4 out of 5 eggsOnkyo Receiver number 2

Pros: First, it supports a 7.2 speaker set up which at the time I bought it was one of the few available at the time.
It supports a nice number of HDMI, Component, and other inputs and outs.
It supports a number of settings, such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD, Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz, THX Select2 Plus. It has 6 HDMI inputs. As well as a number of other in's and outs.

Cons: Like the ONKYO TX-SR606 7.1-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver this one also has issues with clear dialog. As in if your watching a movie with a lot of sound effects which come across as LOUD which sadly drowns out the dialog. So you may find yourself having to turn it up & down as the film plays. Which is uncalled for. I mean for the price, it should have clear dialog with good sound effects. You can use settings to change things around, however if you don't have a real good high end center channel speaker, you will have a hard time finding a setting which plays clear dialog with out being drowned out by the sound effects.

Other Thoughts: .This is the second Onkyo product I bought through NewEgg. While the first one became a disaster with in the first few months with all the HDMI inputs beoming loose, or unable to recognize the HDMI while connected. Which means I was always having to plug and unplug the HDMI cables in hopes of getting them to be recognized. So far I am not having any issues with my current one, however I am stating to feel that it may start having the same HDMI connection issues.

4 out of 5 eggsHDMI is good!

Pros: Reasonable price, audio & video switching

Cons: Not a sexy remote & seems to be delaying our Xbox video

Other Thoughts: We're using a 60" Sharp LED TV, Bose speakers, DirecTV DVR, Xbox Elite & Blue Ray with this system. We also sometimes plug in our digital video camera in the front HDMI slot. Works great. The one thing I'm struggling with is the video delay when playing Band Hero on the Xbox. Timing has to be on when playing the instruments, and I haven't figured out how to null the delay yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat more do you need?

Pros: - When on sale (or open box), unbeatable price/value ratio!
- Has every feature most folks will ever need.
- Onkyo customer service was very responsive when I had trouble with another model this replaced.
- HDMI 1.4 for 3D.
- Runs much cooler than the RC160 it replaced.

Cons: - remote is just okay - I use a Harmony anyway.
- THX functions/certification is overhyped

Other Thoughts: - This is a great unit! The next level up (609) has networking and some other features I'd never use, for a lot more $$$, and the same specs. Since this is run from an HTPC in my living room, I didn't need networking or an Ipod dock. I don't know of anyone who uses (Sirius) satellite radio (my DirecTv has 50 channels of music).

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

Pros: This Receiver can bring on the PAIN. If you have tower speakers, this is a must have as it can bring the power. Very easy to use and the visual set-up menu makes setting this receiver a piece of a cake.

Set Up:
Receiver: ONKYO TX-SR608 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver
L/R Speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 70 Series II
Center: Polk Audio CS2 Series II
Subwoofer: Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch

Cons: None that I know of.

5 out of 5 eggsA Real Bargain

Pros: Upgrade from a Marantz SR780 mainly due to HDMI interfaces. First impression of the Onkyo is that it looks pretty much the same as every other Onkyo product. However, the performance and features (especially at the price) makes this receiver a real bargain. The setup was very easy and within minutes I was enjoying my new purchase.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Paired this up with a LG Blu-Ray player, Panasonic 54" G10 series plasma, Energy Take Classic 5.1 speakers. If you have a mortgage and tuition to worry about, and you still want a decent home theater system, then this receiver is your ticket.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated review

Pros: Good amp.
Nice features.
Great GUI.
Looks pretty.

Cons: HDMI board is still fragile just like the older Onkyo line. I originally gave this 5 eggs, but it doesn't deserve it in the long run.

Other Thoughts: I still like the thought of this receiver, but I don't trust it anymore. I have had to get the HDMI ports repaired twice under warranty. I bought a low cost Samsung receiver to use while this one was being repaired the first time. I'm glad I still had the Samsung since the Onkyo went out again. The Samsung has never had an issue with the same components hooked up to it. I used it for a few months before I sent the Onkyo back the second time since when it broke again I just left it in a corner for a while. I am selling the Onkyo and Samsung and I have purchased a Yamaha RX-A700 as a permanent replacement since the Onkyo will not be put back into service at my house. I hate even looking it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Perfect for my core set up.

I only have the PS3, Xbox 360 and HD Dish receiver. With 6 HDMI inputs, outputting to my 720P projector via HDMI, this unit was the perfect solution. 100 Watts per channel matched my speakers perfectly and the Audyssey tuning did an excellent job of matching my set up and the crossover frequencies. The up-converting technology is excellent as well as the picture is pristine.

The Audio improvement over the Denon I replaced was surprising but in my use testing the additional sounds and effects was noticeable.

Contrary to some other reviews, I found that the remote is actually a improvement over the Denon and even my wife went, yep this is easy to use.

Cons: None, great feature set at this price point.

Other Thoughts: I was bracing myself to have to spend in excess of $600 for a receiver with this feature set. For this price point, this is a outstanding purchase. I have been hard pressed to spend $10 a seat at the movies as it is. With this improvement in sound quality, it will have to be a "must see now" movie for me to not wait for it to come out on Blu ray now.

5 out of 5 eggsAudiogasm

Pros: Amazing sound and reasonable price. It provides clean and clear power to my Polk speaker system with relatively easy set up. It also has lots of great sound options for different modes. This was a nice upgrade from my 5.1 Sony - I'd definitely recommend this receiver.

Cons: The only down-side for me so far is that the 4(in)/1(out) HDMI makes it so that you can't have simultaneously different audio from your video. So if you want to play PS3 and listen to music, you're out of luck.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: After doing a lot of research and seeing what receivers were going to be the best I narrowed it down to this one. THX was a huge selling point for the cost of the unit. Listening close to 20 different receivers, none could come close to the features and clarity that this unit produces for the price. Easily comparable to high end units. I only wish that I had bought it sooner. Currently have it paired with the Klipsch Quintet speakers and Klipsch SW350 subwoofer. The sound that this produces makes going to the movies almost boring now.

Cons: Nothing at this time
