5 out of 5 eggsTransfer Speed

Pros: I love this player. It plays well with linux. Its small. And I've used it without charge for 1-2 weeks at a time. It's very light and fits in the palm of my hand. The line in, and recording features are great and the playback on this is smooth as butter. I personally like the UI, I like the fact that its white text on black; its easier to read in dark situations.

Cons: The transfer speed at first was really slow, but cowon posted a fix:

Other Thoughts: Sound fidelity is higher than the i-Pod

4 out of 5 eggsThis MP3 Player is good/fine

Pros: This is a very light weight capable flash player with a good size flash drive for loads of music, Perfect if you exercise a bunch, or are on the clumsier side and drop things. Flash is more durable therefore its a good workout companion, assuming you find a good armband or whatever. Also the Battery is Ridiculously long, I remember the days i was happy with 10 hours from an Ipod, This thing's battery life astounds me and continues to do so.

Cons: no playlist support, I have to cycle through artists and thats how i listen to what i want to when i want to... their answer to not having M3U support is this cute little DPL (Dynamic Play List) so basicly you can have one playlist on this thing... But if you like seperating ur genres you are up a creek with out a paddle for all intents and purposes.

you might loose the USB cable used to charge the player, because you never have to charge it! =D

Other Thoughts: I love it, hopefully some kinda patch or something makes this have playlist support so i can have all my music just like how i listen to it on my comp!

1 out of 5 eggsDont know how this device works...

Pros: Other reviewers seem to like it.

Cons: Item arrived DOA. Spent some time on a couple occasions working with chat support (only way to contact them for support is in chat through 3rd party service I cant find a US phone number anywhere) and no luck getting it to work so the support chatter said to RMA.

Documentation is horrible, dont expect any insight from the material shipped with the unit.

Other Thoughts: Response to previous reviewer: According to Cowon web site they have discovered a fix for the slow transfer speed on the 16gb model, it has to do with the way the storage is formatted 8kb blocks vs 16kb blocks. The latest shipping models are supposed to already incorporate this fix otherwise they have fairly well detailed instructions on how to fix your unit that has this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsFeatures out the wazoo!

Pros: Weighs next to nothing, and is plenty small. The sound quality is the best I've ever seen in a portable player (my X-Fi XtremeGamer soundcardbeats it anyday though) With far more audio adjustments than just your average equalizer. The OLED screen is pretty amazing too, all the colors are bright and the viewing angle is, no joke, 180 degrees with zero color distortion. I also really like the amount of different audio formats it can play, I have ogg, mp3, wma and flac files in my library and this plays 'em all.

Cons: The black plastic on this player is a fingerprint magnet. And for all those worried about the slow transfer problem, this is a know problem with a EASY FIX. Read my other thoughts for instructions.

Other Thoughts: To fix the slow transfer rate on the 16GB version of the player: 1) Make a backup (just copy and paste all the files into a folder on your computer). 2) Bring up the Computer Management porgram: Start -> Run -> "compmgmt.msc" 3) Under the "Storage" icon ont he left, click "Disk Management". 4) Right click "I AUDIO 7" and click "Format" 5) IMPORTANT: Set the "Allocation Unit Size" to 16K. Setting this to 16K is what solves the transfer porblem. 6) Press OK and let it format. 7) Once finished, copy all the files you backed up back onto the player, and if you want, put the firmware upadte files on there too! 8) And you're done! This should take you from about 1.5MB/s to 5MB/s transfer speed. Yay!

5 out of 5 eggsawesome little player

Pros: This little beauty is a basic plug and play. No complicated os, plug it in the computer reads it as a storage device. Transfer your mp3 files into the drive, charge it up and go. 16 gigs translated to 3500 songs, 2 weeks at 6-8hrs a day.

Cons: Not a con, but make sure to only load about 15 gigs, it needs a little room to work.

3 out of 5 eggsother reviewers are too optimistic

Pros: -good sound quality (with the enchancement features turned on)
-durable USB port cover
-easy to find songs - by file name or tags.
-voice recorder works well. Can record normal conversation without having it right in front of your mouth.
-good size, at least in my opinion.
-text file viewer is pretty slick.
-video viewer also works...small screen but hey, it works.

Cons: -VERY SLOW USB trasnfer rate! It saids it's USB 2.0, but putting files into the player goes at 1.5MB/sec. I don't know how other reviewers missed this. I don't think it's just my unit. Other (non newegg) reviews also have this issue. AT 16GB, it'll take almost 3 hours to fill up the drive!!! Even with the latest v1.7 firmware, this issue exists.

-even with v1.7 firmware, you can only have 4000 files max! If all your music files were 3MB, you can only use 12GB of the 16GB capacity.

-"touch" buttons are dumb. You have to turn on the "hold" switch so it doesn't activate the touch buttons while in your pocket. Want to skip to the next song? Slide the hold button off, touch the next button, slide it back into hold position. What a pain.

-10 second boot up time. I could live with that though.

Other Thoughts: To future reviewers, please comment on whether they've fixed the transfer speed issue.

I like this player. I can live with all the cons except for the transfer rate. This is 2008, we should be able to transfer data at greater than 1.5MB/sec. From what I've read, it has a slow transfer rate to the player because of poor firmware programming. The upload rate is fast. I'm not sure if there's any hope of fixing the issue via firmware changes though.

If you don't mind touch buttons, buy this player after they've fixed the transfer speed issue.

Touch buttons...I'll never understand why. The 5 directional button pad is so much better.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing rocks

Pros: Great sound, capacity, functions, and LONG battery life. Easy to figure out all the functions. NO ITUNES NEEDED. In fact if you stay away from movies (video converter needed for these) you need no software at all. I use it like a thumb drive more than anything. Home, school, and work all computers find it just fine when I need to access something in my storage folder. It also displays TXT files, this is great when studying up to the last second for a test.

Cons: ummm....ummm...ummm...It doesn't really bother me however, the video screen is quite small. I wouldn't show grandma family films on it, but it is decent for its size. If you are wanting a video player go somewere else, if you want a MP3 player with an occational video this should do fine.

Other Thoughts: Others say that transfer rate is slow compared to other MP3 players. This is my first MP3 player so comparison is hard, but it is very close to your basic thumb drive speed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat play for the price!

Pros: Great player first off, and its one of the largest Flash based players, and very reliable.
(more good notes in "other thoughts")

Cons: bought it a week ago before the price break :(

Other Thoughts: it has more audio formats then most players, plays Videos, has integrated FM Radio, it also has a built in mic, and In Audio port, that you can use to record you own sound files(in WMA format), you can also view Pictures, Text documents, adjustable equalizers and sound effects, make you feel like you listing to music on a couple hundred sound system, and comes with a USB cable and Earphones(with soft covers to put on if you want)

there are a couple of other cool features, for some it may take a few min to figure it out, there is a introduction video by Cowon that can show you about some basic functions and basics on useing the player.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MP3 Player

Pros: This is a great MP3 player. I love the sound quality, its easy to use, and the battery life is incredible. I've been using it on and off for about two weeks and I still don't need to recharge it. The FM radio works well, but I haven't tried using the recording features yet. A big plus that it can accept a wide variety of music formats including OGG and FLAC.

Cons: Don't buy it for the video, the screen is tiny. Plus you have to convert the video files to get them to work, all in all not worth the trouble.

Other Thoughts: You really can't go wrong with this little wonder. You'll be hard pressed to find all the features of the Conwon 7 in another MP3 player. This is my second Conwon MP3 player, the first was a Conwon iAudio M3 which was great too.
