Great home theater starts with a great receiver. Onkyo's HT-R667 is the heart of the HT-S6100 system. This 7.1 channel receiver comes with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding for audio that sounds like what the producers had in mind. The Audyssey DynamicEQ ensures that dialogue will always be clear by dynamically adjusting the EQ settings as the volume is changed.

Eliminate cable clutter from your life with the HDMI 1080p upconverting capabilities of the HT-R667 through its HDMI ports. The Faroudja DCDi/EDGE helps to eliminate jaggies and other video artifacts that can occur when upconverting a signal. Now your picture looks better than ever.

In order to give the system voice, Onkyo included a speaker set tuned to work with the receiver. The front and center speakers have 2x3.125" woofers and a 1" balanced dome tweeters while the surround speakers have 1x3.125" woofer and a 1" balanced dome tweeter. The 10", 290W downward firing subwoofer completes the set. All the connectors and included cables are color coded to get you listening faster.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable Sound for the Price...

Pros: Deep, rich bass. Great highs and mid range. This system is almost $200 cheaper than the S7100 and the only difference is the included speaker stands. The system is absolutely amazing, and sounds as good as my friends $2500 system that he spent an additional $300 having professionally calibrated. He came over and needless to say, he is impressed by the sound of my system which cost a fraction of what his did. Oh, and his system doesn't come with any iPod integration at all either!

Cons: The automated setup requires that you use all 7 speakers. As I currently only have space for 5 of them I had to set up the system manually, it was a bit of a pain, but it still sounds amazing.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and save lots of money by buying speaker stands separately, or, alternatively, just attach the speakers to your walls as Onkyo seems to suggest.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System

Pros: The sound is truly amazing for what you pay for this system. The speakers sound clean and the sub hits like a champion. The HDMI connections are great. Having everything pass through one HDMI cable to my TV is fantastic. The microphone that comes with the system does a pretty solid job of calibrating the speakers. Dolby TrueHD is amazing. I would say that this is the best HTIB that you can get for the money that you will be spending.

Cons: The speaker wire that comes with the system is pathetic. I upgraded my speaker cable to 16AWG. I snagged 100ft for super cheap on m0n0price. You cannot rename the inputs on the system. For example my xbox is hooked up to AUX, my PS3 to DVD, and my Wii to VCR. I find that to be slightly frustrating. The system does run hot. Literally the receiver is hot to the touch. If you keep the receiver in an open area it will most like not be a problem.

Other Thoughts: This is a great great system for what you spend. There are little quirks that are slightly frustrating to deal with, but the sound is still fantastic and in the end thats what really matters. I would recommend this system to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Setup

Pros: Great sounding HTIB. Reciever has 4 HMDI inputs that pass sound as well unlike the lower price Onkyo HTIB. Plenty of options to choose from. Also comes with one HDMI cord. Remote worked on my cable box. Has a calibration mic for easy setup of speakers.

Cons: Speaker wire was too small in my opinion. I went out and bought some heavier wire.

Other Thoughts: This is my first real home theatre system and i absolutely love it. I bought one of those dvd player HTIB and this system blows it out the water completely. Shipping was at my door in two days in good condition. Make sure you read the Bulk Shipping Policy. Setup was not bad at all pretty much plug and play.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound

Pros: Great sound, nice bass, good mids and highs. Price for this unit is eggcellent, 4x HDMI in and 2x Optical 2x Digital Ins and a multitude of component ins.

Cons: Setup can be a PITA (more later)

Other Thoughts: Make sure you read the manual in regards to which speaker input to hook your speakers up to if you use this with a 5.1 setup and not a full 7.1 setup. The included setup microphone does a good job but doesn't get things perfect, tweaking will be required. The included speaker wire is thin and not very long if you have an odd shaped living room. Buying speaker cable from another source like m0n0price is a good idea if you purchase this setup. All in all this is a great setup and at a price that shouldn't be passed up.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat system for a great price

Pros: This system sounds amazing once you get it hooked up and gets even better once you run the auto calibration. I have listened to several systems that were at least double the cost and they just did not sound as good. The HDMI connections were also another reason I bought it. It pass the pictures to the TV crystal clear and you don't have to worry about running a sound wire back to the receiver.

Cons: None that I have found so far. People talked about it running hot but I leave it in an open area part on my TV stand and don't have any problem with it getting hot (especially compared to the heat my xbox360 puts off). I did buy a logitech harmony remote that works perfectly with this system as I have heard the remote is not great but I don't use it.

Other Thoughts: One of the best deals you will find (I got it for under $600 with free shipping). I looked all over the web and at several brick and mortar stores and just couldn't find anything that could compare.

5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for the buck

Pros: HDMI ports, sound power and quality, Dolby True HD, easy installation and setup, and decent speakers.

Cons: The only problem I have with this HTIB is the gauge of the speaker wire. It's not the nicest by far but easily replaced for not a whole lot of money.

Other Thoughts: It took no more than two hours with two people to setup this entire HTIB. It has fully functioned without any issue for five months now. I bought it after a long decision process. At the time Newegg was offering it at a price I could no longer resist. It's the best bang for your buck for a HTIB that offers HDMI ports and Dolby True HD in a 7.1 speaker system.

I have it connected to my PS3 and the sound in games and in Blu-Rays is stunning. The iPod dock that's included is extremely useful. Even on some average quality music files the sound is good. This HTIB is definitely worth the money for everything it offers.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so very good!

Pros: I was actually a bit nervous getting something like this from newegg because of the bulk item disclaimer they have...what if it's DOA kind of thing, because the delivery person is not going to stand here for 2 hours while I hook it up, but so far so good. Hookup was easy as speaker wire and terminals on receiver are color-coded. Initial setup was easy and worked properly as expected (speaker microphone sound test), all functions I have active work as expected (am/fm tuner, blu-ray player, cable/satellite, Wii video game system) The 7.1 TrueHD really blows me away...a very nice unit.

Cons: Although I managed to make it work, I would love for the rear surround speaker wire to be about 10-20 feet longer, but fortunately the room I set it up in is not that large. Also for a higher-end item like this, including banana clips or crimping pins would be nice, but the speaker wires are soldered to a fine tip, so it's not too bad.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, a very good experience despite my fears. I've promised my wife that I won't be taking a leap of faith like this very often. I'm just glad everything went as expected so I don't have to sleep outside. :)

5 out of 5 eggsNice System

Pros: Nice looking speakers. Easy setup and auto speaker calibration. Complete system with everything included. Easily customized to fit what components you have. Lots of input and plenty of power. Receiver upscales video to 1080p. Great flexibility in speaker use, either 7.1 or 5.1 + 2 for another room.

Cons: Speaker wire included is a little short and a light gauge. Puts out a lot of heat. Sub doesn't plug into receiver and the auto sensing doesn't react to shut down as quickly as I would like. Not enough blu-ray discs in my collection to take full advantage of the system.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely would recommend this to a friend when it is priced under $600. Lots of HDMI inputs and the option to either use the tv speakers or not when connected to the HDMI out. Make sure you have plenty of air space around this thing otherwise you will have issues. The speaker stands that come with the HTS7100 would be nice but you can find other stands cheaper and it is essentially the same system otherwise.
Have a blu-ray player, hd cable box, and a vcr (yeah yeah a little old school but still have lots of tapes) for inputs. Output goes to a 42" 1080p lcd.
Next addition will be a pc to stream video to the tv and surf the web from the couch.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding value despite a few little quirks

Pros: Good sound, great features, amazing price for such quality audio gear.
Receiver provides plenty of power for a typical home theater application.
The speakers are relatively easy to mount and they look nice.

Cons: Bass sound is a bit on the boomy and muddy side. It lacks punch for listening to stereo music, but it's fine for TV or movies.
A few odd quirks, such as the fact the volume goes to 79, and the channel gain levels max out at 12. Reminds me of Nigel from Spinal Tap: "These go to 11."
A related note: the subwoofer output gain level affects the max volume level. So if you have subwoofer gain turned to +1 or higher, the maximum volume setting on the receiver will be reduced.

Other Thoughts: I watched prices for several months and finally in March 2009 snagged it from NewEgg for $549 shipped. NewEgg provided excellent service. UPS delivered within a few days and box arrived in good condition. I'd definitely buy it again.

1 out of 5 eggsComponent input failure

Pros: Sounds fairly good...not great, but good.

Cons: If you're using the component hookups, it just doesn't work. If the volume is over 48 or so when you turn it on with component connections, it turns itself off again. If you turn it on at a lower volume and then adjust the volume up, it will turn itself off. This is apparently such a prevalent problem for Onkyo that the DIRECTIONS actually mention the problem and say that it needs service if this happens. I'm returning my second one for this problem now.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT buy if you're going to use component connections.
