YAMAHA RX-V373BL 5.1-Channel AV Receiver

Pros: Expense to feature ratio is pretty good

Cons: I've seen this issue on at least one other review here, so it must be a common issue with this receiver. The receiver stops recognizing HDMI Input and requires reset back to factory defaults, reboot and then you're back in business.

Other Thoughts: I won't purchase another Yamaha product due to this frustration. Plus, this occurred for the first time one month after my year warranty expired. First Sony, now this...who should I try next?

Pros: great for a small home theater, 3D pass-through does work

Pros: Like the 2nd optical AV input. Using that to make use of playing mp3's out of a onboard realtek SC on compu.. That way I can listen to one card for my 2 channel dedicated music and If I want to switch it up I can run it on the Polk entertainment surrounds just to change it up. Fun switching between them with software controls. It's all about control really.

Cons: Nothing really so far considering the price was value/quality does what I wanted it to do. Had another yam little bitty speakers and passive sub for years. this is way better!! Thank you yamaha and newegg..

Pros: - Awesome sound. This totally beats the stuffing out of my 10+ year old Kenwood receiver.

- HDMI switching is nifty.* (*more on this later)

- The YPAO automatic speaker setup is just AWESOME. Plug it in and get the mic into position... and the receiver does the rest. Found myself re-watching movies because it was truly like watching them for the first time the sound was SOOO amazing.

- USB input for iPods works well. Plug it in and navigate your iDevice from the on-screen display. Nifty!

Cons: - I was frustrated with this receiver at first... I had my Panasonic Blu-Ray player and my Tivo Premiere connected via HDMI at first and everything seemed to be going well.

After about a day, I would power everything up (TV, Tivo, and receiver) to watch television and I would get sound, but just a solid purple screen (sometimes it was solid red). After much frustration and buying new High-Speed HDMI with ethernet cables, come to find out, my Tivo Premiere was having issues with the HDMI handshake with my television.

If you find yourself in the same situation... connect whichever source is being picky about the HDMI handshake directly to your TV and run optical audio out of the source to the receiver. That way the receiver isn't disrupting the HDMI handshake between your source and your TV.

I would like to have the receiver do all of the HDMI source switching... but the Tivo Premiere is SUPER picky about the HDMI handshake... c'est la vie.

Other Thoughts: None so far.

Pros: Plenty of connections and configurations. Excellent sound quality, connected to Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1 speakers. Plenty of bass, highs, etc. Many DSP options. Tuner works very well even in my basement "Man Cave". iPod navigation is above average, however I prefer to use a PC connected via HDMI for iTunes.

Cons: Legacy components connected thru component out connections must use the component in on the TV. This can make switching between devices lengthy. When watching non-HD channels the screen goes blank when accessing on-screen menus and changing volume. This may be due to my TV, but I can't verify this.

Other Thoughts: Great entry level receiver. A lot of bang for the buck.

Pros: I just wanted something cheap to power my speakers for my widescreen TV. I am impressed I got much more than I bargained for easy setup crisp clean clear sounds and this is through some cheap poke speakers.

Pros: This was easy to set up and learn the controls. The quality and features exceed my old high-end S**y. Price was the main factor, and I got more than my money's worth. Sound is excellent even on AM stations.

Cons: LipSync is a tiny bit off from what the TV's audio produces, even after maximum Receiver adjustment. However, the Receiver seems right on, so maybe the TV audio is what's off, and my TV has no adjustment for this, so I mute the TV and use the Receiver.

Pros: Easy component connections, iPod/iPhone connectivity, and decent form factor.

Cons: BASS BASS BASS - where is it? I'm replacing an old Yamaha receiver from 2000 that kicks this receivers but when it comes to my sub woofer connection. I'm not finding that I like this receivers sub woofer sound. It's lacking. Maybe I didn't read thoroughly enough about the sub because it appears the sub needs to have it's own amp. My old Yamaha receiver must have had it built in. I'll give it some time but I may end up getting rid of this because I just have to feel the BASS!!

Pros: good for the price with plenty of connections, if they work

Cons: i only hook up my PS3 to the HDMI port 1. and it didnt work. tried other HDMI cables and other input such as DVD and laptop into HDMI also. but HDMI port 1 was having issues constantly.

so i returned the item to newegg. it costs me an extra $30 to pay for shipping back to NE.
the worse part???? NE said the serial number of the amp i returned does not matched what they sent!!!! unbelievable and very hard to believe after doing business with NE over 10 years.

Other Thoughts: i shoulda bought this elsewhere. sure it cost $10 more there but the hassle of dealing with NE/yamaha and getting my refund was not worth the time

Pros: similar to another reviewer on here, I started shopping for an AVR after I got a new LG TV. my old receiver didn't have the SPDIF connection for it or HDMI passthru. This AVR solved both issues and finally brings me into the age of digital sound. The YPAO mic thing is very cool -- when shopping around for AVR's it didn't seem like any other brands in the same price range had this type of feature. it probably saved me hours of configuration (and then worrying if I have it right, tweaking, etc).. the on-screen display is so much better than trying to read the little display on the unit.

ordered Tuesday morning, received Wednesday afternoon!! using the free shipping! newegg is the best!

can't beat the $$$. The used ones on auction sites were selling for the same price newegg is offering new.

Cons: can't think of any. this purchase compelled me to pair it with a new 5.1 POLK Audio speaker kit -- that's not really a con though!

there's a bit of a learning curve for me here -- trying to get surround sound from my HTPC to the AVR via HDMI connection. The key seems to be the codecs. Load up a video player that uses them and viola! audio sweetness! I'm using Arcsoft Total Media Theater which supports DTS and a few others and seems to be kicking out surround even though windows sound config only shows a 2 speaker setup..

still working on getting the HDMI CEC to work with my TV..
