Polk's Monitor Series has been the gold standard of speakers since the 1970's. This current generation features clear, accurate sound with strong bass and exception aural imaging. Polk made the enclosures out of MDF to be of a uniform density and not resonate. They've also included ¾" thick baffles to help produce clear lifelike sound.
The two 5.25" cones are made from a bi-laminate composite for an optimal balance of weight and rigidity. The small driver delivers a wide open sound and exceptional responsiveness. The 1" tweeter is a fabric/polymer composite the responds swiftly to the high efficiency Neodymium magnet. The crossovers between the drivers use Mylar bypass capacitors to let all of the details in the higher frequencies shine through. They're magnetically shielded so you can sit them on a bookshelf right next to your TV without interference.
No matter how good they sound, they have to look good, too. Their contemporary look compliments today's flat panel televisions and modern decorating styles.
Pros: Great sound after break in, and timbre matched to my CSi3 and R50s. Unreal sonic quality for $119 shipped. Oh, and five eggs to Newegg yet again for shipping these guys in only 2 days for free!
Cons: NO keyhole slot! Cherry laminate cabinets, I guess only the i series come in real wood. They weigh 18 lbs each. Port on back complicates wall installation, along with 13"+ cabinet depth.
Other Thoughts: I subtracted an egg for the product description stating they had keyhole slots (instruction manual states this as well, so not Newegg's fault). But, honestly, I knew better because they have rear-firing ports on the back. Definitely make sure they'll fit where you need them before ordering. While I found quality speaker mounts for them, the size (and weight) of these speakers should definitely be accounted for. I'm now deciding between a very deep floating shelf or speaker stands now, because they simply won't work in my original (and much smaller) surround locations. Accounting for the mount and speaker tilting, bet on these guys standing out almost 2 feet off your wall. While that's a moot point for anyone with a blank back wall in their room, I have a doorway entering the back corner of mine, and I don't want a massive speaker in my face every time I enter the room.

Pros: Beautiful speakers. Fit and finish is gorgeous though simple. Nice and clear sounding. A great price at $149 shipped..... and now they are $129 shipped. Drat!!!
Cons: Very small issue is lack of heavy base. But then again the woofs are only 5.25 so not really a con, but worth mentioning. A sub woofer would be a nice addition if you are using these for your stereo in a room that is anything other than small. I have them in my man cave, 10' x 11', and they are just right.

Pros: Price. For the money, I don't think you could get a nicer sounding pair of bookshelf speakers. They are on the large size for bookshelf speakers, but nothing ridiculous...maybe a bit large to wall mount.
Cons: None really.
Other Thoughts: I ordered these thinking that they would have virtually non-existent bass, but to my surprise, these speakers actually reproduce low frequencies quite well. They won't shake the room, but they have an excellent well balanced sound. I'm now a Polk fan!

Pros: These arrived this afternoon. I unpacked them and immediately connected them to my regular Yamaha audio amplifier and listened to some classical music. Quite frankly I was blown away by the quality of the sound coming out of these speakers. The clarity is phenomenal. Then thinking about the price I felt guilty, it was like stealing them from Newegg...they are that good. In fact I just bought another pair they are so good. Now I will upgrade to 7.1, at this price I could not resist.
Cons: They are big, but you certainly get what you pay for.
Other Thoughts: The cherry finish is great. I was in two minds until I saw them. They look like high quality with a nice matte finish. Buy them now before the secret gets out and they are all gone.

Pros: for the price i paid everything about these speakers is pro...nice looking finnish,sound is very natural and will play very loud with no breakup.am driving them with an hk3480 120 watts per channel bi-wired.they will play louder than most will listen too
Cons: if your realy into earth shaking bass you will need a sub
Other Thoughts: if your looking at sony ssf series or cambridge soundworks model 6 to save because of a budget do yourself a favor and pick up a pair or two!!! of polks monitor 40s at $129.00 per pair for the cherry finnish you can't go wrong...
