2 out of 5 eggsGreat Little player

Pros: Great little Device Nice big Screen on it plays Alot of Video and Music Formats.

Cons: Super Cheap Screen i mean really you go to touch a Icon and it thinks that you hit the Next one and the Battery life is a Joke. if it was not for the Screen being pooie i would give it a 5 but that is the worst turn down for this Device and also it does not support the Drioid market so if you are hopeing for it think again and if you really need it pass this Device up. and look for something else.

Other Thoughts: they really need to test there Devices before shiping them out.

1 out of 5 eggsI Absolutely Hate This Thing

Pros: Nice Resolution

Cons: Resistive Touchscreen! Scratched, Glass screen cracked

Other Thoughts: I am usually very easy to please, but I cannot express enough my dislike for this device. It stems primarily from the extreme difficulty of utilizing anything due to the resistive touchscreen - this difficulty being exacerbated by the small size of the device. I sold a 4 yr. old Nokia N800 before purchasing the Archos, and I wish so bad I had just kept it as even as slow as it was, it was a far superior device.

As a previous reviewer pointed out, unless you have some fairly well-developed finger nails, forget about navigating with any degree of ease whatsoever. I experienced a huge level of frustration trying to use this thing at all (and I have other touch-screen devices that I do enjoy using). One might use a stylus, but the screen scratches so easily I would caution against it.

To top things off, the glass screen recently cracked, the device no longer functions, and Archos will not repair it under warranty.

I highly urge anyone considering this device to look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 eggslooked nice

Pros: product looks nice and is cheap

Cons: Feels very cheap had problems updating android reduced storage for apps makes it hard to download and save . only 256mb allocated for apps and no way to designate more space only way to make space is to transfer apps from allocated space to other memory not very user friendly archos customer services was hard to deal with got transferred 3 times and the final time was disconnected called back and got transferred another 2 times. be advised warranty does not cover touch screen!

Other Thoughts: If you buy one be very delicate with it wont take much abuse

2 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Nice size
SD Card slot
Kickstand is nice

Cons: Horrible build quality(clicks when pressing screen), Resistive touch screen, VERY SLOW BOOT, glitchy, screen scratches easily, hard to turn on from sleep mode, apps force close a lot, camera in a bad place, no direct access to android market(can be installed though)

Other Thoughts: Get the Samsung Galaxy Player instead!

3 out of 5 eggsThe first mistake I made with a purchase

Pros: 4.3 inch screen does look good
Camera looks great in good lighting
Kickstand is useful

Cons: Shoddy construction (See review below)
HDMI out was very laggy on my TV, basically pointless.
Back is a bigger scuff magnet than Ipod Touch
Resistive screen that scratches very easily

Due to running out of space in the other thoughts section, I'd just like to say that the standard software with this device (The launcher, keyboard and browser specifically) is not very good. With some proper apps and the installation of gapps for archos v2, you can have a solid and enjoyable performance from this device. Just know you will have to have a little bit of a technically inclined person do so.

Other Thoughts: First off, I'll have you know I sadly didn't buy this product with a warranty or from newegg, which if you must buy this product, I strongly reccomend you do.

I take great pride in treating electronics I own with great care. I figured seeing other reviews were just people who mistreated the device. I was wrong.
After about 2 weeks, A humidity indent appeared on the screen after taking it out of my pocket after class. The construction on this device is nothing short of cheap. The right side made a popping/click every time I pressed in on it. A week or so after that I began loosing responsiveness of the screen, and to fix it I had to grab both sides of the device and bring it apart or push it together. I kept telling myself I could live with it, but I couldn't. A few days ago the right side is completely unresponsive, and I am getting rid of this device.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST anybody looking at this device instead go look at the Samsung Galaxy players. They have much more to offer.

5 out of 5 eggsBest of Class

Pros: After doing a lot of research and checking reviews, I decided to give the Archos 43 a try. It's fast, open, and packed with features. I love the HDMI out and the apps really make it a useful portable computer. Top Pros:
Open Source
Directly accessible storage (8 + 32 G!!)
No more crApple or outrageous monthly bills
Wide variety of apps
Rootable with some effort
Great bluetooth and excellent battery life
Updated firmware and regular bug fixes improved my experience with this device with time. Archos seems to care about support.
Netflix totally works with this device and the picture quality is supurb.
Great CPU power for this class of tablet.
Overall an excellent device for the money, I recommend for anyone thinking about a tablet of this size.
Does not run IQ sense.

Cons: Resistive screen. Get a fine tipped stylus and you'll be glad.
Not a lot of memory. Use a app killer and auto kill to keep things moving.
OS can be a bit fussy and can lock up, but this has been fixed mostly with apps and firmware updates.
HDMI out is great, but don't expect 1080p. The little GPU in the archos is not going to give your Blu Ray a run for it's money.
Low memory means forget about using firefox for android.
No GPS. (But can interface with Bluetooth GPS!)
Lack of third party accessories for Archos, and Archos loves releasing 900 versions of its products all with slightly different specs and form factors so this will probably not change anytime soon.

Other Thoughts: The device is really light and the screen is really big - handle with care and common sense. Get a tough case right away and never carry it around in your pockets where it can flex.

It needs more development for root users and more ability to remove pre installed apps. I don't like google and certainly don't trust their apps with my data, so I want the ability to knock out their data mining software.

1 out of 5 eggsWOrst Touch Screen ever

Pros: Android

Cons: 1.Its the worst touch I ever had. INACURATE.
2.For the same Price you can get a Ipod Touch at big surface store (I know androids is better than APPLE OS BUT! if you want 100% quality Android device you need to spend 500$+ for a real Tablet)

Other Thoughts: Ive but this one when it was 120$ last year and now the screen is broken. I will never buy an Archos again due to the inacuracy of the touch screen. My Next device will be a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.

Note that SAMSUNG have better touch screen then the past years. Quality,Power and more

1 out of 5 eggscustomer service are liars

Pros: plays music, videos. lets you go on the internet.

Cons: the screen broke after about a month. i emailed customer service. they made me jump through a bunch of hoops to get an RMA number. i told them the screen was broke. they eventually gave me an RMA number and told me to send it in. a few days later they send me an email saying the screen isnt covered under the warranty and if they dont get a response from me within 2 days they are going to mail it back to me. they wanted like $130 to repair the screen. i can get a brand new one for about the same price. it would have been nice if they told me the screen isn't covered under the warranty BEFORE i spent money to ship it to them.

Other Thoughts: in their email to me they said if i don't respond within 2 days they will ship it back to me. 8 days later i call them to see where it is/ why its not here yet, they tell me they havent shipped it. the 2 days thing is just a scare tactict. don't let archos scare you into giving them money. they are liars. needless to say, i wont do business with them again.

1 out of 5 eggsnot satisfied

Pros: plays music, video, games. goes on internet.

Cons: screen SUCKS! my screen broke in my pocket. warranty does NOT cover the screen. they want over $100 to fix the screen. for a couple bucks more i can just buy a new one. i am dissapointed with this warranty. screen is resistive so you'd do well to get a stylus.

Other Thoughts: buy a small safe to keep it in so the screen doesnt break. you can drill a hole in the safe so you can plug your headphones into it.

3 out of 5 eggsArchos 43

Pros: The Android 2.2 platform is very nice on this, with minor updates from Archos on a fairly regular basis. It has all of the same features as an iPod Touch, except it's running Android instead of iOS.

The 4.3" screen is very nice for nearly anything you could want the device for, including videos or a bit of reading. 8GB of internal storage is plenty for most needs, and the microSD slot works great.

The camera takes acceptable pictures as long as you're not expecting extreme high-resolution stuff with no flaws. It's an MP3 player, after all.

Cons: The touch screen can be a little difficult to work with, especially if you have used capacitive screens before. It is easiest to use with a stylus of some sort, but if you use something hard as a stylus, like your finger nail, the screen will get scratched up pretty easily.

Although the camera takes acceptable pictures, the video capability leaves a lot to be desired. It could be a flaw in this particular device, or it could be in all of them, but video recording can turn green, or possibly even completely black out. The camera doesn't seem to work with anything but the apps it comes with, which is the camera app and a video chat that was difficult to setup and was removed.

There is also no access to the Android market, and Appslib is not much of a compromise. The official Android Market can be installed through Arctools on Appslib, but can make the device unstable. There's another big name appstore that works great, though.

Other Thoughts: The Archos 43 was for my wife while I got the Archos 101 for myself. Just a few weeks after getting the device, it was almost sent back for an RMA because the screen would not come back on from being asleep, but a firmware update fixed it.

For the price, it's not a bad device, but I would suggest getting something with a better screen and more reliable hardware. There aren't many Android powered MP3 players out there, so the options are limited a bit. Samsung recently release the Galaxy Player 4.0 and Galaxy Player 5.0, which are the same idea, only with Android 2.3.5 from a more reputable company and better hardware. However, those are starting at about $230 right now. That gets you a better screen, better camera, Android Market access, GPS, and better support.

If you are wanting something under $200, the Archos 43 is good enough for most uses, but I would still suggest getting something with better hardware.
