I see Netflix is listed, but can I load other apps on this unit also? Hulu for example...

This is a low end cheap 3D blue ray DVD player.
You can only access two non-free channels (Netflix and Vudu) via this model and no other channels are available. 
Had I known the limitation of this unit, I would have spent more $ to get other DVD players like SonyBDP-S5100 or Samsung BD-F5900.    Other thought – get Roku 2 or 3 stream player, which I am getting one soon and believe it can access 1000+ channels.

No. It converts 3d to 2d. It has an automatic setting which automatically senses the input content and plays accordingly. It also has apotions of 3d->3d and 3d->2d.
