Question 1

I just purchased the  SP-FS51-LR RT floor standing speakers that are a very odd 6 ohms.  This subwoofer is to accompany these speakers but I see no ohm rating.  I have an older and a newer Sony stereo and both are rated 8 to 16 ohms.  Why is there no rating for the sub and how are 6 0hm speakers going to affect my 8 - 16 ohm system?

I didn't like any of the other answers, so here's mine.

Ohm's are the measure of impedance that the speakers provide. The reason there is no Ohm rating on the subwoofer, is because it will not place a load on your receivers internal amplifier. It has its' own separate amplifier inside of it.  This is all assuming that you're using the subwoofer output from your receiver. There are 'line level' inputs (the speaker level connections, instead of RCA cables) available as well, and like you said, there's no rating, so I'm not sure what load those would place on your receiver, if you chose to use them.

As far as the 6 Ohm load on your system that's rated for 8 - 16, it is going to increase the dynamic load on your internal amplifier. Depending on how well it's made, and how far out of its' tolerances it can operate this may cause you no issues at all, or you may blow an internal fuse once you try to turn it up a bit.

They way impedance works is that you can either double or half the value, depending on the way you wire something.  So, if you had a single channel amplifier, and you wanted to hook up two 8 Ohm subwoofers to it, you could have the subs placing either a 16 or 4 ohm load on the amplifier., depending on how you wire it.

So placing a 6 Ohm load on something rated for 8, isn't extremely far out of spec, but it could still cause problems. Additionally, it will put more stress on the components, making it more likely to fail over time, especially if you push the volume up frequently.

Hi Terry,

I can't honestly remember if they came with a patch cable which certainly would have just been a $2 R/L RCA "phono" connector.  I can assure you, with or without the cable, this sub is a seriously good deal.  I own a lot of high end gear and bought this as an auxiliary sub for my wife's office and had fairly low expectations.

I was shocked at good it sounds.  Very good lower octave reproduction with no over-emphasis in the mid bass; and you have controls on the back to optimize it for your room's acoustics.

I don't try and play it at ear-splitting levels, so I can't comment on the total harmonic distortion in the upper db range.

Question 3

Can it receive the signal via blue tooth? or must it be hard wired. how about a picture of the back of the sub woofer. The picture of the card board box is not very useful.

The back of the sub has the red and white RCA input I have it plugged into my PC via headphone splitter to RCA converter and it works fine you could do the same thing with a Bluetooth headphone jack RCA adapter to and then plug that whole assembly in the back of the sub. It also has 2 outputs with speaker wires probably for you highs I have not tried that though.

does this have an automatic shut off when you turn off your receiver?

It has an "automatic" mode where it is in low power "standby" status until it detects an audio signal at which point a blue led on the front lights up and it turns on.  So if your receiver is off, the SW-8-K is in "standby". When you receiver is on and producing an audio signal, the SW-8-K automatically turns fully on.  When you turn your receiver off, it returns to "standby".

Question 5

Hi.
I have a Kenwood KR-V6040 Receiver purchased in '91. It's in great shape. Can I hook this subwoofer up to it? Not sure what I will need, I am not too electronic savvy.
I have Klipsch RB41 bookshelfs and they need some added bass. Will this do the job?
Also, please include cost for shipping?

Karen... yes you can hook this up to your Kenwood receiver. The owners manual shows you 3 ways to hook it up. Just Google the owners manual before hand to double check.

I am quite happy with mine. As long as you have a modest sized room this will add the bass as long as you do crank it up super loud.

Does this have the new LFE input connection?  (single input)

a pre-amp/processor with a LFE or Subwoofer pre-amp output, connect a single RCA cable to the LFE/
Left input. If you are connecting your subwoofer to a stereo pre-amp or processor, such as in a stereo
music system, use stereo RCA cables and connect to both the LFE/Left and Right inputs

does the unit connect via RCA cable?

The SW-8-K 100W Subwoofer Single can be connected with an RCA connection from the amplifier signal output, or with connection to the amplifier speakers output which is how I have mine connected.  I've connected the speakers to the amplifier and then ran an additional set of speaker wires from each speaker (in series) to the subwoofer - per the equipment installation guide.  Either way works great.

Question 8

Is this wireless. Do I need anything else to use it with my tv only 120 volt plug?

no, this is not wireless.  it is a conventional powered subwoofer.  you will need either RCA output(s) from your TV/source or direct speaker wire line-level connections.

ideally, get a home theatre receiver to be the source, not your TV.

Wow, some terrible responses going on here. You need nothing but a signal from any source. It can be a ipod,smartphone, cd player, receiver. Any sort of analog source can get sent to the sub. The sub has its own power source so simply a signal is needed. You can even hook it up to your PC's sound card(5.1 soundcards are ideal for a dedicated sub channel output).

Question 10

Frequency response for this sub woofer is listed as 38Hz-150kHz.  Impossible because 150KHz is way above the upper frequency response of human hearing or even dog and cat hearing.

Should the frequency response instead be listed as 38Hz-150KHz?

I think 150kHz is an error. Probably should be 150Hz. I can say this SW has a wonderful sound and I would buy it again.
