Features

Features
GreenPower UPS
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) - Incoming AC power is electronically regulated for dips and spikes AVR takes this irregular AC power and converts it into a consistent Sinewave so sensitive electronic equipment can achieve its optimal performance.
EMI/RFI - Provides shielding against electromagnetic interference & radio frequency signals. Most commonly, this is used to prevent line noise or "humming" that occurs over telephone lines or stereo electronics.
Transformer-spaced Outlets - Widely spaced outlets allow you to conveniently add large transformer-based plugs without compromising the utility of other outlets.
USB Connectivity - HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
PowerPanel PE Smart Management Software - In event of a power outage, PowerPanel PE will not only save your open files and will also "Hibernate" your PC to increase the run-time on the UPS unit. PowerPanel is quickly and easily installed on any Windows-based PC and is designed to utilize minimal system resources. Diagnostic screens give immediate visuals of the UPS's status, and also include the following features: Silent operation mode, configurable system notifications, automatic self tests, adjustable high/low voltage warnings, event/data logging, and scheduled shutdowns.
LED Indicators - LED status lights indicate Power-On and wiring faults.

4 out of 5 eggsGood devices

Pros: Solid. Inexpensive. Durable. I've had 2 of these running since 2007. Rock Solid. Original Batteries. Stil decent run-times.

Cons: not really, but I wish they had network capability.. but didn't expect it at this capacity/price point.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed so far

Pros: High wattage output for home use. Great software utilities, also with Linux support. Long battery runtime. My latest battery test lasted at least 7-8 mins without causing a shutdown even with all these devices drawing load: Linux server, gaming/development machine, 22" high def monitor, external backup drive, DSL modem and network switch. With all those devices on backup power they draw between 300-500 Watts (depending on what I'm doing), and I can keep working mostly uninterrupted for at least 5 minutes in the event of a surge or blackout.

I was able to install their powerpanel "business edition" software on my headless Linux server (Ubuntu 12.04), which uses a gui OR text-based installer and a web interface for remote management. Very slick web interface with diagnostic information, event handling (auto-shutdown, including coordinated multi-computer shutdowns).

Received good, timely support from their customer service.

Cons: The only gotcha I ran into so far is an annoying "feature" that only appears if you haven't installed the powerpanel software yet. If you connect to the UPS with serial/usb, but you haven't yet installed the software, the UPS can (and probably will) switch off randomly when you least expect it, cutting power instantly to all connected devices.

On the plus side, customer support was very helpful, and explained that this was by design (although I'm not sure I understand why you would want it to do this). This problem goes away completely once you install the software, so it's not that big of a deal. Just beware that you should probably not have the server on which you're installing the software connected to the UPS until AFTER you install the software.

Other Thoughts: Overall very impressed so far. It does everything I wanted in a UPS. I was afraid at first that I would draw too much load with all my devices connected, but even with all my stuff drawing load I'm only using 30-40% of the 900W capacity.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what I should do

Pros: Great! Does what it says

Cons: nothing yet. I think they could improve their statistics in the software which comes along.

Other Thoughts: heavy... nothing to solve that... batterys are heavy... :)

5 out of 5 eggsA useful insurance policy for any computer.

Pros: A very reliable UPS. It gives me anywhere from 20 minutes to 50 minutes to shut everything down in a power outage. This was insanely useful when a local power company decided to perform daily rolling blackouts due to a lack of ability to handle a cold snap. I could work on college documents without worry of losing either my work or the entire computer.

Cons: This backup, like any, is very heavy. Make sure that you can at least lift your computer case by yourself, because it will probably be at least as heavy, but much smaller. It also doesn't have the front LCD to report status of battery, so you have to use the included software to view it. This could be a small headache for a gamer, but not really for an "average" computer user (i.e.- web browsing, document writing, etc.)

Other Thoughts: I have had this for over a year, and the battery still appears to be going very strong. I'm very happy with this purchase so far!

One other thing to note is that the power button only powers off the slots connected to the battery. The other four slots stay on continuously as though connected to a surge protector without a power button. Can be useful when you want continuous power, or may be annoying if you have something like a modem that you must manually unplug during a thunderstorm.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes What it Does

Pros: Hasn't blown out after years. Have had it for around four years now. In a few power outages it has come through and shutdown my machine safely and securely. The software is average and basically all you would need...

Cons: None really, won't last for hours after an outage?

Other Thoughts: Would purchase again if I ever have a need!

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse

Pros: This UPS rocks! I have owned it for two years, and living in Arizona where our power grid is sub-par, this thing is a lifesaver. I run a Dual-processor W/S and two monitors, and this UPS has kept all that, plus my internet and switches running for up to 5 minutes without hassle!

Cons: Had to tape over the power switch so I wouldn't accidentally kick it off during use. Heavy! But then again, so am I...

Other Thoughts: Wish it was rackmount...
