The VSX-1019AH-K from Pioneer is more than an A/V receiver. It’s the command hub of your entertainment center. It has DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD surround decoders, connections for satellite radio, a USB port for your iPod and a Dual-Core 400MIPS Freescale DSP. There are also HDMI, Component and composite outputs. With the HDMI output you get full 1080p upconversion, HDMI CEC to control all your components at once, and high bit rate audio transmission.

The advanced Freescale DSP has 13 surround modes so you can find one that matches your audio taste and room configuration. 2 out of 5 eggsWarranty Bad!!!!!!!!

Pros: up-conversion, multi hdmi, sounds good

Cons: Can't use it...ever?

Other Thoughts: Went down after 6 months, took it into an authorized warranty shop and...that's where it is still, three months later.
All promise no delivery when I talk to Pioneer or the service shop.
I think I've purchased my last Pioneer product.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome AV Receiver

Pros: Incredible value.
Video Upconvertl.
TONS of input connections.
Easy Setup.

Cons: Remote can be a bit difficult to figure out at first. Highly recommend using a universal remote like the Logitech Harmony in home theater environment.

Other Thoughts: I had done a lot of research prior to purchasing this unit. This unit was also highly recommend by MANY MANY tech blogs, AV Forums etc.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

Pros: This receiver has enough power to push med-large size speakers just fine. The ability to Bi-Amp front speakers with separate powered sub woofers is very nice and makes a big difference in action and dynamic movies. Rumbles enough to shake the remote off of the coffee table. If you are an acoustic aficionado this receiver has graphs and numerous displays to allow you to customize your sound 8 ways from Sunday. Plus I have to mention the power again. Big improvement over my previous Pioneer VSX-D509S and I thought that one was loud. The receiver's video switching capability is a nice touch. The 4 HDMI inputs and 2 component inputs reduce a great deal of wires and simplify your theater set-up. I don't know of a better value than this one for a mid-high end receiver. Worth the money.

Cons: As previously mentioned the manual is all but useless. Not reader friendly in the least. Numerous settings will have to be made by trial and error. The graphic display on the TV helps quite a bit though and will allow you to set this up properly in about 2-3 hours depending on your speaker arraignment. The remote does seem a bit flimsy and the print on it is hard to read, especially in a living-room lighting environment. Due to the remotes uniform shape it is very easy to mistakenly hold it upside down and try to control your components and wonder why nothing is working. Also as mentioned previously, the Auto MCACC set-up is great but it does tend to set the rear speakers to large when they aren't. This can easily be fixed by changing it manually.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this item on 12/24/09 right during the holiday shipping rush. UPS advised of a delivery date on 1/4/10. I had 3-Day UPS shipping so I was a bit disappointed but I understood. Newegg as usual did very well and I received my unit on 12/29/09. #1 reason I keep shopping with this guys.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid system

Pros: Excellent value. Video upconvert works very well. Plenty of input connections. Setup not bad considering all of the options available. Have it connected to Dish HD DVR, DVD, VCR, Wii, PC, CD, iPod.

Cons: Occassionally have to cycle thru the HDMI input choices to get the sound to work from the HD DVR - usually happens when attempting to watch a standard def, recorded show.

4 out of 5 eggsNicely done

Pros: I replaced my aging (9+y/o) vsx-509-s with this. I have a klipsch quintet system and a synergy 12” sub. While the sound quality is so much better, initial configuration takes some time but is very easy. I found it to take less time than the old unit if you factor in the manual calibration of the speakers required for the old unit.

Pros

• Free ipod cable
• Easy setup (compared with manually calibrating surround sound using video essentials)
• Great sound
• Reasonable price
• You can set a default volume level (used during power on)

Cons: Cons

• No front hdmi, they need to add one and still keep the same number in the back
• The HD directv dvr boxes require both hdmi and optical cable as the hdmi does not work for the non-hd feeds (probably directv box incompatibility). You can set the directv box for no Dolby digital but that’s not cool.
• Seems slow to display initial TV signal at start up

Other Thoughts: I would recommend to a friend / family. 4 stars for lack of front hdmi and directv issue

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the price!

Pros: Overall it's a fantastic value for a sub $600 receiver. HDMI swithing is great, power is more than adequate for most rooms. Plenty of inputs, fairly easy setup.

Cons: Not really a con, but it is a little disappointing that the HDMI switching is not passive - i.e. if the receiver is not on - there will not be a picture on the TV. Sometimes I like to just turn on CNBC in the early morning to check the market. However - there is a setting to have the receiver always turn on at a specific volume level. So I set mine to turn on at -80db so it's still silent and doesn't wake up my wife.

Other Thoughts: I've had 4 Pioneer receivers over the past 25 years... they all still work perfectly. If it weren't for the requirement of newer technologies (HDMI switching, 7.1 surround, new surround modes - TrueHD, etc..) I would still be using my first one probably. But I've given the older one's new homes and they are enjoyed by their respective owners now as much as I did when I was using them regularly.

5 out of 5 eggsRare Gem

Pros: I purchased the Pioneer VSX-1019 at an excellent price, with free shipping. Arrived in 3 days bnib.

I have read extensively about this receiver prior to placing my order. I had it hooked up to my entertainment system in less then an hour. My HT: Samsung TV PN58B650, 4 Polk Monitors M-70 for front, 2 Polk Monitors M-60 surround, CS2 central speaker and 2 Polk PSW505 SUB'S ( 12 ", 300-450 Watts, via Monster Y splitter).

All what I can say is: WOW, WOW, The sound coming out of the speakers is unbelievable and the VSX 1019 is able to drive all these monsters with ease, and no overheating.

Pros:
. HDMI connectivity with 1080p up conversion.
.Pure sound 0.05% THD. No distortion at very high volumes and very clear lows appeases to the musical ears.
. Image quality is unbeatable.
. Up conversion from 480i to 1080p is outstanding
. Very accurate auto calibration MCCAC via included microphone.
. Slick, Piano Black finish with large blue screen you can actually read
. * decoders

Cons: Cons:
. Sub Xovers: 60-80-100-150-200 Hz only.
.Manual: take a deep breath before you read it. It is a great exercise for anger control. Try Yoga before reading it.
.Remote not backlit with small buttons, functional though.

Other Thoughts: Whatever small cons I mentioned, it does not alter the outcome of my verdict: The VSX-1019 is a rare Gem, it rivals the more expensive A/V receivers and beats hands down all other mid entry receivers. I have compared it to other receivers I own such as Sony STR-DN1000, STR DH800, YAMAHA RX-V565, ONKYO 806 AND 505 AND 8555. (BTW it is very similar to my VSX-919 which lacks 1 HDMI input and one coax digital audio input and ability to up convert to 1080i only).

All in all excellent receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsbuyers regret = NONE.

Pros: Super clean sound. I upgraded from a Sony 520 and the difference is night & day. I've had music on every day since I got the Pioneer. Crisp highs, present mids, tight lows. Tons of features! Video scaling is good enough, but better than the other options at this price range. I've already had a guest say "I've never heard a system sound this good."

Cons: Manual is OK at best. It just takes a day of playing with things to get acquainted with the receiver & remote. Remote does the job, but if you can afford it, go get a Logitech Harmony.

It's got enough power for 95% of the consumers out there. The other 5% are insane, and should be running a dedicated amp, or a high-end 40 pound receiver. For the price and features, the amp in this is more than reasonable. I haven't brought it above -10 (yet).

Other Thoughts: Paired with:
Front: Polk M70
Center: Polk CS2
Rear: Polk M20
Sub: Polk PSW10

It DOES send sound to the sub for stereo signals. If your L/R speakers are small, set them to small with the sub enabled. If they're large and you want the crossover sent to your mains and the sub, set the L/R to LARGE and the sub to PLUS.

4 out of 5 eggsVSX-1019AH-K

Pros: MCACC full automatic setup worked very well for me. HDMI supports full passthrough for my upconverting DVD player. On screen menu to TV is much better than using the built in LED display. Sound quality it much better and louder than my old 500w 5.1 surround Pioneer reciever. iPod connection plays, controls and charges my touch without issue, can play videos and video Podcasts through to my bigscreen HD tv. Full multifunction universal remote controls all my mixed brand components. Amp has a cooling fan for when you are really working the system hard. Friend bought one too and loves his also.

Cons: Sometimes won't turn on from remote (could be my batteries are weak) but always works from the button on front, doesn't pass low frequencies to sub when the source is only stereo - like my CD player or from my VHS. owner's manual does lack a little. Don't place anything on top of the reciever especially anything sensitive to heat or anything with moving part in which the lubricating grease will break down from the heat the receiver it puts out a lot of heat even at medium volumes. When unit is off HDMI does not pass through like another reviewer stated but no big deal, I prefer my movies with it's huge sound.

Other Thoughts: Good price for this mid-high end receiver. I'm satisfied, the features are good and the cons are not very bad or can be worked around. Handles my 7.1 setup great and movies sound spectacular.
