2 out of 5 eggsCaution

Pros: It came charged

Cons: The phone took longer than expected to arrive. I had no communication with the seller giving me any kind of information.

When it did arrive, it would not connect with the AT&T network. I finally took it to an AT&T store for assistance. After 45 minutes the tech people there were about to give up but were willing to keep trying to satisfy me.

Finally, I said. If this thing is this much trouble finding the network now, is it possible that this might be a reoccurring problem. When they said that it might I told them to forget it. The phone would be returned.

I am now waiting for an RMA. I requested it 4 days ago and have had no contact telling me the next step. My account says that I have no pending RMA's.

I hope this will motivate someone to help me solve this issue with this phone!

5 out of 5 eggsBest smartphone on the market as of 12/1/2011

Pros: Large screen, great contrast, very responsive touch screen, super light for such a large phone, great battery life

Cons: Battery life is very short if you use live (moving) wallpapers or you keep apps open in the background. Camera is not as good as the one in the new iPhone 4s.

1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy this item from newegg

Pros: good feature set

Cons: build quality

Other Thoughts: received doa I think this return replacement policy is unfair, since its taken a few weeks to turn around the phone received by that time the 30 day return is over, chances of getting another defective phone are very high since screen and boot issues are well known. only recourse is to go through credit card company, very unfortunate.

3 out of 5 eggsNever Android Again

Pros: Larger sceen

Ability to download cracked apps

Cons: Android OS apps automatically load into memory even after you "kill" them or change settings to prevent them from starting up. This causes increased battery drain and uses internal RAM

With Unlocked version you'll have a hard time updating firmware in Android's already fragmented update process. Each carrier *may* offer an update and it's usually at different times. Unlike iPhone, the updates are carrier specific. Many people with an unbranded Android have to install a non supported firmware like a cyanogenmod.

Anti-virus apps scan AFTER you have installed the app---after you've been infected, not before installing.

Samsung Kies (similar to iTunes) is useless and problematic

Very poor product support from Samsung.

Other Thoughts: IMO, An android phone is typically a hackers device. Lots of malware out that hits the Android. If at all possible, avoid Android altogether.

They said the Galaxy 1 was better than the iPhone 4 when it came out, it was not. Now, they're saying the same about the Galaxy 2 compared to iPhone 4S. It is not with the exception of the larger screen.

If you insist on an Android OS, go for HTC who have better support and better interface.

2 out of 5 eggsSGS2 - White

Pros: Could get to spend much time with the handset to say anything.

Cons: May be a unique issue (even though I know its not) but screen defect as outlined below is a very common issue with this phone.

Other Thoughts: This is was going to be my second SGS2. I already have one in black for wife and I bought this one in white for myself.
As soon as I opened the box and turned the phone on, I noticed that left side of the screen (from border going towards the centre of the screen) had a yellow tint. This caused an unpleasant discoloration of icons and wallpaper and was really obvious on grey color. I researched and found it to be a very common issue with this phone (many forum threads found on XDA, Android Community and Android Forums etc).
Thats the reason you buy from Newegg right??? awesome customer service. I am expecting to receive a replacement handset next week. Once I get it I will be back and update this review with unit's performance and user experience.

1 out of 5 eggsLet's be honest...

Pros: Looks almost exactly like an iPhone, both the physical structure and the tweaked interface.

Cons: Poor battery life and reception (contrary to the fake reviews that state otherwise). I have a special spot in my heart for Google, but Android is just a big mess: 1) Fragmentation beyond words (developer nightmare, compatibility issues, hampers innovation), 2) Security issues (malware up 76% in Q3 2011; seemingly legit apps being approved, and subsequently steal personal information (i.e. phony NetFlix app, most recently)), 3) You are at the mercy of Samsung; OEMs tweak Android on their handsets, and they control when (or if) you receive updates, and 4) delayed responsiveness (in both interface and applications -- this is an ongoing Android issue).

Other Thoughts: The only Android phone I would ever consider buying is the official Google "Nexus," since it is the only pure Android handset; although the current generation is manufactured by Samsung (unfortunately). Might want to hold off until Google uses their new mobile division (Motorola) or gets HTC on board, for the next generation of Nexus.
