5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: I've had this UPS for nearly five years, and its still on its original batteries. Countless APCs and Tripp-lite batteries have come and gone over that time, yet this carries on. Truly impressive. The batteries could die tomorrow and I'd be happy. Lasts over an hour with a low load.

Cons: Noisy fan, and it kicks on any time there is any sort of power event (even brownouts). The software (which is optional- Windows picks it up without it) isn't the best.

Other Thoughts: APC who?

5 out of 5 eggsCyberPower Battery Backup

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Very good design and I am happy that I bought it. I would buy another.

Cons: Box arrived beatup and retaped. Front cover was knocked loose with a small screw mount damaged. A slightly larger screw reattached the cover and the unit looks and works perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsBest UPS ever

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Handles over 500 watts
Reliable
Lots of outlets
Lasts for years
Easy to replace the batteries. (See other thoughts)

Cons: The batteries will eventually go out. (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I purchased this UPS years ago and I finally had to replace the batteries in it because it would not stay on in a power outage.
I looked through my Newegg Invoices and I found that I purchased it almost 7 years ago! Invoice date 10-26-2007. Wow, I put new batteries in it and it is just like new again! Still works great!
It is a shame that the tech doesn't exist yet to make the batteries last longer, but 7 years for a sealed lead acid battery is actually quite good.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks on Linux

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: plug and works on a customer's server (running a relatively old version of Centos Linux). Just all that you want from an UPS.

Cons: none so far.

5 out of 5 eggsHave one for 5 yrs now

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Does what it's supposed to. After 5 years mine is still working well and was put to the test during a short blackout this summer (in the texas heat).

Cons: Incredibly hard, as my toes have found on many occasions.

Other Thoughts: This battery backup continued to power my computer for about 15 minutes during hurricane Ike, giving me enough time to write a short email to friends. The next day in 90 degree heat without electricity (the start of 5 days w/o lights) it kept an oscillating fan cooling my living room for around 10 hours before it just puttered out it's last watt. Four years later, and same battery (larger computer), it went to work again during a short blackout giving me about eight minutes to backup and save a program.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great so far

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: I have no complaints about this unit so far. I am not utilizing it at full load yet, but will be in the near future. On my iMac, I'm using the built-in UPS tools to manage the power settings.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Does what it's supposed to. Maintains a constant and consistent power source. PowerPanel software available from the CyberPower website is reliable and minimalistic with system resources. Protects power, ethernet/phone, and coaxial cables. Includes a battery protected socket spaced properly for a "wall wart."

Cons: Only has 1 socket spaced for "wall warts." The other 7 sockets are too close to each other for these power adapters.

Other Thoughts: This provides seamless transitions to battery power and has functioned beautifully. I have an i7-930 system with crossfired Radeon 5770s and a 22" 1080p monitor hooked up to this and I get 15 minutes of battery life at idle (220w). I have maxed out my system at 526w and this UPS didn't even flinch, except that my battery life dropped to 5 minutes.

Overall, if you don't need any more than 560w of battery backup this UPS will serve you well.

2 out of 5 eggsSticking with APC

This review is from: CyberPower AVR CP900AVR 900 VA 560 W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Does the basics. This unit did work ok for me for a couple of years, so it wasn't a total waste or anything like that.

Cons: Batteries failed a little sooner than I'd expect.
Constantly tripped by Samsung printer.
Replacing battery is much more of a pain than APC product.

Other Thoughts: I've had the CyberPower CP900AVR for a little over 2 years. I was satisfied with this unit for a while - it did its job during several power "flickers" and prevented PC power loss. When I bought a Samsung color laser late in 2008 I noticed that every time I printed with it, the CP900AVR would trip. (The printer wasn't plugged in to the UPS, but to a surge protector plugged into the same AC panel.) I assumed it was the Samsung at fault - and it may be in some way, but after connecting an APC UPS I never have the issue.

The batteries on the CP died recently so I ordered a replacement set. Installing the new batteries was much more of a hassle than on the similar APC model. Once I figured out how the batteries fit together (had to remove a bunch of adhesive, which can't be replaced easily) putting the new ones back was like holding a jigsaw puzzle in one hand while trying to use a screwdriver.

Sticking with APC in the future.
