5 out of 5 eggsWonderful!

Pros: Works extremely well!
Good sound Quality!
Mine came with a screen protector.
Works nicely with Linux.
Touch screen works well, even with the screen protector.
Price is reasonable, especially compared other Touch screen mp3 players on the market.

Cons: Does not play my .MP4 videos.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Player w/ one fatal flaw

Pros: Simple controls
Great sound
Nice applications (notepad, calculator, flash player, etc)
Nice Screen
Good size
Good weight
Good stylus (will allow me to use it even when I have fat gloves on :) )
Expandable SDHC memory with a simple firmware upgrade
Easy Firmware upgrade
Syncs w/ any MTP program well
Loads of forum support for this

Cons: VERY limited playlist support/capability.
Playlist only exist on certain firmwares.
You can't have a playlist on the external SDHC memory play songs from the main and vice versa.
Actually getting a playlist from the external memory to show up has proven to be quite a chore.

Other Thoughts: I really like this player. It has so many cool features. However, it only gets three eggs because of its lacking in the playlist area. If you do not like tinkering, don't expect to have working playlists with this player. I am truly disappointed in Cowon for the whole playlist mess on this player. How can you get away with making a PMP capable of holding 8000 songs with no playlists?

If you like tinkering, consider this a rating of 5 eggs and get this player. You can tinker, and you CAN get playlists to work, and it makes your music sound so much better when you do :).

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice product

Pros: small, inexpensive, memory expandable, plays many audio formats, no file encryption/protection, can be loaded without any special software, long battery life (I sometimes forget to turn off the player letting it go for hours, once even over night. it never drained the battery to the end. now, after over 1 year and with the card the battery life is about 20hours)

Cons: playlist feature extremely poor, could show more id3 tag information (only artist, album and song name), music/videos on expansion card show up in a different directory - that can make navigation inconvenient.

Other Thoughts: expanded my player immediately with an 8gb card, making it a 12 gb player (now I would rather buy the 8gb player version + a 16gb card) The battery life gets a bit shorter with the card but not too bad. What disturbs me most about the player is that there isn't really any play list support. the way it has to go is to choose a song within the player and from there adding it to the (yes, one) playlist. that means spending a lot of time on a list that can not be exported/moved/copied and won't work once the music is removed from the player. The file manager (jetShell) that comes with the player is close to useless since it doesn't do much more than the OS file manager. In fact the only unique feature that I found was the ability to queue the files before uploading them. I wish it was possible to make playlists the iTunes way.

5 out of 5 eggsA Linux User's Dream!

Pros: There's just too many good things to state here. The player works perfectly. It's so nice to be able to plug this in to any computer and download an MP3 without worrying about DRM, databases, proprietary software, music accounts, etc. Uses a standard USB cable, what a concept! Buttons, casing, etc. all feel solid. The screen is beautiful and the touch screen responds really well. If you hate depending on proprietary, bloated, software to sync your music player, and just want something that just works, look no further.

Cons: Only thing I can think of that this player under-performs in is that it is pretty slow in copying files to. It'll probably take 3-4 minutes to copy over 500MB. It might also depend on your OS and which port you use, so YMMV.

Other Thoughts: Winff converts movies perfectly to the D2, with no audio syncing issues. Just make a preset with these options for ffmpeg:

-s 320x180 -padtop 30 -padbottom 30 -aspect 16:9 -vcodec mpeg4 -vtag XVID -b 500kb -mbd rd -flags +4mv+trell+aic -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -g 300 -r 29.97 -acodec mp3 -ab 128 -ac 2 -async 1

Will make a perfect letterbox formatted movie every time! Good Luck!

5 out of 5 eggsHow did I miss this before!

Pros: -Outstanding touchscreen and playback
-Sound Quality
-Supports an asinine number of codec
-Supports themes and wallpaper
-Same size screen as my iPod classic
-Plugs in
-Supports upto 16gig SDHC

Cons: *Took a while to figure out to sort the music I liked
*Difficult to figure out how to rip video for it
*The software that comes with it is for lack of better words, not user friendly
*Made me re-rip my entire 1000+CD library into FLAC

Other Thoughts: This player is in a class of it's own at this price point. I don't care about the FM playback, but for around $150 it offers a touch screen player that supports just about any format audio and video playback with TV out. The 4 gig model supports an additional 16gig via SDHC support, and Cowan has done nothing but add features at no price. If I recall, Apple seems to bill for any major upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsMature and impressive

Pros: I have owned a lot of flash mp3 players. They are always missing some feature or another, or they're cheaply made, or they're incompatible with this or that. Cowon has had the D2 out for a couple years and it shows. Not only is it well-designed and well-manufactured, frequent firmware updates ensure that the D2 is always cutting-edge.

Specific Pros: The FM tuner is the most intuitive and navigable I have ever used. The touchscreen and its interface are very nice and keep the body free from clutter. Movies look beautiful compared to other players. It will play back many AVIs without transcoding. It uses a standard USB mini-A connector. Ridiculous battery life. SDHC compatibility. File bookmarking. Intelligent shuffle controls - you can set folder "boundaries" for shuffling. You can skip to any point in a file without holding down a button for 5 minutes.

Cons: The file bookmarking, which I mentioned in Pros, is also a bit of a con - it replaces automatic resumption of files that were mid-play during powerup. You have to make a bookmark before you shut it down in order to resume the file. This is sort of a Con, because it's not what I'm used to, but I'm getting accustomed to it.

Other Thoughts: I'm a talk listener. Podcasts and radio. The terrific track controls and position-jumping make podcast listening easier than it's ever been. The SDHC compatibility, though, gives me so much space that I can even squeeze some movies and music in there as well.

Check out the Cowon enthusiast site for cool Flash apps, skins, startup logos, and much more.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Mobile Multimedia Player I have Owned

Pros: This Multimedia Player is by far the best I have ever owned. It has excellent audio quality, comes with great earbuds, and overall is very easy to use. The firmware is able to be and has significant performance boosts when updated. Built in SDHC slot is a very nice addition.

Cons: Touch screen occasionally messes up in the notepad... it draws a line where I didn't want it. Not too big a deal though.

Other Thoughts: I have tried other popular mp3 players and this one is the best I have used out of all of them.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's touch screen, the resolution for movies is -gorgeous- There are a ton of features and it's very versitile to use. It seems so far to be sturdy. I dropped it and it didn't break. It's sleek and I like that if you can switch the hold button and the volume button can be used to scan through songs. Also you can use a SD card plus it comes with an AC charger and the regular charger through a computer. Oh! And the screen is a really nice size.

Cons: The Jet Audio it comes with is confusing and I've ended up having to use Windows Media player. I wish it had a better program to make play lists with. It has a lot of features and not everything can be figured out with just prodding around. Unlike IRiver E10 where you can change themes as easily as wall paper, you can't do that here, it's actually kind of hard to change the theme.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy, beyond happy with this product. Normally I'm an Iriver girl but this really had me surprised. Considering other brands that do the same thing or less, it's really a good value. I haven't used all the features it comes with but I'm getting to them. My only main gripe is the Jet Audio program that comes with it. It isn't as user friendly as the IRiver version but I can use Windows Media Player fine.

5 out of 5 eggsD2 4gb - everything I want it to be!

Pros: > Updated firmware to 2.55 and no issues. It's fast and bright and easy to learn, very intuitive.
> SD card slot shows up in windows as it's own USB drive, so I know what's on the card and what's on the device itself. I can move the SD card to my pc/ laptop and play files off it! Convenient!
> I DON'T HAVE TO USE ITUNES! I can grab and move files off any PC with a USB port, not just one using itunes, so very, very convenient. Also, it plays more media formats than the ip*d!
> Quick to boot up and start playing media! Quick to power down! Great battery - I use it 5-6 hours per day w/o charging! Easy touchscreen and fast! Light!
> More: Outputs to the TV or the stereo! FM radio! Microphone and recording abilities for radio and mic!

Cons: Not widescreen... no speakers built-in... no Wi-Fi. But I wasn't looking for those things. If they had those things, though... :) Hope it doesn't break because their tech support is among the worst!

Other Thoughts: I had a Cowon A2 20gb and it died. Tech support for them was h*rrible! They sent it back to me and it died again in less than six hours. Sent it back. Decided to get a flash based player - the D2 is better and easier to use than their hd-based players.
