2 out of 5 eggsStopped working

Pros: Worked for 4 years as advertised

Cons: Rliability

Other Thoughts: Got a 'pop' today and the audio is gone. Heard the Onkyo had an HDMI board issue. I did a reset but I don't have anything. Not even radio. Video still works. Too much to spend for such a short life. I'm looking for another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for me

Pros: Looks good on paper, Newegg customer support is OUTSTANDING!

Cons: The first one would not pass sound through when HDMI pass through was active. The second one was DOA. I do not believe in third time being the charm! This time it goes back for a refund.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat features, but poor quality

Pros: Came free with my speakers.
Lots of HDMI inputs
Easy configuration
2 year warranty (as other review says - YOU'LL NEED IT)

Cons: Runs VERY hot. After about 2 months the audio started "fading" - would lose one or two speakers (they would cut in and out), then started to lose bass, then after a month or so of this the video starting cutting in and out intermittently, then cut out altogether. Thought it might be my components or cables so I switched them all out with no luck. Finally decided to ship unit in for my free repair (only cost me $30 because the repair center is close to me in NJ). When it came back, it seemed better than ever - in fact I'm relatively certain there were some "new" features that started to work that never worked before. But, alas, just three weeks later and the sound and video are starting to cut out again, so I know what's coming - the trash can.

Other Thoughts: Really glad that this was "free" with my speakers otherwise I would be incredibly upset that I paid good money for such junk. This was my first Onkyo and will definitely be my last. With so many good brands to choose from, why give them a second chance?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

Pros: - 7.1 Channel w/Bi-amp capable 5.1
- High frequency ranges, good quality
- Easy terminal hook-ups
- HDMI 1.4 (3D) Capable
- On-screen (HDMI overlay) controls/menus
- EQ2 Auto Sound Adjustment (Microphone included)
- HDMI control/TV control

Cons: - Runs hot (Expected of the power)
- Cannot rename inputs
- No Digital Coaxial Sound input

Other Thoughts: I can't believe the bad reviews that got put on this receiver... I think everyone needs to go through the manual first and also remember that not all equipment is compatible with all equipment. I have a PS3, Vizio LED LCD TV, WDLive, XBOBX 360, and EeeBox, and all work without a hitch or hiccup on the receiver. I'd say covering that much ground is pretty good. It's very possible you could receive a lemon too, no company is perfect. Regardless, I hope people will look past the reviews and give this receiver a try. For under $230 which is what I got it at here, this receiver is definately a 5-star. Onkyo has had a great standard like Yamaha, and I'm glad I gave it a try, I think others would too.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't Go Here

Pros: On paper it seems a good value. The audio specifications and feature list are impressive for a reasonably priced AV Receiver. I gave two stars because apparently SOME units may actually work as described.

Cons: In practice the receiver gets confused when sorting out audio signals and has HDMI video switching problems. I experienced the same "video flashing" problems of other reviewers. When playing a Blu-Ray DVD through the same Player the receiver sometimes decoded DTS and other times couldn't find the signal. It had the same problem with other input sources and regular DVDs. There should be a finer adjustment for audio delay than 10ms increments because video which is out of sync by 3ms can still be quite annoying.

Other Thoughts: Onkyo's tech support was disappointing. I had trouble finding in the owner’s manual how to manually adjust the audio delay to synchronize the voice audio with the lips of the speaker on the video. Onkyo’s technical support person said that if my TV did not have the new-fangled lip-sync feature, then I was just out of luck. I was pretty sure that couldn’t be right and after re-reading the owner’s manual I did find a capability of adding audio delay in 10ms increments.
I love NewEgg. They've RMA'd this thing with return shipping and have waived the restocking fee. I'm getting a new Yamaha RX-V667 through NewEgg instead. After incentives the Yamaha is only $100 more money and is CNET’s top rated AV Receiver, while this Onkyo would work best as a $250 door stop.

5 out of 5 eggsNice for the price

Pros: For the price, this receiver is a very good buy. It has a lot of features. Easy to setup. Can be used to bi-amp the front speakers in 5.1 sound environment.

Cons: Unit runs hot. The specs call for a good deal of clearance above the unit. Be aware of this requirement when placing in a cabinet.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with the reciever.

4 out of 5 eggsUpgrade from Sony HTIB

Pros: Plenty of options
HDMI Pass Through
Plenty of Power

Cons: Have yet to have any issues

Other Thoughts: As a low budget Home Theater guy, buying this receiver paired with "free" Klipsh 500 5.1 surround speaker package for $399.00 seemed like a no brainer... and it has turned out to be a great decision on my part. The HDMI pass trough is just what my set up calls for, and the system sounds terrific in my 22x14 room. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I could instantly tell the difference in this upgrade over my 7 year old Sony HTIB setup. In short, I have yet to complain to myself about anything in regards to this receiver.

2 out of 5 eggsWTH

Pros: Great sound quality and picture is gorgeous. Love the ability to get 3D and the addition of HDMI 1.4 including the ability to rename the HDMI inputs to reflect the additional connected media. The ability to have the receiver and mic find the best possible sound for the speakers to use with movies is also a great plus.

Cons: It stopped allowing the connections to be seen by the television and didn't allow the other media to be seen or changed in order to be watched.

Other Thoughts: I LOVE my old Onkyo system and have watched many movies with my family and listened to music while cleaning the house with it. However, I had to upgrade because I bought a 3D television and BR player and wanted to watch TV with the best possible experience.

4 out of 5 eggsTricky setup with 2 zones

Pros: I used the setup microphone and got my 5.1 setup. I used the 2 zone feature to play music in my kitchen from my internet radio on my blu-ray. The sound and picture is wonderful. I can hear the difference between dvd and blu-ray now.

Cons: When I set up the 2 zone feature it was a pain! I followed the directions and the only thing that could play through the zone 2 speakers was the radio. I wanted my internet radio through the blu-ray. I called Onkyo and spent 30 minutes on hold to speak to someone. When I spoke to them they had to put me on hold 5 times to figure out what to do and "Look at resources." I had to hookup RCA cables with my HDMI cable to allow for sound in the zone 2. My complaint is how long it took to get help via the phone.
