Pros: Receiver has HDMI repeater (passes audio through HDMI to TV) which means no need for separate audio cables to HDTV. This also allows for watching of TV while having a separate audio source playing through receiver speakers. (i.e. -- Playing video game while listening to music)
Allows for 7.1 and 5.1 setups, among other lower settings as well. Auto calibration of speakers through included mic. Unique settings for each input allows you to save settings based on input type (i.e. - multi-channel stereo for FM tuner and 5.1 surround for HDMI input). Ability to work with iPod dock, although I haven't used it.
Contrary to documentation, HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync) works with non-Sony brand TVs (although this feature is quite limited in functionality, mentioned in Cons). I'm using it with LG 42" LCD. Doesn't run too hot either.
Screw plug speaker inputs rather than spring loaded inputs so wires stay in place.
Energy Star compliant.
Cons: Although remote has plenty of controls for receiver, universal controls are somewhat limited and borderline useless for controlling anything outside of a TV (on/off, channel/volume) and a DVD/BD player. I would definitely suggest a Harmony or comparable remote.
HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync) is borderline useless since it only has abilities to turn TV off automatically, but not on. This may be a non-Sony brand TV issue (I have an LG TV), but from research I've done (Engadet's short article on the STR-DH800 for one), it appears to affect Sony brand TVs as well. Overall this feature is just a bullet point and really should be treated with any expectations, regardless of receiver manufacturer.
Does not allow for passthrough of component input video through HDMI output to TV. I believe this is an issue with a lot of receivers, but would still be appreciated.
Other Thoughts: I got this unit when it was on sale at Newegg for $279 ($130 off regular price at the time) and it is definitely worth it. Feature for feature, this receiver stacks up nicely compared to other, comparable receivers. Although I'm def no audiophile, the quality sounds great through my Polk Audio 5.1 speakers.

Great unit for the price

Pros: Price, decoders, power, quality of sound is above average for the price range. Setup is straight forward reading the manual.
Cons: Big time con, no on screen menu. Pain to keep getting up to see what exactly is going on with surround sound settings. The screw downs for the speaker wires are somewhat combersome but banana plugs will plug right in to skip that hassle. Using Ps3 as blueray player through hdmi will not light up Dobly Truehd indicators nor dts hdma. PS3 seems to do the decoding and passes it along to the unit and then you have to convert 5.1 to 7.1 by using one of the surround settings.
Other Thoughts: Lack of on screen display is perplexing a real pain Hopefully, I have just missed it somehow but....I don't think so.

Pros: Replaced a 12 year old Sony STR-DE925, which was state of the art home DTS receiver at that time, only because I needed the HDMI connections for my equipment. The receiver is in my bedroom and connected to Bose cube speakers. The new Sony receiver was easy to setup and easy to use. I have only a few wires with the HDMI setup. Also sounds great. I am planning to buy a 2nd STR-HD800 receiver to replace the one in my living room because I am so impressed with my first receiver.
Cons: Text on the receiver screen is small and hard to read at any distance and with the HDMI connections also carrying video, it would be nice if Sony also briefly placed the text on the TV screen while entering changes with the remote. I am not able to use the remote on my Vizio TV and cable box, so I am purchasing a Logitech Harmont to control everything.

Pros: Unable to determine.
Cons: Product was dead on arrival, so I now have to pay to have the item shipped back for replacement. It's the cost of doing business, but a frustrating experience. Hopefully this does not become a trend for this product.

Pros: Xvcolor and deep color work great on my tv. Newer ps3 will bitstream audio through hdmi with this receiver. 7 HD capable hookups.
Cons: No upconverting of component inputs through hdmi. Had to trade my motorola MOXI for a different hdmi capable dvr.
Other Thoughts: Manual is next to useless for troubleshooting. I've owned five different Sony receivers in the past and this one is the biggest let down with the lack of upconverting and the hassle I went through to figure that out, but almost makes up for it with other features.
