3 out of 5 eggsGood until failure - free repair

Pros: Great sound & modes
Easy setup
Optical audio

Cons: Died after 2+ years
Network apps are a bit archaic (though they work)
Volume button on remote wore out after about 2 years

Other Thoughts: My 2nd Onkyo receiver. Last one lasted a long time and I only upgraded to this one because I needed HDMI support.

Worked great, initially. But, one HDMI port died about 2 years in. Several months later, the audio stopped working altogether & Network stopped functioning. I called Onkyo (phone support) and after a couple of quick troubleshooting steps, they quickly agreed to fix the unit, 100% free of charge, even though it is outside the warranty. I don't like that it broke, or that I have to wait a couple of weeks for the repair, but under the circumstances, I am happy with the Onkyo support.

2 out of 5 eggsONKYO FAILS AFTER 2 YEAR WARRANTY

Pros: Everybody loves them while they work

Cons: Onkyo receiver fail after 2 year warranty

Other Thoughts: Onkyo has well known quality problem. These receivers fail after the 2-year warranty. If you look at Onkyo ratings & feed back. here and throughout the web, you see the same thing over and over: We all loved our receiver, but it died after two years. The problem appears to be a fabrication defect on the HDMI daughter board. The good news is, they may fix you out-of-warranty receiver.

If are thinking about an Onkyo, think twice. Do some more research.

If you have a failed Onkyo Receiver, they might repair it.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid until the warranty expired

Pros: Completely dependable part of my home theater arsenal for two years. Excellent sound and video quality.

Cons: Lost sound output after ~27 months, just outside the two-year warranty period. Some Googling indicates this to be a fairly common issue with this model, which I find disappointing.

Other Thoughts: I installed a pair of always-on 120mm fans into my media cabinet just to keep some air circulating. The equipment in there does not stay on all the time, but I figured it couldn't hurt. I don't have any reason to believe heat stress played a role here either.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy Onkyo

Pros: Great while it worked. Easy setup.

Cons: Onkyo has a problem. Check any site and you will see that they have a problem with quality. Shortly after the warranty expired it stopped working. No sound, no HDMI pass through, and it no longer has network connectivity. There is a known problem with this hardware and Onkyo is not acting like a company that cares. I have owned Onkyo (A10 amp) since the late 70's and never had a problem. They used to be the recommended system for quality. Not anymore!

1 out of 5 eggsBad Product

Pros: Was an awesome receiver during the time it worked

Cons: Stop audio output and various other functions 2 months after warranty ran out

Other Thoughts: Saw numerous complaints same as my concern, I guess I will have to buy a new one from a different maker, just ashamed how easily it broke after light use and had not been turned on in months

1 out of 5 eggsLasts 2 Years

Pros: Offered a rich feature set at a comparitively low price point

Cons: The trade-off for the low-price point appeared just after the 2 year warranty expired---the audio quit across all of my inputs. Googling the issue, you'll find this is plaguing many owners at the same 2 year mark.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent while it works

Pros: This is a great receiver, specially for the price! It works perfectly, with great quality audio and video and easy interface and awesome auto audio setup

Cons: After the 1 year mark (when the warranty expires), it just stops working. Mine started failing 5 days after it turned 1. Searching for my problems online I found that A LOT of other people had the same problem with ONKYO receivers.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I bought the extended warranty with NewEgg as now I'm picking a new receiver to replace this one that stopped working after 1 year. Price covered by the full refund NewEgg is doing tho... I really liked this receiver, and loved the price, so I think I'm going to stick with a newer version of this one and buy another extra protection plan and hope this doesn't happen again... Or if it happens, that I can get a replacement or my money back as easy as this time... It's a great way to upgrade due to the manufacturer's problem

1 out of 5 eggsDiscontinued, thank whomever!!!

Pros: Worked fine until warranty period expired ( 2-year ). Purchased in July 2011, sound output failed October 2013. Heavy online reporting of failed HDMI PC board. Major product flaw, Onkyo should acknowledge and offer replacement. This was my first, and apparently last, experience with Onkyo. Even an entry level home theater receiver should last longer than this.

Cons: Read pros....

My previous receiver was a Sony which lasted 8 years with no problems whatsoever....hmmmm. Traded for a Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum.

Other Thoughts: The fact that it failed just before 4 birthday celebrations in our household just adds to the stinky mess that is Onkyo...

1 out of 5 eggsGreat until the warranty is over

Pros: Easy setup
Very good OSD
Great speaker equalization -- which was pretty accurate as well as easy to use,
Great sound (as expected)
Great value for the price

Cons: Only one HDMI output (not a major deal), but a second output would have been nice.
It dies one month after the warranty ends. Onkyo seems to have a special knack for producing products that die just after the warranty period.
I wish I had read the reviews in depth first.
I will buy another, but from real company that stands behind
their products. NOT ONKYO.

Other Thoughts: This product was used 2-3 times a month when friends were over to watch movies. It literally died the first time I went to use it after the warranty died.

Support is useless.
Buy from a real company.
