4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: Limited

Other Thoughts: Shoulda bought one that could be hacked to update the droid OS to 3.0 But for a reader it does its job well.

5 out of 5 eggsIts not a toy

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do and more. I have this mainly to read PDF ebooks and manuals. I pulled a loaded SD card from my Win7 laptop and stuck it in the Cruz Reader. Browsed to the files and pulled them right up. Pages load quick enough. Images and text scale just fine and that's with the stock viewer.

Cons: Resolution is not the best and its a little heavy. USB port lacks host driver, just for desktop hookup, no devices. Takes some degree of tech know how to get the most out of it.

Other Thoughts: Reads 32GB SDHC card no problems. Internal SD card can be upgraded easily. Big online user community and extensive support resources. Some of my ebooks are field guides and in color making this a pleasure to carry and browse on the go. With the right setup it connects to 802.11n!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat toy at a good price

Pros: Streaming video (free spbtv), Kindle, pdfs, stable Wi-fi connection, plays picture slide shows as good as any expensive digital frames.
Works with almost all android .apk software

Cons: Slow opening large files, requires occasional restart to detect Wi-Fi networks. Small internal memory; unable to install firefox or TuneWiki. to end video you have to drag sliding bar all the way to the end of the clip

Other Thoughts: Got this cute little tablet for valentines day. intended as book reader for my train rides initially, i found tons of use for it. I use it as tv on the patio and to read my email at work, when we have guests i play our photos. On the plane or train you can watch movies or read books. this tablet will give you your money's worth and then some. yes, its a bit slow on loading large files. think of it as a hard working mule, not a prancing thoroughbred

4 out of 5 eggsA Color Kindle for this Price

Pros: Kindle Reader available from Cruz market, plays nice with MP4 video

Cons: No access to Android Market

Other Thoughts: I've really enjoyed this device as a Kindle Reader. I had originally side-loaded a Kindle APK but an update of the Cruz Market now includes authorized Kindle, so you can get updates. For modest web browsing, Facebook updates and comic book viewing (CBR CBZ with 3rd party software) the value of this thing is amazing. Accepts all my SD cards up to 8 GB, probably higher. Battery life has been great too. A very economical alternative to more expensive tablets, hopefully newer versions will include 3G service.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat hackable little reader

Pros: Great price for an android reader. Very mod-able with a great community of modders offering hacks and speed improvements. External SD card slot for PDF and text storage. Very nice 7 inch touch screen with very usable resolution.

Cons: 7 inch screen is too small for my use, but can't beat the price. Limited 256 MB on-board memory but a hack (app2sd) increases this a lot (I've got 650 MB now). Hack needed for android market and Cruz market is very limited. Stuck at Android 2.0. It is not a tablet but can be more than just a reader. PDFs are difficult to use because they don't re-flow text the way ebooks do so they're either too small to read the whole page on the 7 inch screen or you have to move the page around if you zoom.

Other Thoughts: Glad I got it for the price. The audio is good and it does multitask (e.g. play music and read at the same time). Battery life is approaching the stated 10 hrs so not bad.

5 out of 5 eggsCruz Reader

Pros: Very upgradeable.
Works great out of the box, but you can make it rock with some customizing.
Better than the Cruz Tablet, don't waste your money.

Cons: Resistive screen (but you can get over that)

Other Thoughts: My daughter who is less than 3 years old can use this thing, so can you. The resistive screen is not as bad as most people make it out to be.
Downloaded a custom JGM ROM, put in an 8GB internal microSD, "tweaked" it to match the 800Mhz of the tablet, you can get android market to work on it, so you can put a ton of stuff on this thing. I am using Aldiko instead of the stock buggy Borders program and it is much much better, all within a week of owning my first android device. If I can do all that, so can you. I'm still finding cool stuff I can do with it. The screen is not as nice as a capacitive screen but it is not that bad either.

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing is the worst

Pros: None.

Cons: Slow and unusable. I flashed the firmware to the latest version and that did make it better but honestly this thing is horrible. It simply does not work. I dont know if I got a bad piece of hardware or what but it is very unresponsive. You have to touch it for a very long time and multiple times. I am very used to Android bases systems and a technical user. Out of the box this thing was horrible and still not any good after the firmware update.

5 out of 5 eggsxmas gift of the year

Pros: ideal size..ipad is toobig, phone too small. Can do alot for a small price..The classic books are free..turn off the television..
This can also be used for movies on a plane trip, size movies for ipod ..8gb card can hold 12 movies.

Cons: needs to be upgraded out of the box.4g of memory too small..should process divx movies.

Other Thoughts: Its a great tablet, its not an ipad.It takes a little tech ability to get things to work..once you get slide me, alkido and nook loaded it works like a charm.Edit your movies to ipad format or buy them as such and it will play them great..ACT1 is a movie player..that helps too.print up the pdf manual....if you want a long playing tablet you have to turn down the back lighting and turn off the wifi...
This will sell out long before Christmas..
The Chineseebay specials come with no warantee/support and cost more...
If you don't like the keyboard..see android tablet case keyboard..30.00 gets a case with a keyboard...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Price!

Pros: This little guy is great! Why buy a nook or kindle when you can spend a little more and get a ton of extras plus a color screen. I don't have to take my laptop with me everywhere now. I can read my books, check my email, browse the web, play games, and tons more. If you are looking for a good ereading solution, give this a shot, you won't be disappointed

Cons: N/A

2 out of 5 eggsReader of what?

Pros: Color interface, Android software, immediate access to Borders through Kodo software, a few apps that enhance viewing, and ability to tilt everything horizontally or vertically (a feature I turned off, because it unintentionally happened far too often).

Cons: No books pre-installed (despite claims otherwise); you have to download them from Border's, and that company's interface with the reader is ssslllooowww. Supposedly, Android has an app to access Kindle books, but I haven't been able to get it to work. The battery drains really fast, even in "night" reading mode, so you're pretty much tethered to the adaptor cord. The reader also doesn't let you do anything except read and turn pages -- no highlighting words and looking up their meanings, no margin notes, nothing. Very bare-bones basic. The "video" doesn't work properly. The reader is very sensitive about WiFi signals, easily losing connection. I didn't get this so I could watch videos, look at photos, or listen to music (by the way, sound reproduction is horrible); I got this to read ebooks, and as I mentioned, it barely does that well.

Other Thoughts: Apparently, almost everything that other ebook readers and tablets can do was sacrificed so Micro Velocity could keep the price down. It doesn't really do anything very well; as a matter of fact, some of its features are downright awful (see Cons). I don't know if the Cruz tablet would be any better, but if its features are as basic as the reader's, then that won't be worth buying, either. I'm seriously considering RMAing it, if I can figure out how to blank its memory. I guess this'll end up in storage soon. Very disappointing.
