Go big with Yamaha's NS-777 speakers. These speakers have a 3-way/4-driver configuration for great sound response over the full 30Hz to 35KHz frequency response range. Dual 8" PMD woofers handle the low end while a 5" cone and 1" aluminum dome tweeter, both with waveguide horns, deliver the mids and highs.

The speakers are wired internally with Monster Cable™ to make sure that there is no signal loss within the speaker. You can bi-wire the speakers separating the bass out to further reduce modular distortion and increase sound purity.

The piano black cabinets are magnetically shielded so you don't have to worry about distortions from the magnetic fields affecting your TV. The grill cover is acoustically transparent so you don't lose any sound quality while maintaining the cabinet's stunning good looks.

  • newegg Three-Way/Four-Driver Bass Reflex Speaker System The Yamaha NS777 incorporates a pair of 8" Polymer-Injected Mica Diaphragm (PMD) cone woofers, a 5" midrange cone driver and a 1” aluminum dome tweeter to deliver crisp highs and accurate lows even at high power levels, ideal for home theater applications.
  • newegg Improved Imaging The midrange and tweeter utilize Yamaha's exclusive Waveguide horns to greatly reduce reflected sound and increase the proportion of directly generated sound waves reaching your ears, resulting in a clear, precise sense of sound direction and placement.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Yamaha NS777 can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.
  • newegg Elegant Elliptical Form Cabinet The Elliptical Form speaker cabinet with a luxurious, high-gloss piano finish provides solid construction with minimum sound diffraction while adding a touch of elegance to your home theater system.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers

Pros: LOUD, wide range of sound, long lasting, interior MONSTER CABLE connections for speakers. Piano Finish!

Cons: Wish my receiver outputted more power to run these speakers to the max.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy these on newegg, but bought them back in 2003 from a B&M entity, b/c i got employee discount on them.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT SOUND!!!

Pros: These babies are great! Generally speaking, I can hear all the minor differences in all audible circumstances like MP3 compression, bass cutoffs etc. I mean, I hear phones ringing before they ring! These speakers with my new Yamaha 6160BL offer a superior sound quality that has changed my appreciation for digital sound technology. Even ~160kpbs MP3s sound fantastic now!

Bass response is great. Subs would improve this.
Full - beautiful - crisp - responsive sound at a discount.

Cons: I ordered 4 of these when on sale for ~199. I got two within 5 buisiness days. UPS tracking showed that the other two (shipped separately??) were damaged in transit and being sent back(?) A later same-day tracking post said "I" 'turned down the shipment' (!!!)
UPS isn't the most trustworthy company. Sometimes they leave notes on the door saying they tried to deliver but no one was home. My two intruder alert systems (dogs) told me that no one rang or knocked on the door...why is the UPS driver so lazy about knocking on the door? I work at home...i'm home 99% of every day...seriously people...where are my two speakers?!?

Other Thoughts: I called Newegg to tell them what was up. The awesome CS rep read the tracking report and offered a full refund for all 4 (?!?!) speakers or to ship new ones.
I couldn't lie...I told her I had two of them, somehow they shipped separately, and to please ship just 2 new ones. I have not recieved them yet...I have to wait ~8 business days.
This will complete my new Theatre Room.

4 out of 5 eggsYAMAHA NS-777

Pros: The pros for this speaker lay in the fit and finish of the speaker itself. Very nice piano black with very nice edging. The overall sound of this unit is on par with a speaker in the $500 to $700 range. So, good speaker for the money. Don't expect the level of B&W, Canton, Paradigm or other well respected high end speakers, but then again you can't get those speakers for $199 plus free shipping. For this price go get a pair, you will not be disappointed, unless your were hoping for these to sound like a pair of wilson's.

Cons: Big con that no one has mentioned is the shiny black finish. Now I know that I listed the finish as a plus (which it is), but that shiny surface reflects the image from the screen in a dimmly lit theater room. These were placed in my theater and within seconds I could see that it was a potential problem. Each time the screen would change scenes you could see it plain as day in the reflection. Something to think about when you purchase these. The sensitivity rating is 89, which is moderate. Most modern day receivers should have enough power to push these, but it would be nice to have the sensitivity a little higher (a rise of just 3 decibles increases the power rating two fold). Other than that no complaints.

Other Thoughts: would have given the speaker 5/5 rating (in my situation) if the finish would not have benn so reflective. But 5/5 for anyone else wanting a great speaker for the price. These replaced my NHT's. Another speaker

5 out of 5 eggsCan't be beat for the buck!

Pros: I'm a piano tuner and professional pianist, so I know a little about what sounds good. Beleve me, these sound good. Very, very good. Sound is bright, clear as a bell, and well balanced, with a moderate emphasis toward the high end. A very slight high frequency scratchiness was evident to me from the tweeter when reproducing wailing rock guitar (probably just high harmonics), easily tamed by adjusting the highest band of my Onkyo equalizer by -1db. In fact, the auto setup of many of today's receivers will balance the output across the frequency spectrum. With Onkyo, it's called Audyssey and it does a nice job. At $199, they are a steal. At $299 they are a steal. Quality and appearance is first rate. They finish is better than a new Cadillac car. The protective shipping covers for the speaker terminals were made of metiulously machined and glued MDF. Increible. They could have used styrofoam. This, to me, speaks of the quality throughout. Believe me, these speakers will make you happy.

Cons: Big and heavy, but I didn't buy them to carry around. The feet are steel with plastic caps and up to the task.

Other Thoughts: Out of the box you may get the impression that bass is lacking. Not true. They are very capable of producing strong bass and low frequency effects. This is what equalizers are for. If you're not happy, customize your sound. Having said that, I like them just the way they are. Although I could have done without it, I did add a 10" Velodyne subwoofer. After all, the lowest A on a piano is 27.5 hz and I couldn't live without that (what I told my wife)!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent For The Price!

Pros: These speakers are down right the best you can buy in their price range. They offer you great sound that normally requires two to three times the budget.
They are classified as a three way because of the three way internal crossover design. Giving a nice separation between the high, mid, and lower frequencies. There are dual 8 inch drivers paired together to create the same frequencies range with a slim form factor.
Overall, the speakers feel very balanced. Measuring with a rta and a nady mic reveal they indeed do have a relatively flat frequency response. This prevents the sound from being muddied and overpowered when you get to reproducing complex sound stages. Some may prefer a speaker that does have a large peak within parts of the frequency range, but these preferences are usually due to varying frequency sensitivities per the individual. If your hearing is in good shape, you should enjoy the flat response these give.

Cons: There are a few things. It is obviously the linearity of the frequency response is affected by the non-linear functioning impedance of components of the crossover design. I'm sure this decision was to save money, so it may not be considered a con if you factor in the price savings. If you're a good DIY with some EE experience, i'd look into replacing some of the components with equal ratings but better linear impedance across the frequency range.
Some say the bass is also a little weak. I feel the bass is more controlled. A lot of people get used to the boomy, hit you in the chest bass, but a well designed speaker will feature controlled, flat bass. Bass that you can hear, but bass that blends in with the rest of the audio. This may be a con to some, but not me. If you do feel the bass is weak, pair them up with a good sub.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these speakers for my two fronts, and have two more on the way. These are paired up with a Yamaha htr-5860 receiver, two home made subwoofers, and soon two more of these for my rear.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Sound

Pros: Sound is amazing, I have them hooked up to my Yamaha HTR-6160. BluRay movies sound great and so do all of my PS3 games.

The piano black cases look very nice and well made.

Cons: Very Heavy and awkward to carry

The packaging was damaged and torn open when arrived, I dont think this occurred during shipping.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend banana connectors and good quality speaker wiring like Monster Cable.
I'm using all Yamaha components center, front, sub-woofer, and receiver the system sounds amazing, my recommendation is to piece together a home theater system and not buy a system in a box, the difference is very noticeable.

5 out of 5 eggsNS-777 SPEAKERS

Pros: This set of speaker by Yamaha are the best speakers I have ever heard. They even sound better then the Bose set I recently had hooked up to my receiver. There slick with an automotive paint job. Highs and lows, these baby's can handle both without a hick-up, plus with not distortion what so ever with the volume all the way up!!!! Also bi-ampable! VERY NICE!!

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: Well worth the money spent on these floor standing noise producers!!!!
