1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy Onkyo

Pros: .

Cons: I've had this unit since 09 and i'm compelled to share my experiences with onkyo to date.
1. Exactly 6months after purchase, the remote receiver circuit failed making the remote useless. Manual selection of inputs worked ie DVD, Cable etc.
2. Then i lost the rear left channel.

Sent it for repair to a local authorized repairtcenter.

Last week, 18 months after purchase, it failed again. This time it will not turn on. A loud clicking noise is heard but it never powers on. The only LED on is the RED status on. At the time of failure, a strong "something got fired" smell was present.

I sent it again to the repair center, and they say it's covered under warranty but repairs will take 6 weeks ! No, they don't have loaners ;-(

I've called Onkyo asking them to replace this "lemon" but the will not.

Other Thoughts: Onkyo service and reliability sucks. Stay away !

5 out of 5 eggsSo Glad I bought this

Pros: Great Sound with a lot of features plus pretty simple to set up. For the price it dosn't get any better

Cons: The speaker wire, you already spent this much money you might as well invest in some nice 14 awg wire

Other Thoughts: It took me forever to pick out a HT system and I am glad I did. or such a great price, easy set up, Great sound with so many features. I just wish I bought it sooner.
I did have to upgrade my time warner dvr for this unit to work with it. The onkyo tech said it has to do with the scientific atlanta being motorola. After upgrading to the latest dvr i had no Issue. My PS3 and 360 worked fine.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Affordable

Other Thoughts: It was always my understanding that HDMI by definition is a compact audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data.
But apparently Onkyo's definition is different.
I feel that the very existence of this product is a scam.
What is the point of HDMI without audio in a receiver?

I did buy this from newegg, but it was ordered under my friends account.

Onkyo apparently does not care, as they think I should take this up with newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat system

Pros: This system is great! the sound quality is amazing and the Room Calibration Tool is very nice. I am very happy with it!

Cons: the supplied wire is low grade and needs to be replaced. the surround speakers are not designed with a way to mount them to speaker posts or wall mounts...had to impovise.

Other Thoughts: I went onto and this system is rated 2nd best on the market only to be surrpassed by its sister model.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System

Pros: Easy setup and installation, great sound, excellent surround options for gaming, movies, tv and iPod. I use this for my xBox, PS3, iPod and HD Cable box and its reads each individual device and produces great sound through all of them. Excellent price, especially when newegg delievered it in 2 days!

Cons: Eyehooks for the speaker mounting can only be mounted vertically instead of the option of a horizontal mount of the next level up of the HTIB.

Other Thoughts: About a few of the plast posts I would like to explain some things. There is a setting on the reciever, that is default, which the audio goes through an extra audio cable. To have the sound come through the HDMI cable, along with the video, you just have to change the setting to 'PASS THROUGH' on that particular device output setting. Also, there is no chance that you will have a small fire in your house/apartment. If you wire this correctly and conceal the wires correctly and have adequate ventalation for the receiver, you will have no problem with this product. An excellent price too!

5 out of 5 eggsWoW what a BOOM BOOM pow(gotta get that)

Pros: oh come on this is not fire hazard as the previous reviewr said, most likely he or she didnt knew how to do installation and made a big ol spaghetti of cables.

Anyway this are my pros:
that thing really boom, sound quality, easy installation,
great bass, the speaker calibration audessey is a big plus, the finish is awesome wood speakers enclosure with shiny plastics sides.
7.1 baby!!!!!!

Cons: the wiring really sucks,i spend another $150 in 16 guage in wiring, the ones from factory are so tiny and short don't even worth trying to use them.No audio with hdmi, have to use a separate cable for audio other than that this thing rumble the house.

Other Thoughts: im using this htib in a huge room like 600 sqf room and fills the whole room, love this thing but like i said in my cons if you spending a good chunk of money on this equip might as well go spend another chunk of money in wiring, since i was running wires thru attic and walls have to buy monster 16 gauge wires cl3 rated wires so they were more expensive than regular 16 gauge monster cables, but go to your radio shack or home depot store or any where online and do yourself a favor toss away factory wires and get yourself some at least 16 gauge speaker wires,i can believe such a powerful equipment and tiny wires how all those watts are gonna flow thru?anyway i concealed all my wires thru attic and walls over 200 feet of wires and came out pretty good ,did the calibration with the included microphone and is an awesome process, dont like the idea of having to use an extra cable for audio when hdmi is suppost to carry both video and audio but anyway i have the cables so i did the installation a

1 out of 5 eggsStay away, FIRE HAZARD!!!

Pros: cheap for a huge free shipping package.

Cons: If I could give it a very high negative rating, I would.

I've received this thing from newegg on Oct.19, 2009. It was OK for a while.

Today I turned it on. It played for a couple of minutes then turned itself off. I turned it on again and after a minute or so it turned itself off again. I turned it on for a third time and it started a REAL FLAME inside.

I don't even want to think what would happen if I was not in my house.

Now I smell burned electronics insde this receiver. But I also smell a lawsuit and Onkyo recalling this FIRE HAZARD receivers.

And yes, newegg and Onkyo, I want my money back.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it unless you want little fire inside your house or apartment.
