Please read the product description carefully for all unlocked cell phones.

Some unlocked cell phones sold by Newegg may have previously been locked to a specific carrier. A carrier-locked cell phone may often have carrier-specific applications and branding. Some of these applications cannot be unlocked and/or may not function with a different carrier. Also, applications requiring a data plan may result in data usage charges from the original carrier.

In addition, the cell phone box may arrive unsealed and the cell phone may appear previously handled. The unlocking procedure requires unsealing the box and manually handling the cell phone. In this case, the cell phone should not be considered “tampered with” or “defective”.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to the review of 6/14/2011

Pros: After a month of use, the phone certainly deserves a better rating. The “touch-and-feel” is really good (I would prefer a Palm Treo keyboard, but E5 is not bad either). The battery life is amazing, even given that I do not use it for power-hungry things (video, wifi, or data). Nokia promised Symbian update soon (at least demonstrated some kind of no-neglect).

Cons: Additional cons: Camera is really bad. Ovi Suite can be much better. Requires MS Outlook for synching the calendar. Ovi Suite messes up with the files in picture folders (deletes the files as opposite to deleting the shortcuts), but there is no need to use the Ovi Suite for transferring music or photos (can do the same in mass storage mode).

Other Thoughts: Overall, it is a very good choice for conservative users (conservative defined as NOT email-facebook-twitter-web-addicted). I kind of regretted that I did not buy a screen protector and a protective case, because I like the phone and would like to hold on it longer than initially intended (if, hopefully, Nokia survives 2011).

3 out of 5 eggsMixed feelings

Pros: Has the features I wanted: phone, contacts, calendar, free navigation, occasional texting, unlocked. Nice touch and feel. The hardware looks solid. Easily fits to shirt or pants pocket. No need to worry about the touch screen.

Cons: Concerns about Nokia's support of Symbian in the future (the minus 2 eggs in the rating). Camera is not good. Does not play videos from my damaged Xpress 5800 (not that it promised, but still, why not). GPS takes a while to connect.

Other Thoughts: Android or iPhone are probably better, but owning one will cost extra $1,200 or so over the 2-year contract with data plan (actually, does not make much sense to have one with no data plan). I do not have one, I do not want one, I do not need one with Nokia E5.

3 out of 5 eggsmeh...

Pros: If you are use to the Nokia smartphone interface, its pretty similar (which is a plus for me). Also the customization you can do with your menu buttons, ringtones, and data service management is great (ie using wi-fi unless requesting by the user otherwise). The battery life is awesome and I love there are keys to turn Bluetooth on and off (surprisingly, so phone do not have that)

Cons: Camera - I don't know if anyone has this same opinion but I feel like my 3.0 took 10 times better and clearer pictures. I used my old Nokia a lot for pictures and video so this is a pretty big con for me

Other Thoughts: I loved my E63 but after dropping it one too many times, I had to purchase another device. So for me moving from one Nokia to another was a very simple adjustments. I can see where people would not like the Symbian platform. I probably would recommend the E63 over this phone from my personal experience. However, I do like the phone. I just don't 'Love' it

3 out of 5 eggsMeh. Not impressed

Pros: Good specs. It's actually decently fast. Price is good. I actually LIKE the D-Pad verses a trackbad or trackball. Can be a bit slow to scroll sometimes, but really much more accurate and at times even quicker than other means of moving the phone around. The free apps (like the office app) might just make this the right phone for a business person who isn't looking for a threaded email or sms feature. And it can hold up to a 16gb card? Also it comes with ovi maps and the ovi suite can be installed from the phone when you plug it in (the ovi suite and tethered connection setups are on the phone to be used in autoplay). The tethered connection (although slow because I have t-mobile edge) is SO easy to set up (you hit install, connect, and boom you're good). When you plug in the cord (although the cord is like 4 inches it's ridiculously short) to the computer you get 4 options - internet, mass storage, media, ovi suite. It's a manageable phone. Newegg of course on point with shipping

Cons: Symbian. Ive heard good things about Nokia and wanted to give symbian a try. Quite frankly. Other more well known smartphones are better. The Symbian OS is not really user friendly. If you text message a lot. Do NOT get this phone. A) the keyboard is terrible in my opinion. No raised keys and the layout is just strange compared to any phone I've used. The bottom row (z-m) is shifted over one key, which you never see on a qwerty keyboard, theres always a shift key or symbol key or something. B) NO THREADED TEXTING. Really Nokia? Get with it eeeeverything else does threaded texting. It's a simple concept that really takes away from any sort of messaging capabilities of the phone. Not only is there no threaded texting, but it's a separate inbox and outbox, so no hitting "previous" to read text convos in order. Audio player, eh. Games? None and any game you get for free off ovi store requires a data connection for ads. The ovi store in of itself. Flooded with useless apps and glitchy

Other Thoughts: Other apps like google maps don't really work as well for this as they do for blackberry (not really designed for this). However. I gave it 3 stars because it's cheap and when it works it's fast. Mine randomly freezes and reboots now, another problem I'm having which hopefully a software update will change. It's not a horrible smartphone. However, it is clear that Nokia did not think this one out or (in my opinion) they didn't think Symbian out at all. The hardware isn't bad and it's a shame they put such an unthought out unifinished OS on here. I'm not completely turned off of Nokia though. The phone shows promise but I think I'll wait it out for lots of reviews before I buy another phone from them. If you're looking for just a phone to use for media and messaging, go look at another phone (without Symbian). It will serve your purposes much better. Sorry Nokia I really tried but this OS is quite frankly just not well thought out.
