4 out of 5 eggszen X-fi

Pros: Great sounding and easy to use if you use their software with Windows, but, if you use Linux, good luck. It also works with Windows Media Player.

Cons: I use Ubuntu and it is very difficult or impossible to download music to this device. It comes with software to convert and download files but it only work with Windows. I can load music and video files onto it but it doesn't come up on the menu. It would be much better if it wasn't so closely tied to Windows.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good sound quality. SD card expansion

Cons: Wont charge properly. Screen scratches just looking at it.
Cant use standard usb wall charger. Creative says that is normal. You have to purchase their charger for 23 bucks! If you plug it into standard usb pc connector it takes 12 hours to charge the unit and then it only lasts 3 hours then dead.

Other Thoughts: Like an idiot I purchased a refurb directly from Creative because I wanted a second mp3 player just for the gym. I noticed that it would not charge correctly and did not return it right away, my fault. 90 day return for refurb products. I have purchased "anything but Ipod" for a long time but have seen cases where Apple would make an exception. Wont purchase Creative again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound!!!

Pros: best sound quality out of an mp3, good bass lotsa storage space, looks nice and once u get used to it everything is actually pretty user friendly. also i like how u can make playlist on it while on the go. also comes with great headphones and its pretty loud to, i think its the first mp3 ive had that i cant really listen to the music full blast 24/7 but to me thats a plus, and the speaker on it is really nice to its a bit louder and better sounding then the ones on the ipod touch's

Cons: takes a lil getting used to but no biggie, if u have trouble getting used to it your just being lazy or ur an ipod fanboy that hasnt even touched it

Other Thoughts: i love it, it was a great buy and newegg always keeps me happy unlike comp*sa, really there just terrible there sometimes

4 out of 5 eggsSolid little device

Pros: The SD slot could be viewed as a pro or a con, I go with pro because you get an 8GB SD card for music, then the 16GB for video and you've got a decent setup going. The device is solid, the included headphones are phenominal, the UI is configurable, and bearable (see cons), great price for a great device.

Cons: The included software is extraneous, just connect the device, it'll be recognized by windows fine; if you want videos convert them to a resolution smaller than 320x200 in AVI/WMV format, windows movie maker might work fine for it; I use AVI ReComp.

The UI is by far the worst part about the device, for a few reasons. First, it takes forever to access SD cards (at least 15 seconds to view a filelist, and then another 15-20 to play one song). Also, you would think a device with 9 buttons in a configuration like a cell-phone could work exactly the same as one when chatting. There are two input schemes, each unlike a cell phones and each incredibly slow, making WiFi and MSN/Yahoo support kind of useless.

Other Thoughts: Someone said that it needs Creatives software to stream from a PC; I found that setting up media sharing in Windows Media Player on Vista got the device to recognize and play music from it. Your mileage may vary.

The only reason for 4 eggs and not 5 is because of my frustration with the UI specific to playing files off SD cards and when chatting; playing files off the device and navigation is very solid--I just purchased this device with MSN support in mind and was disappointed when the input methods were so backwards and slow.

This device is still, however, worth the money I spent because everything else about it is brilliant; check out the ZEN touch that Creative is coming out with soon as well.

5 out of 5 eggsFirmware

Pros: I've been very satisfied with the performance of this player. It sounds great, especially with X-Fi enabled. The quality of the earphones suprised me, as they sounded much better than the B*se earphones I bought for my original Zen 4GB player. One of the main reasons I bought it was because it has an external speaker, which works fairly well at work when earphones wouldn't be practical.

Cons: The firmware. The player came from the factory with version 1.02.01 and the X-Fi feature and the volume levels worked great. After updating the firmware that ALL changed. Volume levels were drastically reduced and X-Fi didn't sound very good at all. Needless to say, I found the original firmware on the net and reinstalled it. The only other problem I've had with it was the blown speaker after 11 months of use. Tech support was a pain to reach, but after sending it back to Creative they sent me a new player. Oh, and video conversion using Creatives software was a pain as well. I don't use the Creative software, just Windows Explorer and AllToAVI or Handbrake. Full integration of the SD slot with the OS, i.e. playlists, would be nice.

Other Thoughts: For me the biggest issue was the firmware in regards to sound quality and volume. I know others that have these players as well after hearing mine and they agree that v1.02.01 is the best firmware for sound quality, but I'm not sure if it lacks features that the newer versions have. Did I mention that Newegg is the best, and that I make most - if not all - of my computer/electronic purchases from them?

4 out of 5 eggsNot an Ipod ;)

Pros: Sleek design.
Great sound quality.
Great battery life.

Cons: Only supports playlists created within Creative Centrale. (I.E. cannot create a winamp playlist and use with Zen)
Does not have any available remotes on the market as ipods do (wired or wireless).

Other Thoughts: At least it's not an ipod and one can be original without sacrificing quality.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Media Player

Pros: Great playback quality, even on the built-in speaker. I was amazed at how well the speaker performs given that it is so small. Excellent bass response, very good trebel.

Cons: Must have the included software installed to use the WiFi to access media, which locks you into using the Creative software for media management.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the money, I highly suggest buying this if you just aren't cool enough to afford an iPod or Zune...or are just too cool to own either.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Wonderful Player when it was functional. Excellent sound quality. Easily navigable. Compatible with everything I put on there with no fuss. Long battery life. Great external speaker.

Cons: I only had mine for 2 weeks of VERY light usage. I'm talking about having it ONLY on the table in front of me and playing through 1 battery recharge. Then suddenly it just refused to turn on or charge ever again. RMA'd for a full refund thankfully.

Other Thoughts: If you do some digging like I did, a handfull of other people had the exact same problem with this specific line of player. The players just mysteriously kick the bucket all of a sudden for no good reason. This indicates to me that Creative has once again produced a player with faulty or overly fragile parts. (My original Nomad Jukebox had a faulty headphone jack, Nomad Jukebox ZEN Xtra... faulty headphone jack... and now this! The most detrimental issue I've had with faulty parts) That being said this will have been my 3rd and FINAL creative MP3 player unless they turn things around. I'm jumping ship for a Cowon at this point. It costs more than my budget will normally allow but I have no other options at this point.
