I was wondering, the product has 8 Channels but only comes with 4 cameras. Will I be able to add any other camera from the KGuard product line or will I need to purchase another 600 TVL camera?

Actually, any camera with a BNC termination will work. You don't have to buy the same camera (or brand).

Does this DVR include the hard drive?

Comes complete and ready to go!  A 500 Gb hard drive is installed.  Also, there are instructions to replace the drive yourself if ever needed.  I am currently running 5 cameras and have over 30 days of history maintained on the hard drive.

I am very pleased with the Kguard product.  Remote viewing has been a wonderful option from my smartphone.

Yes it did. Mine had a 500 gig laptop hard drive. It also has a bay for a desktop size hard drive. You can barely see it through the vents. Also download everything you can find for this thing. It has a learning curve. After a couple of days I am quite happy.

Under Specifications it says Remote control: Yes. What does this mean? Are these cameras fixed or remote control?

A remote comes with the security system to control the black box. You're able to access the options via the box itself but the remote also enables you to access the features as well.

The cameras are fixed, they do not rotate but stay in one place.

are the cameras wireless?

No. It comes with one 60ft cable per camera (four total). Each cable carries power and video but no audio. The DVR supports audio but the supplied cameras do not.

How are these cameras powered? Is it over the video cable or through the power adapter? If adapter how many come with the kit?

Accepted Answer

The power to the cameras is supplied through the BNC cables that come with the unit.   Alternatively, you could run Cat5e cable with a balun adapter to supply power and transmit video (not included).  The power supply for the cameras is co-located with the DVR and the BNC cable has a power plug on both ends.  When you see it, it will make sense.  Just make sure that when you are running the cable, that you have the proper connector on the DVR side and the camera side (ie. one side has a male plug, and the other a female plug).  It would be a real pain if you ran the cable through walls and ceilings only to find out you got them backwards.   It's a good idea to hook this system up and test it for a week or two before permanent installation to make sure the camera's and cable function properly.  This is my third K Guard system and I have never had an issue, but if you do, you must return the entire system to Newegg, cables and all (not just the defective camera or DVR).

How long is each (BNC to RCA)video cable in the Kit?

Is the BNC cable also power for the camera?

I would approximate the BNC cable length at 75ft. The BNC does not supply power for the camera. The cable is a siamese cable (2 cables fused together) and has a separate DC cable attached with the appropriate DC jack to mate to the camera. These cables are thin and cannot tolerate much heavy pulling. If you plan on routing thru walls and long runs, it's better to get a RG59/RG-6 siamese cable. The finished product will be much more durable.
