ALL ENERGY BRAND COMPONENTS WERE DEVELOPED WITH THESE SONIC PRINCIPLES IN MIND:

  • Flat On-Axis Frequency Response with Wide Bandwidth
Speakers should reproduce the entire audio range in a uniform manner. By ensuring that no one frequency dominates any other, Energy speakers ensures that every note is the way it was intended to be—and the sound is as natural as possible.
  • Wide and Constant Dispersion
Sound at all frequencies radiating from the speaker should be in an even pattern, in all directions throughout the room.
  • Low Distortion and Resonance
No speaker system is totally distortion- or resonance-free, but Energy speakers have achieved a significantly lower distortion level—a clearly audible improvement.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny. Efficient and very elegant,

Pros: I have had these speakers for the best part of six years. They have and are still performing splendidly. The subwoofer is of course indispensable. For the quality you get the price is absolutely very reasonable. Worth every penny. Efficient and very elegant,

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: see above

4 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: This is my set up
- Pioneer 1021 7.1 receiver
- These 2 energy cf-70 use as main speakers
- One set of micro 5 speakers ( center, surround rear and back )
- Energy S10.3 Subwoofer
- Samsung 6500 blu ray player
- Marantz cc55 cd player
- Marantz eq 20 use for listen music
After calibrate the pioneer receiver, it sounds amazing either for movie or music. The cf-70 sounds pretty tight and solid even without the sub. With movie it sound real good but for music, since these are floor speakers, they are good for rap. hip hop, trance, and some pop. Why? mid and high are very clear with the marantz cd supports. Low is a bit tight and strong. For a better music listening I suggest to with Bowers Wilkins speakers, bass much softer and warmer.

Cons: Overall, these speakers are good for the price $400 a pair, unbeatable price for the sound. Depend on what receiver you have, but I would recommend that go with a good receiver, at least $500 receiver like Pioneer-elite, denon, harman kardon, marantz. You will be pleased with these speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers

Pros: Im a tech by trade and I try to research everything before I buy in order to make the most educated and cost effective purchase. At 1 9 9 a piece it was a pretty good deal. I replaced my Polk Monitor 50's and Id say it makes a difference. Im still breaking them in and trying to calibrate them to get the best sound out of them, but I think they are a good step up from my previous floor standing speakers.

Cons: none really...well they could have better feet so they would balance a little better on carpet, but if you have them next to the TV, then they definitely are going to fall over.

Other Thoughts: Get them at the sale price and you wont be sorry. Test them out at best buy to see if you like the sound. One more thought...they have the ability to put two speaker pairs per each speaker and run them in bi amp mode. I have a Denon receiver, which supports bi amp, but I couldnt get them to sound right at all and I saw no advantage to running them in this config. If thats your goal and think your going to get some awesome sound from bi-amp...well....dont get your hopes up.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive Speakers, Incredible Value

Pros: Before purchasing the CF-70's I already owned the Energy Take 5 Classic and CSW-10 Subwoofer (both purchased from Newegg) in a 5.1 system connected to an Onkyo TX-NR509 receiver and that sounded good already in a room of roughly 24x14 ft and 9 ft ceiling. However when the CF-70's (onsale ~$200 each) substituted the small Take 5 front R/L speakers and the front L/R was set to Large in the Onkyo setup the soundstage became much larger and more impressive on all material. The CF-70's are impressive all-around speakers performing well on all material I've used. The high's and vocal ranges sound very good and detailed. The lower frequencies are tight and extended. In fact the bass response is so good on the CF-70's that if I didn't already own a subwoofer I probably wouldn't feel the need to have one. (hint - buy these first and make the decision on a sub after you've heard these in your room). Speaker cables are stranded copper 14 guage with Sewell banana connectors.

Cons: I also own pricey audiophile gear and have speaker cables thast cost more than a pair of the CF-70's on sale at Newegg. My overall impression is that the CF-70's are not just very impressive all-around speakers, they are probably one of the best values in home audio at the sale price. I continue to be impressed by how well the very modestly priced but feature rich Onkyo receiver and Energy speakers work together in a 5.1 configuration.

Other Thoughts: Compliments to Newegg. In addition to a fantastic price they delivered these units for free to the door in 2-3 days. Total five star experience!

4 out of 5 eggsGood speaker

Pros: Bought a pair of these speaker for $150 each on Newegg! Can't beat that. I wouldn't pay no more than $250 for these speaker. The speakers are good, but I don't think paying $499 for these speaker is a good justice. These speakers are mediocre. It definitely lack on bass so I would recommend a subwoofer to go along with these CF-70. My primary use for these speakers are karaoke, movies, and music.

These speaker are definitely not made for karaoke. It sound very distorted (tweeter) at high volume which is a put down for me. Built quality is amazing. Very sturdy and attractive. Again, for the price I paid on these speakers, I am satisfied.

My setup
Pioneer VSX-821-K Receiver (179.99)
Pair Polk Audio RTI-A1 Bookshelf (227.99)
Pair Energy CF-70 (149.99 X 2)
Energy Take 5 Home Theater Speaker (149.99)
Energy ESW C10 Subwoofer (165.99)

Total of 10 speaker in my room. Audiophile? Nahhh

Everything was bought on Newegg with special deals!! Gotta love Newegg!!

Cons: Not really a con, but I wish these speaker came with a horn tweeter. The dome tweeter is good, but I prefer horn tweeter over the dome. =)

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price paid (significant discount from list), bass is tight and reasonably deep for 6.5" drivers. Upper midrange is good. Construction seems reasonably sound for the price. My kids love how these look with the grills off.

Cons: Main gripe: the aluminum dome tweeters on these speakers can be downright HARSH on certain passages, especially at higher volumes. Also, they lack adjustable feet with spikes for carpeted surfaces. On plush carpets this can be a significant issue. Lower midrange seems to be a bit lacking but note that I'm only about half way through the recommended "break-in" period.

Other Thoughts: I bought these at a very deep discount for a secondary audio system and for that, at the price paid, they're fine. These speakers need lots of room, and if you want to play them at high volume, they need lots of power. At anything above -10dB volume, my 100watt/channel Onkyo struggles to drive these. They sound fine at anything below around -15dB. Ironically, if you have a receiver with enough power to drive these at higher volumes, you'll probably want to match them up with better speakers anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speakers

Pros: These are the best speakers I've heard for under $1000 and I auditioned many different types/brands. Clean sound with plenty of bass. Replaced 15 year old Cambridge Audio speakers in my surround sound system and the difference is incredible.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Got these from Newegg on sale for $249 each - unbelievable deal.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid speakers for the price

Pros: - Very good imaging. Tonal (instrument) separation is accurate.
- Heavy
- Ability to be bi-amped
- Bright sound, but no ear-piercing hiss
- Solid vocal reproductions without muddling the midrange
- Decent staging without being overly directional
- Looks good with or without the speaker grill
- Klipsch is the parent company
- Less expensive here at NewEgg than the Energy CF50's in the Best Buy Magnolia store where I did actual testing between the Energy CF50's and the Martin Logan Motion 12's.

Cons: - Difficult to move. Nowhere to grab except by the bass port and cradling the back of the speaker.
- Might have stability problems if placed on soft/plush carpet due to the small feet
- Packaging could be better. Speakers are not entirely enclosed in (styro)foam. UPS punctured a box, just barely missed speaker cabinet. This wouldn't have been as much a concern if speaker was entirely encased in packing material.
- Not much bass, but that's expected in this type of speaker size. Most people now have a discreet subwoofer, so this is really a moot point. If you simply need two speakers for full-range reproduction, then buy a true loudspeaker that has a 10" or larger woofer built into the cabinet.

Other Thoughts: IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT BUYING SPEAKERS, YOU REALLY HAVE TO HEAR THEM FIRST. EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT PREFERENCES AND DISTINCTIONS TO 'WHAT' THEY HEAR.
- Compared to the Martin Logan Motion 12's that NE had on sale for $299. As I read in other forums, the ML Motion 12's focused on midrange and lacked brightness. 100% true when I heard them myself. The ML's sounded flat and boring. The Energy CF50's were staged right next to them and sounded WAY better in terms of brightness and imaging.
- The CF70's sound even better due to a true 3-way crossover design whereas the CF50's are 2.5. The 70's also have slightly larger drivers which enhances bass output a wee bit more, but not much (see the CONS section)
- Performed non-stop 100 hours of "break in" @ 25%-33% power in soundproofed basement. Bass response picked up a little bit as expected.
- Use caution when removing speakers from shipping box. There's no easy place to grab and you might accidentally grab a speaker cone.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Excellence

Pros: Wow, where to start?! Crisp highs, mellow (not muffled) mids, and very good lows. I am still in the "break-in" stage, but these things are amazing.

Cons: I almost got killed when the wife saw them... But then we watched a movie and she forgave.

Other Thoughts: If these are under $300, BUY BUY BUY!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic speaker!

Pros: Amazing speaker for the price! I spent an hour comparing the Energy Cf-50 and Cf-70 to B&W speakers (models CM9,683 and 684) in a controlled environment. To my ears, the CF-50 and CF-70 sounded as good as the best B&W speakers in the room. If I had been blindfolded, I would not have been able to choose one over the other. But the price differential is huge so I did the logical thing - bought the CF-70s on Newegg. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Cons: None so far!
