Great GPS for a great price!
- Pros: 1. Text to speech navigational instructions. This is a great feature to have on a GPS device. It makes it a a lot easier to navigate in cities where a lot of streets are close together and constantly having to look at the GPS is a hassle. With text to speech you know exactly where you have to turn. (Back in the old days you had to pay an extra 100 to 200 dollars for this feature)
2. The ability to use the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver. I actually didn't know about this when I bought the tomtom, but apparently you can buy this receiver for about $50 (from tomtom) and will be able to get live traffic info WITHOUT a subscription. That's come a long way from previous tomtoms where you needed to connect to phone data plan through bluetooth and still have to pay a subscription fee.
3. Latest Map Guarantee. You buy the tomtom and you have 30 days to download the latest map available. And its easy to do. Just download TomTom Home and click Latest Map Guarantee in the tools menu.
- Cons: None really. The only thing I noticed was that this model does not come with an SD expansion. This is only a con when you are planning on buying international maps and using them abroad. (Since you can't use an SD card, you would have to uninstall the US map, then install the international map, and then vice versa when you get back home.) But really, for $100 you might as well buy a new tomtom wherever you're going since the price of a new map is going to be only slightly less than that.
- Other Thoughts: Text to speech is the main reason I got this model. Yes, it makes that big of a difference.
good device
- Pros: good device. description is pretty accurate.
- Cons: is not blue tooth compatible
- Other Thoughts: i bought this device because it said it was blue tooth ready and it was the cheapest one that had that option, but after receiving it i found out it wasn't. other than that everything was good. fast, CHEAP shipping.
Sweet Deal
- Pros: Easy user interface, nice selection of voices (although all of them get annoying after a while), lots of POI's, data updates.
- Cons: Every once in a while, the suction gives out and it falls off the dash. My wife had one for her company car and hers actually broke that way. It's annoying, and sometimes frightening. I've had it for 3 weeks and it's probably done it 4 or 5 times.
- Other Thoughts: A bigger screen would've been nice, but that would've put a bigger hole in my wallet. It's a good value for the price (I got it refurbished for $50 after rebate).
