5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: So far this unit has worked great! Slingbox ratings are not good so when I found Monsoon I was very intrigued. It was everything I hoped, very easy to setup with my Comcast DTA. Includes IR blaster, I stream to my bedroom at highest quality and to my work at hightest quality.
I am very happy with this purchase.

Cons: I wish it was not quite as wide but it's not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: If you are considering Slingbox or the MOnsoon products based on my experience go Monsoon.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than the "other" brand you're considering

Pros: Better interface, easier setup, built-in wireless, doesn't self destruct after a few months like the "other brand" box, app for mobile devices is half the price of the "other" mobile app. Results over 3G seem better as well. My Vulkano has been running 24/7 for over six months with no problems whatsoever.

Cons: Design prevents stacking other components on top.

Other Thoughts: If you're thinking of buying the "other brand" box, buy this instead.

5 out of 5 eggscompare to Slingbox AV

Pros: price, setup, quality of picture. On local viewing it used only 2.5mb. picture quality kicks theear but of the slingbox av using 4.5mb. The slingbox av i have is almost 5 years old so i don't know if the newer slingbox solo is better.

Cons: First when I attempted using on an older pc the player kept cutting out and picture lagged. Setting lower resolution to lower bandwidth used by streaming does not work.

Other Thoughts: I have a slingbox av for 5 years and needed another place shifting device. I searched around and was gonna pull the trigger on a slingbox solo. Having the slingbox and used it I can tell you its a mature product but the biggest shortcoming of slingbox are 2.
1)you have to use wired or you have to add an ethernet bridge. no build in wireless.
2)slingmedia stoped making the slingcatcher. so it is impossible to show on a tv without using another pc at the catching end. with the vulkano you can use a vulkano lava to catch from the flow.

4 out of 5 eggsA Sling Replacement

Pros: I bought this to replace an old Slingbox Classic after the bad reviews on the Slingbox's. I owned the SB for about 6 years and all that went wrong was the power supply 2x. The new ones, well a different story... read reviews on them if interested...

Vulkano Flow:
~easy installation if you take your time. Most of it is automatic as you answer questions. Ports may need to be opened manually.
~802.11n and wired network capable
~price was better (cheaper) than alternatives
-unit was package nicely and included composite, component, ir, and network cables

Cons: Well, if I read the description carefully I would have know that a STB is kinda required. There is no coax connector like the SlingBox has. I did get away with using an old VCR/DVD machine instead of hooking up to my STB. No reason to remove an egg as most will want to connect to STB.

~setup with wired, static IP but on next boot, the Vulkano couldn't connect to it? Hooked it up wireless (dynamic) for now.
~ir configuration didn't work for Type/Model so I had to learn the ir commands.
~kinda large in size and since it does heat up a bit, it should be unobstructed to allow air flow.
~linked to Vulkano server for authorization so if anything happens, it might be a useless piece of electronics?

Other Thoughts: I have it streaming video and works as described even though some extra setup time was involved. I basically use it to watch TV in the basement while in the workshop.

If I had to do it over, in my case without a STB available, I would probably go with the Slingbox and replace the bad caps. I won't return it as it works for now...

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well- just be aware of its limitations

Pros: Setup was pretty easy. I installed mine via a network switch rather than directly to the router, and everything works fine. Also works perfectly with the iPhone app. (When I first ran the setup, the software said it couldn't find the device on the network- turning it off and on fixed that. That was the only problem I had during setup).

Cons: The only con I have is that the Flow doesn't allow you to schedule recordings, and it doesn't integrate with Windows Media Center. Those are major disappointments for me (and possibly the reason for the no refund thing), but it's still a good buy for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent TV streaming solution

Pros: Installation is as easy as installing your cable box. Configuration is another story. You can download their install guide before buying if needed. For most users it’ll be a simple and easy configuration as Vulkano tried to automate every step to include configuring port forwarding on your firewall/router. However, if you utilize Splashtop or some other program to remote control your home PC, you might have to reconfigure a few rules that are already in your firewall.

Cons: Upon hookup the PC software couldn’t find my Vulkano Flo despite the fact that I was able to ping it. Simple reboot of the device fixed it. I wanted to be able to hit my FIOS 35/35 static IP for watching streaming but have to utilize a Vulkano account and password to do that. The quality on my tablet on the same network is less than expected. I expected that quality to compare to Hulu or Netflix and it falls short. Have to pay $12.99 for Android app for device viewing. Quality on my Verizon 4G LTE is about the same quality as my tablet that’s on my home network.

Other Thoughts: Your Lava Flow will need TCP 49177 and TCP & UDP 56123 assigned to the IP of your Lava. Check for other program conflicts first as you might end up rendering your remote PC program useless in order to use your Lava flow. If this is Greek to you then order pizza and beer and have your tech friend over for the install. All in all I'm happy with the purchase and would do so again. This accomplishes what I wanted.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: I was a bit of a skeptic when I bought this based on it being so much cheaper than a sling box. I saw a great deal on it (79) and I couldn't pass it up. Setup was fairly smooth, and the instructions (online) were pretty accurate. Plugged it in, ran the setup utility on my computer and setup was complete. I have ATT Uverse and there was an option for setting up the correct remote. On the PC its an exact view of the remote and all the buttons work correctly. To access it outside of my network I did have to unblock some UDP and TCP ports on my router. After that setup was complete.
I also have an HTC Evo 3D and Asus Transformer, so I purchased the Android App for 12.99. Works great! Remote for the mobile app isn't perfecty mapped, not all buttons are available, but the necessary ones are. Streaming on 3g is not horrible if the signal is strong, on 4G its flawless! But it eats up a lot of data, wouldn't recomment w/o unlimited data plan. Iphone/Ipad ap works equally as well as Android

Cons: When accessing from outside, sending multiple remote commands can cause the box to buffer, especially if connection speed is slow.
Uses a lot of data. Watching about 2 hours = about 1GB of data when on 4G.

1 out of 5 eggsMonsoon Vulkano Flow

Pros: Looks slick

Cons: Regardless of what it says on the box, after HOURS of troubleshooting with overseas tech support (not always very easy to understand...), and a week later, I finally got out of them that the device OS does not play nicely with Mac OS X 10.7.3 AND they didn't know when it will! Thankfully NewEgg was very understanding...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

Pros: I am able to stream 720x480 through a 6 down / 1 up with my cable provider. Hiccups occasionally happen at this resolution / speed, but this is due to the connection speed and is not related to the box.

Very easy to set-up.

Cons: Cannot specify the direct IP address of the box. Contacts Monsoon servers to verify your credentials and connect to the box. This can be a problem down the road if Monsoon's servers ever go down. This is not really a con as it works just fine right now.

Android application is not free, even though Windows / Mac software is.

Other Thoughts: When connecting the Flow via component cable, you also need to connect the audio cables since component is only the video stream. The manual does not give a very thorough description of how to properly set the unit up and omitted this information. This might be a problem for anybody who is not familiar with component video.

I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is considering purchasing a SlingBox Solo as this functions the same.
