5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Excellent quality in every respect. I wish it had a coax and not just an optical output, since coax can go a longer distance.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic receiver!

Pros: Even though it only has HDMI ports, it DOES support HDCP over DVI. My older HDTV only has a DVI port and my sources require HDCP-compliant devices. This receiver strips the audio and passes HDCP-protected content through an HDMI-to-DVI cable. This is surprisingly rare.

The sound is phenomenal on "pure direct" (which any audiophile will be interested in). The various CinemaDSP modes are good for gaming, but add too much to movies. And the upmixers for audio (2ch -> 2.1ch and 2ch -> 7.1ch) give you options for making the most out of high-end audio equipment.

The on-screen setup and control is crazy-helpful. You'll wonder how you survived without it.

I thought the Android app was a novelty. Too much lag to replace the remote completely, but you can use it from anywhere that you have Wi-Fi reception. With second zone use you'll find that the Android app is super useful for controlling the receiver when its out of sight.

Cons: The only con that I can think of relates to the volume control; it comes in discrete units of 0.5dB. There's nothing actually wrong with it (you can always find the "right" volume), but it means that at some point in the audio path your signal is being truncated in a digital processor instead of with an analog attenuator. You decide if that's important. It doesn't adversely affect the sound.

Upmixing from 2ch to 2.1ch (to use a sub) is confusing. The setting is called "extra bass." For an audiophile, you don't want "extra bass" you want a subwoofer crossover. Took me a while to figure it out. FYI, it does NOT add extra bass, it just uses an adjustable crossover to direct sound to the subwoofer pre-out.

Other Thoughts: If you can't get your movies and music to sound great with this receiver it is YOUR FAULT. All of the technology, features, and hardware are here for you.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for the Buck!!

Pros: Super easy to set up.
7.2 surround.
Runs cool.
Lots of connections.
Supports Pandora.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I replaced my Harman/Kardon that went belly up after about 2.5 years of usage with this unit. Honestly, this is not sound as superb as the H/K i had, but its pretty good. But then again, H/K costs at least twice. But what I do like about this Yammy is that it runs almost twice as cooler than the H/K. Plus the audio calibration is much more accurate and responsive. H/K calibration was just bad. I think overall I am happy with my purchase, though I do miss the deep sound of H/K. I just hope that this receiver will last as long as Yamaha's are known to last... like forever, until i decide to upgrade. :)

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

Pros: 5 HDMI inputs
Local Network Streaming/Internet Streaming
Price (I stole it from the egg for $ 4 o o dollars including free shipping)
2 zones function separate of each other i.e. you can have zone one playing movies and zone 2 streaming music from Pandora!
The GUI is amazing, for anyone complaining about the GUI being outdated, suck it... you should have seen the GUI on an RX467!!!! "even a cave-man would have been disgusted"
The ability to upgrade the firmware via the network is superb
It doesn't get as hot as my old yamaha :)

Cons: I wish it could streams my avi files from my NAS!!!
I would have gladly paid double the price for this receiver so that I can stream videos from my NAS

Other Thoughts: sucks for you because the egg discontinued this model

Hopefully yamaha will keep releasing firmware upgrades for this little guy

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Everything that has already been said, looks nice, many nice options, muliple zones for a good price, pleanty of HDMI ins/outs (for now), the setup is really easy and the fact it tells you if your wires are backwards in the reciever is nice as I dont have color coated wires.

Cons: Everyone claimed that had amazing shipping and said it was super fast, I ordered my reciever on Wednesday @ 7am est (so 4am newegg time) and I paid the extra for have the processing done faster ($3) and I didnt get my reciever until the following Monday which to me seems like a long time. Never got my $3 refunded, oh well.

Other Thoughts: I bought the Yamaha v471 at best buy for $329 and loves it, the next day i was looking on newegg and I saw this reciever was on sale for $399 and it came with multiple zones, more hdmi ins/outs and it was 7.1 instead of 5.1. I looked around online to see how much it cost on other sites and newegg was the cheapest by $100!!

5 out of 5 eggsYAMAHA RX-V867 - Rock on Yamaha

Pros: This receiver replaced a $1,000 Harman Kardon model that I purchased three years ago. The sound may not be quite as rich as the Harman Kardon (I noticed a slight difference when I first hooked up the receiver, but cannot tell now), but the features and price blow the Harman Kardon out of the water.

Further, my HK was in the shop within the first month for a sound problem (and the replacement receiver had the same issue intermittently). So I paid $1,000 for a new Harman Kardon receiver and had a refurbished model 30 days later. Pathetic. A month into ownership of my new Yamaha receiver, it still works. lol. And I push my receiver hard - it never goes off. I use it for music and all tv viewing.

Overall, this Yamaha RX-v867 receiver rocks. I will never go back to Harman Kardon after getting this little sophisticated monster. The technology is moving too fast to spend more than $500 on a receiver. So get the Yamaha - you will be very impressed.

Cons: None really. Just a tremendous deal. It has my Klipsch speakers rocking the casbah! Listening to Rev Theory as I type this review. I wish it played nicer with OSX, but it's flawless with MS Windows.

Other Thoughts: Yamaha is going to be my receiver of choice for many years to come if this performance continues. I like to upgrade my receiver every 24-36 months, and the price and quality of this Yamaha are unbeatable. Onkyo and Pioneer do not compete.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver at this price

Pros: Future Proof:
- Can add a projector to my HT later with the 2nd HDMI
- Supports HDMI 1.4 and 3d HDMI passthrough
- YPAO setup was a breeze, it noticed I had reversed the wiring on my rear surround and I fixed it.
- Preouts for 2 subs
- Zone 2 for outdoor use or bedroom use with the 2nd hdmi out instead of the projector.
- Have my pc setup to host video and audio and work flawlessly.
- Internet radio is a nice feature
- Firmware update was really simple

Cons: Cons
- Unit is a little bigger than I expected, had to get a new entertainment center to get the advised 30cm top clearance.
- Remote is not great, but solved with necessary universal remote anyways

Other Thoughts: This is a premium receiver at a mid range price. Highly recommend as the performance-features versus price beats anything else I could find.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Receiver, great price, perfect for your home theater!

Pros: Incredible Sound
-Future Proof (unlike the RX-V#71 series)
-YPAO for auto-calculated speaker levels
-Pandora, Internet Radio (Radio Swiss Jazz channel is soooo good!), Stream Bill Simmons podcast, Napster, Rhapsody, SIRIUS, & DLNA to connect to all your PCs on your network
-Nice and easy to use UI, for a Receiver
-Has an HDMI IN on front for easy temporary connections
-Reliable/trustworthy company (unlike Onkyo), with good customer support from my 1 call-in experience
-Always best to buy sound equipment from a company that is based on specializing in instruments/music/sound
-Great Price & free shipping from Newegg

Cons: -No USB ports...The YDS-12 Dock & YID-W10 are a crock of ****, so overpriced....I just use my Blu Ray player's USB port since that runs through the receiver and has a nicer UI
-No built in WiFi, which doesn't really matter to me since my router is right behind my home theater system and direct connections runs faster/smoother anyway
(Note: if you're just starting your home theater system this is the way to go, as I've saved $200+ on my Blu Ray player, XBOX360, and receiver not having WiFi built in and I get faster download/upload speeds via direct connection)

Other Thoughts: I have no idea why there are 2 HDMI outs or how/why you'd use both?
I'm running this with:
-Polk Audio PSW505 sub
-Polk Audio CS1 Series II
-Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II x2
-Polk Audio Monitor40 Series II x2
-Polk Audio RM7 Satellite B x2
It sounds AMAZING (Polk speakers are a must) and all purchased for a great price through Newegg...used M0N0PRICE for cables/wires/accessories though

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver for the money

Pros: This is just a great receiver, and for the money, tough to beat. I have mine networked, and am using a Buffalo NAS unit for all the media content. Love the second zone, and the iphone/ipad app makes grilling in the backyard great, never have to go inside. For those complaining about no prointed manual, email it to your ipad, problem solved.

Cons: None so far
