Great home theater starts with a great receiver. Onkyo's TX-SR606 is the heart of the HT-S7100 system. This 7.1 channel receiver comes with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding for audio that sounds like what the producers had in mind. The Audyssey DynamicEQ ensures that dialogue will always be clear by dynamically adjusting the EQ settings as the volume is changed.
Eliminate cable clutter from your life with the HDMI 1080p upconverting capabilities of the TX-SR606 through its HDMI ports. The Faroudja DCDi/EDGE helps to eliminate jaggies and other video artifacts that can occur when upconverting a signal. Now your picture looks better than ever.
To give the system voice, Onkyo included speakers tuned to work with the receiver. The front and center speakers have 2x3.125" woofers and a 1" balanced dome tweeters while the surround speakers have 1x3.125” woofer and a 1" balanced dome tweeter. The 10", 290W downward firing subwoofer completes the set. All the connectors and included cables are color coded to get you listening faster.

gingerbread man
- Pros: this is my first sound system ever. i've been using cheap logitec 2.1 computer speakers paired with my samsung ln46a650 lcd tv for the longest time, and i dont know how i ever survived without a true surround sound system. i'm loving it right now. the speakers are great. right now i only have 5.1 cuz my living room sucks, but it's still very very exciting. movies come to life now. the speakers may not be top-notch professional speakers, but they sound good to me. anyone who's not a hardcore audiophile will enjoy them. the bass is deep (enough). my walls and pictures shake when i got my music playing. movies come to life. my 360 looks great at 1080p going through the receiver. audyssey does a good job of automatically configuring your speakers. newegg got it to my house in 48 hours. hooray!
- Cons: receiver gets a little warm. i dont think you should keep it in an enclosed area. i tried hooking my pc up to it dvi -> hdmi and it overscanned hard core at 1920x1080 resolution. not really worth knocking an egg off for. i just plug the cable into my TV and the audio into the receiver. problem solved.
- Other Thoughts: if you're gonna use audyssey to config your speakers, and you only want 5.1 instead of 7.1, then you can't connect the speakers to the "back surround" left and right outputs on the receiver. you have to just use the regular left and right surround outputs. again, i'm a noob to the whole audio thing, but i grew up with it my whole life so i do understand a majority of it. very simple to set up and comes packaged well. this is my first surround sound purchase, and it was a good one. i'm sure if decide to get any more serious about my home theater then i'll probly look into replacing the speakers and sub, but for now, they're just fine.
2nd Review!
- Pros: Did some more research. I have decided to upgrade this to five starts. ran auto setup and also found out that the PS3 decodes the audio format, so it will output DTS true HD and MA to the receiver. However, it will already be decoded. simply set the listening mode to mult chan and make sure the ps3 is outputting LPCM 7.1 signals and LPCM 5.1. The PS3 will decode teh audio and send it to the receiver.

Awesome system, worth the money, and also new egg rocks
- Pros: This system is the best you can get at this price range. It's sleek, the receiver is amazing and has the capability to be upgraded with better speakers ( the stock speaker are great, they sound amazing but the ability to upgrade in the future is always good). The sub bumps hard. I was playing Call of Duty 4 and i could gernades going off behind me, a tank next to me firing its cannon, and a hail of gun fire in front of me. I really felt like i was there. One of the best investments i have ever made.
- Cons: Now overall the system is great, but it does have some quirks. The Speaker wire is sufficient but you gotta make sure they are placed in the receiver just right, i had to fittle with them for about 30 mins. Also for some reason when i plug my xbox 360 into through component (the out for the receiver is HDMI,) all i get is an off color screen. I fixed it by just plugging the video into the tv and the sound through the receiver.
- Other Thoughts: Read the manual, there is alot going on and it will help you get the most out of your system.
Surpassed my expectations
- Pros: I've had lower end home systems, and had no idea what I was missing. Sound is incredible, as is the bass. Watched a movie on my blu-ray player, and it just brings a whole new depth to the dvd. Really sounds better than the theaters, words are crisp, and sound is crystal clear. Have it all hooked up with HDMI, built in switcher works great too.
- Cons: Make sure you have another person to help you bring in the box, it is over 100lbs!
- Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks as always. Bought Fri morning, at my house Mon afternoon, with free S&H!
Maybe the Best at this price point!
- Pros: Setup was easy using the provided microphone and setup program which has you move the mic to various parts of the room while it captures sound output and finally adjusts speaker volume ratios automatically. The sound is outstanding, the bass is full and rich, not punchy. The included speaker wires are adequate. I am currently just using it as a 5.1 system as I figure out where in the room to put the additional 2 speakers. There are a ton of configuration settings that let you tweak all aspects of the sound, for now the defaults are working great for me.
- Cons: I am using the included speaker stands for rear surround. Unfortunately they are not height adjustable and the speakers were partially obstructed by my couch, which required me to put something under the base for a height boost
- Other Thoughts: Outstanding job on the shipping Newegg, received 2 days after ordering.
