The Cowon D2 is more than a simple media player. It has a 2.5" touchscreen that's capable of showing 16 million colors. The Virtual Click interface overlays navigation buttons onto your video during video playback. The player comes with a handy stylus to aid navigation. The stylus also functions as a kickstand so you don't have to hold the player while watching videos.
The 4GB of memory will hold plenty of files for your entertainment. But if it isn’t enough there is an SD/MMC slot for additional storage. You can also use the slot to preview pictures from your digital camera on the screen.
The engineers have loaded the D2 with multiple sound enhancing technologies so you get the best audio experience possible. First up is the BBE process which has been used by professional musicians and engineers for years to produce stunning sound. They’ve also included Mash3Bass and MP Enhance to boost bass and compensate for compression losses. So, plug in a set of earphones and enjoy the music.

Awesome overall media player
- Pros: Touch Screen works pretty well, theres a paint program for doodles when bored, firmware 2.5 supports sdhc, nice display videos are surprisingly nice to watch on it and the conversion software works pretty well, converts most videos pretty well including some mkv files, audio quality insanely good, battery life is unfreakingbelievable, also very compact. It's a true ipod killer if only more people knew about it, but then again i wouldn't be so cool if they did
oh also the thing is very sturdy and doesn't feel flimsy like my ipod. oh and i can't forget about the jet effect, and expect really cool things from the flash player that was recently implemented.
- Cons: I dislike using the windows media player sorting system for music, the folders are cool but i'm spoiled by how easy itunes made it to edit song info and get album artwork and playlists(only good thing apples ever done which they spoiled with quicktime such a shame), the screen gets smudgy pretty easily like all mp3 players do when they're in your pocket, the stylus has a good tendency for scratching the screen so i don't recomend you use it or atleast if you do don't press too hard, some of the navigation is a little stupid especially when navigating music.
the radio at least in my area is very staticy. Also your place in a video or song gets lost if the player shuts off, even if you pause it cause it auto turns off after about a minute even during a video.
- Other Thoughts: To people saying that the top buttons could be used for better uses you can change what they do when the thing is locked which is perfect i changed it to fastforward/skip and made the middle button pause which is perfect.
make sure you update firmware asap updating the firmware deletes everything on the D2
Firmware upgrade ruined D2 beyond repair
- Pros: Sound quality, size, screen, potential capabilities
- Cons: Horrible Unexperienced Rude Tech Support
- Other Thoughts: This is my first bad review ever. Got D2 3 days ago, copied music/videos. Great! 8GB SDHC card arrived. Player didn't recognize it. I upgraded firmware to 2.45. Now, Music+Videos are no longer recognized by D2, but computer can see and play them. I downgraded firmware to 1 version earlier 2.41 - music plays but no videos and no SDHC card there. Tech support couldn't fix it and kept on giving wrong advice making matter worse. I asked if I should replace this defective one it with a new one. The tech support person insulted me and said that it all was my fault. Now I have MP3 player & 8GB card I can't use for $300. Fortunately, I have several other players. I am returning this one.

Wonderful!
- Pros: Works extremely well!
Good sound Quality! Mine came with a screen protector. Works nicely with Linux. Touch screen works well, even with the screen protector. Price is reasonable, especially compared other Touch screen mp3 players on the market.
- Cons: Does not play my .MP4 videos.
Great Player w/ one fatal flaw
- Pros: Simple controls
Great sound Nice applications (notepad, calculator, flash player, etc) Nice Screen Good size Good weight Good stylus (will allow me to use it even when I have fat gloves on :) ) Expandable SDHC memory with a simple firmware upgrade Easy Firmware upgrade Syncs w/ any MTP program well Loads of forum support for this
- Cons: VERY limited playlist support/capability.
Playlist only exist on certain firmwares. You can't have a playlist on the external SDHC memory play songs from the main and vice versa. Actually getting a playlist from the external memory to show up has proven to be quite a chore.
- Other Thoughts: I really like this player. It has so many cool features. However, it only gets three eggs because of its lacking in the playlist area. If you do not like tinkering, don't expect to have working playlists with this player. I am truly disappointed in Cowon for the whole playlist mess on this player. How can you get away with making a PMP capable of holding 8000 songs with no playlists?
If you like tinkering, consider this a rating of 5 eggs and get this player. You can tinker, and you CAN get playlists to work, and it makes your music sound so much better when you do :).
Very nice product
- Pros: small, inexpensive, memory expandable, plays many audio formats, no file encryption/protection, can be loaded without any special software, long battery life (I sometimes forget to turn off the player letting it go for hours, once even over night. it never drained the battery to the end. now, after over 1 year and with the card the battery life is about 20hours)
- Cons: playlist feature extremely poor, could show more id3 tag information (only artist, album and song name), music/videos on expansion card show up in a different directory - that can make navigation inconvenient.
- Other Thoughts: expanded my player immediately with an 8gb card, making it a 12 gb player (now I would rather buy the 8gb player version + a 16gb card) The battery life gets a bit shorter with the card but not too bad. What disturbs me most about the player is that there isn't really any play list support. the way it has to go is to choose a song within the player and from there adding it to the (yes, one) playlist. that means spending a lot of time on a list that can not be exported/moved/copied and won't work once the music is removed from the player. The file manager (jetShell) that comes with the player is close to useless since it doesn't do much more than the OS file manager. In fact the only unique feature that I found was the ability to queue the files before uploading them. I wish it was possible to make playlists the iTunes way.
