Does not auto feed multiple pages, but as I picked this up for $75 that is of little consequence.

Other Thoughts: Sadly a bad review given too much attention can distract from a good product. Yes this is not the most robust electronic (i.e. don't get this if you plan to use your scanner as a hammer also) but it also does not feel "cheap." Scans everything I have fed it and has not been a problem, great to help you get digitally organized.

1 out of 5 eggsBogus Scanner and Concept

Pros: Makes IT ignorant users feel great that they have scanned their documents onto a computer.

Also they don't tell the users the hazards of putting all of their records on a single hard disk, and then disposing of the original record.
Heck, I have Hardware (3Ware) RAID contoller running RAID 1, I then have Acronis backing up alternately to two external drives, and finally I have all of my disk on Carbonite.

Watching the commercials makes it sound so easy and fool-proof. it's not.

Other Thoughts: Anybody dumb enough to purchase this deserves what they get.

PS - I don't have one but everytime I see those commercials I cringe at the thought of all of the records that will be lost. Also those scanners...CHEAP.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little scanner

Pros: Works great. Compact

Cons: Took a 1 hour phone call to tech support to get it working on my laptop

Other Thoughts: I travel for my job and am required to email in quite a few forms weekly, (sometimes daily) This little scanner fits easily in my computer bag/backpack. Add a printer with battery, like the HP H470 and you have a portable office that doesn't tie you to a wall outlet

1 out of 5 eggsThird unit just died

Pros: Decent software and good idea. I travel for work 75% of the time and thought that this would be a great way to save time and headache. Unfortunatly it hasn't turned out that way.

Cons: Poor quality - I'm on my third unit and it just died. The first lasted 1 day, the second for two weeks, and the third for three months.

Other Thoughts: This has cost me a considerable amount of time, headache, frustration, and money for something that is now going into the garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsNow Supports x64

Pros: Portable, easy to use, software works well.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I held out for a long time since they *didn't* support x64. They finally do now.
